Chapter 37 - TEOT 37

(Adrian)

I recalled Aurora hated going to hospitals, so I brought her to my secret penthouse in her unconscious state.

Maya was sitting on the porch in a white doctor's coat when we arrived. She remained my childhood friend, though she was older than me with a year.

But we did the most fun things together as kids.

She'd always advise me and correct me when I was wrong, helped me tackle my maths problems and had family dinner at each other's houses.

Funny enough, she was my neighbor nextdoor. So, we went to the same school. She protected me from fat bullies and always stood by me. I couldn't thank her enough.

Fortunately, she turned out to be our family's doctor.

She jogged down to the car, flinging her auburn hair, packed in a ponytail at her sides.

"Sorry, I kept you waiting," I apologized, opening the backdoor.

"It's fine– Did you get into a fight with someone?" she asked, making me raise a brow.

"No, why?"

She pointed at my head. "You have bandage around your head."

"Oh, that. I was attacked by some men."

"Do you know who's behind it?"

Yeah, I did, but what difference did it make?

Maya knew about my former relationship with Kendall, but she wasn't up-to-date with what was happening in my life, now.

"We'll talk about this, some other time. I'm not in the mood, right now."

"Sorry if I asked too much. Let me help you bring her in. I need to run some test."

"Don't worry. I will carry her myself. Just lock the car and come inside with us," I said, throwing her the keys.

She caught it in the air, then I lifted Aurora in a bridal style.

"Lover boy," she teased, poking my stomach.

My cheeks were getting heated, and I didn't want her to see this side of me.

I turned my face away. "Get out, Maya," I said.

"Awwn, you're blushing," she purred.

"God. I hate you," I said, walking passed her.

"I love you, too, Adrian," she shouted, running to catch up with us.

I inputted the four-digit security code 5-3-8-0 and the elevator door opened, ushering us in.

Ding.

The elevator came to a stop, then the two doors slid opened and we got out. I walked into one of the rooms and laid blondie on the bed.

I supported her head with a pillow and opened the windows for proper ventilation. Then I sat beside her, holding her cold hands.

Maya stood aside, watching us in silence.

I kissed her both hands and turned to Maya, wearing a worried look. "Is she going to be okay? Nothing bad will happen to her, right?"

"Her case seems mild. I promise, she will be fine," she said, but I wasn't relieved yet.

I felt it'd be wrong if I invaded Aurora's privacy. We were divorced, so I didn't have the right.

"I will wait outside. Carry on, please," I said, leaving them both.

It had been fifteen minutes since I stepped out.

Why were they taking long?

The footsteps behind me made me turn around.

"Hey," Maya waved, taking off her coat.

I ran to meet her. "Maya, what's her condition? Is she awake, now? Can I go in to see her?"

"First, congratulations," she smiled, putting her hand out for a shake.

I shook her hand, wondering what good news she had to share. "Thank you… but why?"

"She is three weeks pregnant."

I stopped dead in my tracks. Was this a joke? I hadn't made love to blondie since we got married. How in the world was she pregnant?

The thought of her carrying another man's child in her womb killed me.

But she wouldn't cheat on me, will she?
