Lanes Street. Christa's house.
John choked on his own blood as Bren lifted him with the silver blade still stuck in his spine.
Mac's eyes widened in shock and disbelief as he saw this, he was dumbstruck and couldn't even move.
"Why?!" John spurted out blood.
"We can't let you bring us against a Primordial vampire because of an insane girl." Bren shook his head, then his lips curled as he said, "besides, I've been wanting to have an alpha title to himself ever since I was a boy. Saw this as my chance and I took it."
John gasped and was about to speak again but Bren ended him with a slash to the throat.
Bren flung his limp body away then faced Mac, who was still freaking out at Bren's betrayal. Heavy hairs sprouted on his chest and he bared his fangs at Mac. "I'm the alpha now, and you have to obey me." Bren's eyes turned deep red, and his aura changed tremendously.
Mac found himself bowing to Bren, involuntarily. The force was so strong that he couldn't restrain himself from submitting to the alpha aura.
Hellsong's lips curled upwards in a lopsided grin as he commended. "You made the right choice, big chest."
Hellsong couldn't help but praise The Mutilator in his heart. This was his doing. He brought this plan and it worked, saving Hellsong and the creatures the stress of battling with werewolves.
Bren took his eyes off Mac who's still struggling under the influence of his alpha power, and faced Hellsong. Then he nodded before facing Mac again. He ordered, "We leave now."
Mac was reluctant. His eyes were shimmering with disbelief as he watched Bren walk away from the building
Right under his eyes, Bren howled into the sky in a call, then raced off on all fours.
Soon, the immediate effect became obvious when all the pack members raced after Bren, their submission evident in their eagerness to follow the alpha's howl.
He couldn't believe it, even though it's right before him. It's been years since he and Bren were bitten and turned by John. It changed who they were, for better so much that they both swore to follow John for the rest of their lives.
They've fought shoulder to shoulder and he would have never thought Bren would do such a thing. But now, what he would have never thought of just happened before him.
Mac bowed his head in shame and took a glance at Hellsong, then the house as bitterness filled his eyes. He went on all fours before speeding away too.
Hellsong's eyes remained on him until he was out of sight. He couldn't hide the desire in his eyes as he muttered. "I envy this creatures."
Why won't he? Anyone who loves to be a leader would be envious of werewolves. Because once one becomes an alpha, the betas will have no choice but to bow to him or her. It doesn't matter how the alpha got his powers or whether it's a male or female. The animal instincts make them want to follow their alpha.
However,
Hellsong took his eyes and mind off the werewolves' matter before facing the house's front door.
Bang!
The door fell inwards, on the ground as Hellsong punched it.
He glanced back over his shoulder as he instructed, "go get her."
The hind legged creatures rushed forward, remaining just two and the Mutilator behind Hellsong.
Crashes and thrashings could be heard in the white painted interiors of the house as the creature rashly thumped around the building in search of Christa.
Her father was out and at the hospital, he got an emergency call and he had to leave his daughter to have a good night's sleep.
But she can't possibly have that now that her life is sought.
Moments later, the screaming of a female could be heard from upstairs.
Hellsong smiled as he watched Christa scream as the creatures dragged her towards him.
"Don't worry, sweetheart. You'll be fine," The Mutilator grinned.
But a slap from Hellsong sent Christa unconscious. The Mutilator's eyes widened under his black spectacles but a glare from Hellsong made him look away.
"We leave now."
Hellsong turned to lead them out of the door but he stopped when he saw who was standing by the entrance, obstructing the way.
"You are," he paused, with a glare, "So not going anywhere, Hellsong!" Kylian growled and his eyes turned crimson.
He charged at Hellsong and his armies.
*********
Adrian turns to the wizard. "Have you gotten what I need?"
"Yes. But I would advise you to stay and let the vampire go," the wizard said with a warning gaze.
"And why would you say that?" Adrian frowned hard, puzzled.
The wizard hesitated, then said, "Because your father wouldn't want this."
Adrian exchanged a glance with Bellerin. He grinned as he asked. "Do you think so, brother?"
"It doesn't matter if I think so though. You'll still do what you wanted in the first place." Bellerin smiled bitterly.
Adrian approached Bellerin, with a humourless grin. "You know, when you were born, no one could carry you because you wouldn't let them. A slight touch or an attempt to hold you and you would burst into a deafening cry that aches the ear of even my father."
He approached and stopped a few inches from Bellerin as he continued, "I was coming back from the woods after feeding when I got the news 'The one and only pregnant woman in our coven has given birth. She lost her life to it and her newly born son is not letting anyone touch him'." Adrian placed his hand on Bellerin's shoulder and gazed into his eyes which were beginning to glisten with tears. He never knew his mother and what Adrian is saying only brought back the pain he feels every time he thought about her.
"I got there and I saw you. I saw an orphaned boy. Just like me. I felt different. The love and affection came along with the pity I felt for the baby you, Bellerin. I looked you in the eye and your little eyes looked mine too. Then I held you in my hands and hugged you. You didn't cry or shout. You went silent and that day, Caius gave me the order to take care of you and keep you safe. And today, here you're, a hundred years old vampire."
The tears that has been gathering behind Bellerin's eyes slid down. Sober clothed his existence and he closed his eyes.
Adrian's eyes glistened too as he continued again. "I never counted you as just any member of our coven. I see you as my brother, as my only friend. The friend I fought several hunters for in the Market Street. The brother I fought an alpha werewolf for, just to get him to safety. The brother I jumped into a dry and deep well for, when he was lost. That's what I see as."
"So tell me, Bellerin, what do you wish for me? happiness of having my mate or the sorrow and pain of losing her to another vampire?"
Bellerin exhaled and opened his eyes. He fixated it on Adrian's black eyes. Then he replied, "I want happiness for you, Adrian."
Adrian curled the side of his lips then patted Bellerin's shoulder as he turned away from him to face the wizard.
"Now tell me, where is he?"
The wizard took his gaze away from Adrian's, he had a bitter gaze on he gazed at the empty space. "He's in front of a house. A blue sedan is parked at the front. I could see a lady gazing out of the window down at the blue sedan as it drove off. The lady has reddish brown hair."
"Reddish brown hair?" Adrian frowned as he ruminated on it.
"Auburn hair. Does it ring a bell?" Bellerin asked.
Adrian's eyes trembled with shock. Then he gritted as he turned to Bellerin. "He's there."
Bellerin frowned in confusion as he asked. "Who's there?"
"The vampire. He's at the girl's house." Adrian's eyes flashed with anger as he headed for the door.
"Where are you going now?!" Bellerin asked with wide eyes. What he feared is finally here; Adrian killing a member of the coven because of a human mate.
Adrian paused by the door and looked over his shoulder, back at Bellerin. "I'm going to kill him."
With a gale of wind, Adrian sped off.
Bellerin sucked in his breath. His hands clenched beside him as he glanced at the two hefty vampire leaning on the wall, the vampire Caius told to follow him.
"We need to follow him. We must stop him from killing that vampire." His eyes shone with resolve as he said, "Even if we have to fight him."
Bellerin turned to the wizard and nodded in greeting to him. The wizard nodded back with a complex emotion, then retreated into his room.
Bellerin sighed and advanced to the door while the two vampires flanked him.
He knows that Adrian won't stop. Adrian doesn't stop when he sets his mind on something.
Bellerin clenched his teeths as he headed out of the door of the wizard's house.
'Even if it meant fighting you, I'll stop you, Adrian'
