Fredrick Stone and John Mills heard footsteps approaching. The guard lighted the lamb before them exposing the presence of Torkwase Ake Agure Kyume, daughter of the commander of Buruku kindred.
She picked a rat running across her view and smashed it to the ground causing it to shrill.
"She's the warrior's daughter. That's what she does to people. Maybe the hour has come for the Lord to bring us home." John Mills whispered into the ear of Fredrick Mills.
"Not yet John, I can see light in her face, but if the Lord has demanded that at this hour we report home from our duty, we are ready to be welcomed by the angels." Fredrick Stone responded looking straight into the eyes of Torkwase.
"Is it time? We are tired of this gross darkness." He asked but Torkwase defamed his thought.
Slowly walking in, she sat down on the floor and brought out a skin of water and some fruits which she handed over to the two who graped them and ate gracefully.
"Thank you! Thank you! But please why are you here?" Fredrick Stone asked shocked by her kind gesture, such that was an abomination to be shown to strangers, especially those of religious opposition in the land.
"I have come because something has troubled my heart for three days since the execution of King Ndeh and his allies.
They were all smiling and calling on the name of the same man you preach before their heads were removed from the rest of their bodies. Please tell me! what did you do to those men?
I could see peace in them like men going to a better place."
Torkwase asked adjusting to the wall and folding her legs beneath.
"Young woman! Please this action would endanger you. Your father is a mighty warrior and head of the military. he would have both of us including you killed if he learns that you are here." John Mills warned.
"My father may do anything. I am a trained soldier who isn't afraid of death. There is something uncommon about you men, that which I want to know. You are supposed to have died by now. I do not know why you are still alive, but maybe your God is who is sustaining you."
It was obvious Torkwase was ready to listen to the white men.
So John Mills brought out his Bible and the two began to open page by page, teaching the lady warrior of the man called Jesus, How God sent him on earth to save mankind, his miracles dead, resurrection and the availability of eternal life for all.
From the teaching, what interested Torkwase most was the phrase; 'Eternal life'
Her people believed that ancestors still dwell among them on Earth but she never heard of a more glorious Kingdom such as the one the white men called - 'Heaven'
Seen that she had much interest about knowing of heaven, the two men spent good time teaching her about heaven from the book of revelation.
I stood watching and was satisfied that heaven was winning a very big heart among the people of Buruku. With her, I had hope that light had come to the kindred.
"White people!" She called out
"What must i do to receive this Jesus into my life?"
"It does not require offering of sacrifices nor anything in particular, go on your knees, open your heart and we shall pray for you. Then he will come into your heart and you will also be in him.
After this, I watched with great emotions as Torkwase received the Lord Jesus Christ into her life and was pronounced born again.
What a joy it was among the two preachers.
"I know my father may get to know of this with time, but I will try as much to keep it away from him until when Jesus will help me to hide it anymore." She said calmly.
Despite not knowing how to read the Bible as it was written in english, the two evangelists vowed to have pages of it translated to her dialect as much as they can.
With This she stood to leave and warned all the guards on the way to keep whatever they had seen to themselves.
She walked from one turn to the other until she finally came to the mouth of the dungeon, and there was Ake Agure Kyume standing with some groups of warriors.
"Where are you coming from daughter?" he asked.
"I'm sorry father ! I went to see the white people. "She said frankly and offered her hand for the arrest.
"Take her!" He ordered and Torkwase was led away
Brought before the king, the judgement was issue but before that, the elders council counseled the king that it was time to execute the white men otherwise they were going to get everyone converted.
This seemed pleasing to Zaki who ordered that the white men be brought before him from the dungeon.
Shortly, the two skinny and disgustingly looking preachers were thrown before the feet of the king.
Convicted already of their crimes for the kindred, the two were ordered to be beheaded in the evening of the same day. But when it was evening and the guards went in to bring them to the execution table, they were ready dead and cold.
How glorious it was that the Lord took them home in peace without allowing them go through the suffering of execution.
Their bodies were taken and thrown into the evil forest while their two Bibles were burned.
"Bring my daughter to me." The king ordered and Torkwase was brought before him.
"My warrior! Is it true of what is said of you?" He asked and Torkwase admitted.
The king was determined in his heard to let her free but as he was about to make his justice, Or u Akombu walked in looking fierce.
"I see with the eyes of an eagle. Your majesty! the heart of the young one is poisoned by the white men. She is now a threat to the kingdom and the kindred. If nothing is done, within a short time, these people's hearts will be turned against you in rebellion." He spoke audaciously causing the king to adjust in his seat.
"Your majesty!" He continued "When a weed grows among the crops, the only solution is to pull it off and lay it upon the stone."
"Are you saying her penalty is death?" Ake Agure Kyume who was standingby asked concerned.
"That's the only solution great warrior of our people, otherwise calamity shall befall the entire kindred and make her vulnerable before the other Kingdoms. This would mean the begining of ruin."
With many words, Or u Akombu convinced the council and the murder of Torkwase was adopted, to which she willfully agreed and confessed her faith in the man Jesus openly.
