Mun's parents were just your average, loving couple. They had a son and a cosy home and wouldn't ask for anything more. You could just about expect their reactions when a stranger waltzed into their home and promptly kidnapped their son.
"Mun, could you get the door? I'm making dinner." Mun's mother called from the kitchen.
"Okay."
As Mun swung the door open, a shadow loomed over him, belonging to that of a coat and hat-wearing man. His eyes resembled those of a bored tiger. Unsettling yet dangerous. He donned a small scare near the side of his mouth along with a natural frown.
"This place have a.." He checked a piece of parchment. "Mun in it?"
"Woah."
"I'm assuming so." The man grunted. "Where's your parents?"
"Oh. Um, Mom?" Mun yelled. "There's someone at the door looking for you."
"I'll be just there, invite them in!"
Mun stepped aside as the man walked in and ushered him to the living room.
His mother came out with a tray of tea and set it on the table.
"Hi, I'm his mother, how could I help?"
The man took off his hat, revealing the most threatening man bun a guy could have. Streaks of grey painted over the dark hair tied up as he took out another parchment and a small pair of what seemed to be reading glasses. He caught Mun staring at them and said.
"Can't read the small print."
He fixed his glasses on.
"Okay, here we go. My name is Zawa, I am a teacher from the academy for the unnatural, Ciht. The reason why I'm here today is, Mrs..?" He glanced at Mun's mother.
"Mrs Shie."
"Well Mrs Shie, the reason why I'm here today is" Zawa looked at the parchment. "Your son, Mun Shie, has been scouted for one of the coming freshmen at Ciht academy, the school for the unnatural." Zawa cleared his throat.
"Should any complications arise, teachers are to handle.. ah that's the end of it." He looked up, back at Mun's mother.
"Any questions?"
Mun's mom promptly keeled over. You see, an academy solely for the 'unnatural' would bring about rumours you could probably imagine in your head. The school for freaks, weirdos and anything that isn't 'human'. So, hearing that her sweet baby boy, her introvert of a son, going to such a school?
Mun too wasn't spared from the same thoughts. His heart was racing as if he were speaking to a girl and his thought process was a mess. All he could do was stand there with his mouth agape as his brain slowly translated the words Zawa was saying.
When Mun's mother returned back to reality and noticed Zawa staring at her, she quickly sat up straight and asked, "Why my son? He's nothing like those people, He's perfectly normal!"
Zawa sighed.
"Ma'am, any rumours you've heard of Ciht are bullshit." He fished a cigarette out of his pocket.
"Um, no smoking please." Mun's mother spoke up. Zawa grunted and tossed it back into his pocket.
"The students at Ciht are all perfectly normal... in their behaviour. I assure you that apart from their origin, they behave and act like normal teens."
"Secondly, it appears to the dean, that Mun Shie here, fits all the common qualities of an unnatural."
"No-"
"Finds himself having difficulty talking to other people? Much rather spend time alone? Weird hobbies?"
Mun shut his mouth and looked at his feet.
"Ciht academy isn't only limited to non-humans, you see, anyone can be an unnatural. Furthermore, have ya seen any bigwig with even the slightest amount of normal?"
Zawa continued.
"At Ciht, we aim to discover and cultivate each and every of our student's interests in hopes to 'awaken' them to be professionals in their field. You may not know this, but unnaturals are able to harness the power of Assis a hell lot better than humans, the energy of our world."
"Using Assis, your son would be able to reach places a normal human wouldn't be able to."
Having finished, Zawa crossed his legs.
"So, Mrs Shie, your kid's special, and in a good way. I can ensure your kid's gonna adapt well just fine at Ciht and will probably make a bud or two. There is a written contract on Mun's enrolling into Ciht." He pulled out yet another piece o' parchment and a pen.
Mun's mother took up the contract and eyed it. She looked at Mun, who stared back at her.
"Well?"
"Um...but..." The mumbling catastrophe looked away.
His mother sighed and looked back at Zawa.
"He'll do it."
"HUH?" Mun looked back at his mom.
"You might not be able to say it, but I could hear your heart from across the living room hun. It's a good thing for you too, you're well over an age to be spending every day in your room."
Her words rang true, too. Anticipation was weirdly coursing through his veins, how long had he been this excited? Going to an academy for the unnatural meant THICC ALIEN THI-
Going to an academy meant a left turn to his normal right and he could learn and discover more plants? Total score. Yeah, he was scared, but since when was there any reward without risk?
That sentence would haunt him for the rest of his days.
After the contract was signed, it dissolved into yellow dust and Zawa stood up.
"Well, Mrs Shie, pleasant meeting you. Kid, we gotta go."
"G-go?"
"Yeah, to Ciht." Zawa grinned.
