YOONGI: Life is tough, and things don't always work out well, but we should be brave and go on with our lives
***************************************************************************************
YEAR: 2010
PLACE: DAEGU, SOUTH KOREA
MIN YOONGI'S POV:
Daegu morning was just like another morning from what I have lived so far.
Even since I can remember, I had only one dream.
To produce good music.
Min Geum Jae, my brother, was the one who supported my dreams. Whether I can remember it was saving my ass from my dad during result day or dad finding out about my music hobby once again.
I became interested in rap after hearing "Ragga Muffin" by Stony Skunk. It was something different that got all my attention. Later after that, the most motivating to my career was Epik High. It was indeed one of the good music I heard at that time. Since then, I have known one thing. I had to make some of my own.
I was 13 when I started writing music and then after I learned about MIDI. That was one heck of an instrument. The dream was big and the way was even harder.
But the question raised before me was how can I even make it there?
My family weren't the ones who were supportive or rich. Thus I had to make my own living somehow.
I worked a part-time job at a recording studio at the age of 17. It was hard for me to manage at my home. Thanks to my Hyung who made it all possible. From then on, I began composing and arranging music, rapping and performing.
After a few months, I was active under the name Gloss as an underground rapper. As part of the hip-hop crew D-Town in 2010, I produced "518-062", a song commemorating the Gwangju Uprising. And the song didn't only just makeup till Daegu.
I thought I was at least one step closer.
TIME SKIPS TO THE PRESENT DAY:
As I was on my way to my final round of the Hit It audition, I was scared inside. I didn't know what exactly to do if I didn't get selected. But I guess that will be my life. We need to put someone on for it.
It didn't take me much longer to reach my destination. I stood before the building named Big Hit. It was probably my second day here. Fortunately, I made it this far, I hope I can make it to the very last.
Before going in I took my phone and dialled a number. the opposite one immediately took the call.
"Hyung!" I sounded a little nervous.
"Yoongia" Somehow Geum Jae's voice has always given me hope. I guess it worked this time too.
"I am gonna go in Hyung," I said finally taking a deep breath.
"I know you're gonna rock it" he replied.
I smiled before turning my focus to the front and I finally step inside the building. To a new journey with a new hope.
*******************************************************************************************
It was almost evening when I was waiting for the final result of our today's round. My legs were shaking continuously due to nervousness. I don't know if I can make it after this. What if I cannot?
Aish!
This is getting all hectic for me. So what if I cannot make it? People would judge me anyway, so I would just do what I have to.
And soon after this, the announcement was made of the winner, which unfortunately was not me. I chuckled sadly looking at the ground before walking away from there.
"Yoongi?"
I stopped when I heard someone calling my name. As I turned back it was none other than the CEO of Big Hit. Bang PD Nim.
"Yes sir". I stopped thinking that, he must be here to give me some consolation. But I do not want that now. But what he said next shocked me.
"I may have some proposals for you, only if you want to hear them."
***********************************************************************************************
I came out of the building with a bit of sorrow and happiness. I couldn't make it to win the Hit it an audition. But on the same day, I got an offer that made me rethink everything.
FLASHBACK TO A FEW MINUTES AGO:
"You are a great rapper Yoongi, that is why I think you might be fitting to the life of an Idol" Bang PD Nim said while looking straight at me.
Idol?
The one who dances and sings?
I am a rapper, I am no dancer. I thought to myself.
"But it involves dancing and I don't think I will be fit for it"
"Why don't you just give it a try? I am making a new idol group that will require good rappers like you. And as far as the dance is concerned, I can assure you that it will be only minimum to what is only required"
I didn't know what to answer, But that was an opportunity I didn't want to just slip away.
After thinking about everything, I finally agree with his condition.
END OF FLASHBACK
The first call I made that day was to none other than Geum Jae. And I still remember how happy he was that day. So was I.
As I stood outside the company, the rays of the sun falls on my smiling face. I raised my hands to guard my face against it, and that is when I noticed something from my childhood which was with me as a part of my bracelet. I don't know if I should call it a dream or something completely irrelevant to the rules of the universe, but that evening this charm has been formed before me out of nowhere. Somehow I liked its dark black colour, which has always been a motivation for my rapping vibe.
"I guess the magic is real now"
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Okay, that was a glimpse of how Suga finally made it to BTS. And that is how we all know now why he had been raising his voice against giant Bang PD nim who promised him there will be a minimum dance.
