After walking another 25 meters, we set up the Safe House artifact. This way we would hide the carriage and proceeded with the attack without worry. Here, Anansi, Ivy and I split up to stealthily kill our targets.
Using neutral magoi, I eliminated the sounds of my steps and breathing as I swiftly approached. My target was a burley Blademaster draped from head to toe in mithril armor. The only opening I could see were the eyes slots of his helmet. Naturally, I plan to make a bloody mess of him.
Using my Earthly knowledge of 50. Cal rifle rounds, I formed a condensed Nether Flarebolt. Although this would be enough to kill the enemy, I wanted more. As I began to rotate the overly condensed spell, I added earth elemental magoi.
As a result, the Nether Flarebolt began to change into a more liquid substance. The final form of the spell was that of an elongated pointed cylinder. Satisfied with the result, I positioned myself at a good vantage point ideal for sniping.
Still evoking neutral magoi in addition to light magoi, I caused my vision to pseudo zoom in until I got clear sightlines towards the desired entry point. Unlike firing a rifle, I don't need to aim nor take wind speeds, elevation, or other interfering factors into consideration. I issued a command to the spell via my evocation.
Immediately the liquified Nether Flarebolt shoot out soundlessly, reaching a speed I originally was not expecting. By the time the spell round reached the Battlemaster, I got to see a small burst of black flames soundlessly explode. The fire burst within the fool's helmet, and later traveled down the rest of their body as they collapsed to the ground.
Still using my newly zoomed-in sight spell, I searched for Anansi. When I saw him, all I could think of was a ninja. That or he was the stealthy child of the grim reaper.
Anansi's aura acted as a complete shroud over him. Unlike common Battlemasters, there are sub-divisions among Battlemasters. In some cases once their aura awakens, they gain special traits and abilities similar to magic. Anansi was one of those warriors as his aura allowed him to move through shadows and other dark places.
One moment, I saw him sink into his own shadow. The next, he slowly rose out of the shadow of his target like a deathly sadistic wet dream Fr*d** K*e***r might have. A wet dream caused by thinking about how to kill fools who went to **m St.
Next, 2 scythes with hefts about a third of a meter long bearing curved blades another third of a meter long appeared in his hands. It didn't take long for him to plunge the blades into his target's chest and drag him into the shadow before he could even scream. Feeling a shiver run up my spine, I looked for Ivy.
Spotting her, I noticed she didn't even try to hide from her target. The Blademaster saw her and started reaching into his pants. I don't know what it is about bandits, but they all seem to like stroking themselves in the open when they see someone they want to rape.
Well, the fool walked up to Ivy and seemed to utter something. Just as he was close enough, Ivy using her scorpion whip, wrapped his neck and head only to decapitate the bloke with a strong pull of the whip. At least the fool die with a hard on, I guess.
Now that those fools are dead, I began moving closer to the camp; stealth killing anyone who would get too close when an eagle cry sounded,
SCREEE!!
The signal for Cavilhaugh to bind the 2 journeyman mages was sound; my que to release the beast. Not sparing a moment, I began reaping the lives of all nearby bandits with my plasmasaber. The more I kill, the closer I came to awakening aura.
Once my side of the camp was void of bandits, I headed straight for the journeymen mages near the sigil portal. While planning our attack, Cavilhaugh inform the group the spell he would use could only provider us about 5 minutes. Afterwards the 2 mages may start raining death on the camp. 5 minutes were more than enough since I was already close to the two mages. As I ran closer, I prepared 2 more liquefied Nether Flarebolt rounds for the bandit mages.
Just as the earth cage broke apart, I fired the first round into the opening which was followed up by an explosion causing the earth cage fragments to fly everywhere. The shockwave even pushed me back a bit, but I took no damage. Waiting for my vision to clear, one of the mages used wind magoi to shoot into the air, allowing me to get a clear shot at him.
I fire the second round and watch his head explode as if a sledgehammer hit a watermelon. With a resounding plop, the flyboy mage hit the ground as the dust finally cleared. What emerged was the other mage who never even got the chance to fight back.
Instead, they exploded into guts and bloody stains in the dirt, poor slob. Turning around, I saw the captured villagers just getting freed by Katya and Anansi, Ivy was helping them open cages, and Cavilhaugh was approaching us with the carriage and guard golems in tow. Seeing everyone was okay I said,
"Good work, everyone! Let's get the townsfolk back to Breilan. Any sick or wounded should go into the carriage until we get to town, and someone can provide medical treatment."
Hearing me, the captured townsfolk sighed in relief as we made our way back to town. After 20 minutes of walking, we all enter Breilan. I wasn't expecting a welcoming party, but I was surprised to see about 15 people waiting for us as we and the 25 captured townsfolk came back to town.
Even more surprising, a priest and healer were among the 15 people waiting. In this world most mages who follow their religion devotedly later become priests specialized in the healing arts, with a few who have high affinity with nature and light moving higher in their respectful religions. In Duxley, the national religion is still the belief in the 4 Elder Spirits and the Creator.
Only the temple dedicated to them also contains another deity named Yanyulia, Goddess of Life and Light. Yanyulia is believed to be an angel who won the love and affection of the Creator. He then allowed the surviving angels to immigrate to Ohmdorra.
Later, it is said she became the bride of the Creator and ascended into Godhood. Of course, only the descendants of angels on Engelheim will be able to say whether or not that's true. Nonetheless, the temples built dedicated to the Creator, the Elder Spirits and Yanyulia are known as the Temple of Light.
Anyhow, I was not expecting a Priest of Light since they rarely leave the temple, and the nearest temple is located in the nation's capital, Leonhardt 10 days journey from Breilan. Seeing one here caused the captives to feel overjoyed as they began to thank the Elder Spirits for their lives. As for me, I was glad trained healers are here since my first aid spell can only keep one alive for at most an hour before they are in dire need of treatment.
As people began to settle in, some came to us thanking us for our timely rescue. Among the captives was the town's mayor, Lucas who was more than happy to speak with us,
"Thank you for saving us in our greatest time of need, strangers! Should you need anything, simply ask and we will do our best to fulfill your needs." He said, and I immediately took him up on his offer.
"You are too kind. There is, however, something we do need. As you may have noticed, we are Adventurers sent by the League regarding the dungeon request your town has issued. We currently would appreciate any information you have regarding the dungeon and any other danger within or around it."
"That all!? Say no more! Come, let me show you all we have regarding the dungeon and the bandits who entered into it within the last 3 weeks!"
Lucas said while guiding us into his home. (Finally! We are getting somewhere.) The last thing I want to do is walk into a hellscape with no information about it. Not to mention, we need to complete this mission with the highest success conditions possible if we want to gain the best rewards the Guild offers.
Anyway, we went into the mayor's house for a little rest and information. The mayor even allowed us to stay in his home until we decided to head towards the dungeon. Taking him up on his offer we plan to stay in Breilan for at least 2 days which will give me time to fix everyone's equipment and device the best plan for clearing the dungeon.
