Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 The protectors.

Kylian trotted into the Night Hills. The dark and eerie gales that whistled through their paths blew around him. Trees, humongous ones with foliages hunkered down, towered above him like a thousand giants, making him look like an ant in the midst of Titans.

Howls sounded all around him. Silent throaty growls as blurry figures flashed all around him.

This is the wolves territory in the Night Hills and no vampire treads there. Because the wolves and the vampires have no relationship. Even in fantasy novels and movies, they are portrayed as natural enemies. It isn't much different from that too.

But despite this, Kylian's face, protruding all over with dark veins, was as calm as a millpond as he ventured deeper into the midst of the silent growls that lurked the shadows.

"Stop, vampire!" A deep voice thundered.

He didn't stop. He continued his advance.

Hulking figures flashed towards him. His cloak billowed and he was no longer in sight.

The growls became more and more coherent. More violent and warning.

The leaves around rustled. The air tensed as several hulking figures revealed themselves, their sparkling eyes now more visible in the dark of the night.

"What do you want, vampire?"

"Now we're talking." Kylian's figure appeared. Lethally calm. His void dark eyes that didn't seem to exist if one looked at it under the darkness of the night gazed around at the hulking figures on hind legs surrounding him.

Werewolves.

He lowered his hood. "I'm here to have a talk with you, John."

"What is it?" A naked human figure with heavy beards emerged from behind the hulking wolves around. His eyes glinted when he saw Kylian. "Hmph, it's you, Kylian."

Kylian's dark eyes settled on him. A humorless smile etched his lips.

"How have you been?"

"I heard about your escapades. I can see Caius hasn't pulled off your tongue yet." The wolves laughed as John joked.

"Here you're, John, under the shadows of Night Hills when a human is in danger."

"A human. In danger?"

"Oh. I'm being sarcastic. John, you wolves called us flesh eaters, blood suckers, demons, devils, and all sorts of names yet here you're swinging your butt around the trees with your fellow men when several humans are being stripped of their organs."

"Watch your mouth vampire." A werewolf growled and the leaves around shook heavily as the growl echoed.

"Perhaps, nothing is resistant to change after all. Including creatures that claimed to be the protectors of humans." Kylian looked skyward as he said. "The escapades you said I had was for a human. I don't think am an hypocrite now that I can't protect her anymore. Even though the beasts aren't ready to let her live, but I've done my best anyway."

John seemed to fall into a contemplation. His face rippled in defeat.

"Where is the human?"

"Lanes street. The 34th Ave. The female daughter of the Dr. Some beasts will be coming for her tonight, so you better move your ass."

The werewolves around growled in response. Their leaders' silence vexed them.

But the surprise that they felt was immense when they heard their leader's response.

"We shall protect her."

"That's a hell of promise, John."

"I give my word."

The humorless smile came back on Kylian's lip as his figure blurred from sight.

The Mutilator sipped a cup of latte as he read the newspaper in his grip. His feets were propped on his desk which was dusty as hell as a beautiful lady massaged his toes.

Eerie winds blew in through his bleak window along with the scent of the night in the suburbs and shook his newspaper terribly.

The lady massaging his legs shook like someone seeing a ghost and the Mutilator hissed as he lowered the newpapers.

"Ain't ya cool with going home with your organs today?" His eyes glared behind the round spectacles.

The lady shivered. Her eyes gazed down. She wouldn't dare look into the round spectacled eyes of the man before her.

"Uh?!"

She jerked as the Mutilator barked.

Before she knew it, she broke into tears. Her head shook like that of a desperate agama lizard. Her eyes glinted the tears that hung on her eyelids.

Bang!

All of a sudden, his office door blasted open.

The Mutilator glared and sprang to his feet with his blaster pointed towards the door. "Don't ya freaks know how to knock again?!"

The hind legged creature growled and shifted back a little.

"Icht's.... Kserious." The creature said, his grumpy voice squeezing up what he's saying.

The Mutilator closed his eyes and sighed through his nose. "Talk."

"Hellsong is back. Toro is back too."

The Mutilator flashed open his eyes. "Where are they?" His eyes blazed with confusion. "They should come in."

The beast fidgeted his hairy fingers, his bizarre eyes glinting strangely as he pointed his sharp claws outside the door. "They can't come in, you should see for yourself."

The Mutilator literally flew through the stairs down to his basement. His heart banging and his shirt getting more and more drenched with his sweat.

The large iron door that sealed the basement that was below street level flung open with a bang as he kicked it.

Rancid scents greeted him. Decayed organs hung around. Skeletons splayed over the concrete floors of the dark basement.

But he didn't even flinch. This is where the main deal goes down, so he's used to it.

Around the corners, creatures with hind legs loomed but none could come out to face the boiling Mutilator.

He stopped by the center of the basement. He saw nothing. He looked around.

"Won't ya beasts come out to tell me what happened?! Uh?!" His voice lifted in desperation.

No one came out.

The Mutilator turned around, his movement, his thinking, his breathing becoming more frantic. But no one came out.

"Won't ya guys come out?!!!!!"

A grunt behind him made him spiraled.

A pair of blue eyes stared at him.

"Hellsong?" The Mutilator was speechless. His eyes wandered across the body of the supernatural that towered above him before but is now like a crumpled land.

Hellsong coughed. A mouthful of blood followed. The Mutilator's eyes widened behind his round spectacles.

"What happened?" His voice was low this time. The slight trembling in it couldn't be missed by the creature before him.

He knew. The Mutilator knew that if this mission didn't go well, that's the end of him.

"The son of a bitch. I was about to kill him when he appeared." Hellsong coughed again.

"Who?"

"Aro."

The Mutilator staggered as he felt a bang in his head. It's a migraine.

Aro?!

'What does he want this now?'

"Not now, old man. Not now." He didn't notice but he was crying.

"And the bloodline?" The Mutilator's eyes flashed with hope.

"She's guarded by John The Wolf and his pack. Toro couldn't reach her streets talkless of having her."

"Why. The. Hell. Is. All. This. Happening?!!!!!" The Mutilator yelled as he thumped his right feet while his hands flayed in the air. Frustration and rage was portrayed on his features as he went on shouting out his fears.

BANG!

A pressure so high that it made everyone in the hall fall on their knees suddenly emanated.

The hind legged creatures bowed their bat like heads as they all chorused. "Lord."

The Mutilator's desperation suddenly turns to perplexity. He felt lost. He felt like his life has ended.

"My Lord." His voice was like that of a half dead person as he went on his knees.
