Chapter 16 - Helplessness

Thale and Elara were dragged back to the pirate ships, their hands bound and their bodies bruised and battered. They were thrown into a cramped and dirty cell, with no hope of escape.

The people in the city who could flee, all ran away. Many of the remaining ones died. The rest were taken as slaves, to be sold later at slave markets and auctions. While cultivation was common, many people had a rudimentary knowledge of it. Their basic understanding simply gave them stronger bodies and longer life spans.

Only when you advance in the path of cultivation, through hardship and battle do you get strong enough to dictate your life.

As they sat there in the darkness, Thale couldn't help but feel a sense of despair wash over him. He had always known that his life as a cultivator would be filled with danger and hardship, but he had never expected to end up in a situation like this. He was injured, and the wound was still bleeding. He felt dizzy and helpless.

He looked over at Elara, his heart heavy with grief and guilt. He had failed to protect her, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he was useless.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I should have been stronger."

Elara reached over and took Thale's hand, her eyes full of kindness and compassion. "It's not your fault," she said softly. "We're in this together. We'll find a way out of here, no matter what it takes."

Thale squeezed Elara's hand, his heart filled with hope and determination. They had to stay strong and stay together if they wanted to survive this ordeal.

As they sat in their cell, they could feel the ship moving beneath them. They were sailing away from the coast and into the open sea, and they couldn't help but feel a sense of despair and hopelessness.

Thale focuses his Qi on his wound to stop the bleeding and increase the healing process. Suddenly, the door to their cell swings open, and a group of pirates burst in. Thale tensed, ready to fight for his life, but he was quickly overpowered and subdued.

Elara was grabbed by the pirates and pulled out of the cell, her screams of protest and outrage drowned out by the raucous laughter of the pirates. Thale watched in horror as Elara was dragged away, his heart heavy with grief and anger.

He wanted to do something to save her, but he was powerless to do anything in his current state. He was injured and locked in the cell, left to wait and worry as the ship sailed further and further away from land.

As the hours passed, Thale could only think of one thing: how to escape and save Elara before it was too late.

Thale lay on the cold, hard floor of the cell, his mind racing with anger and frustration. He was mad at himself for being so powerless, for not being able to protect Elara or escape from the pirates. His emotions riling up his Qi.

He clenched his fists and grounded his teeth, his body trembling with rage and impotence. He had always known that his life as a cultivator would be filled with danger and hardship, but he had never expected to be captured and held prisoner by a group of ruthless pirates.

As the hours passed, Thale's anger and frustration only grew. He had no weapons, no allies, and no way to escape.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. He had to stay strong and focused if he wanted to have any chance of saving Elara and escaping from the pirates.

As he lay in his cell, he could feel his Qi boiling inside him. It was a feeling that he had never experienced before, a burning and surging energy that seemed to be pulsing through his entire being.

He closed his eyes and focused his mind, trying to control and harness this powerful energy. He had always known that he was a skilled cultivator, but he had never felt such strength and potential before.

As he meditated and channelled his Qi, he could feel his body growing stronger and more powerful. He could sense the aura of energy that surrounded him, a force that he could use to his advantage. His wound starting to close up.

He had to use this power wisely and vowed to do whatever it took to escape from the clutches of the pirates.

Elara was sent back to the cell, her face pale and her eyes downcast. Thale could see that something was troubling her.

He reached out and took her hand, his touch gentle and comforting. "It's okay," he said softly. "We'll find a way out of here, no matter what it takes."

Elara didn't respond, and she didn't speak. She simply looked at Thale with her sad and sorrowful eyes, her expression one of despair and hopelessness.

Thale knew that he had to do something to lift her spirits, and he decided to tell her a story. It was a story of adventure and bravery, of a young cultivator who faced down countless dangers and challenges to become a hero.

As Thale told the story, he could see a glimmer of hope and joy in Elara's eyes. She seemed to be lost in the tale, and for a brief moment, she seemed to forget her own pain and suffering.
