Chapter 12 - Hide

I crouched low, trying to make myself as small as possible as I sat on the roof, looking down at the street below. I was too high for the dog to reach me here, but I still felt a twinge of fear every time I heard its barks echoing through the empty streets. I had to stay hidden and hope that it would lose interest and move on.

I tried to calm my racing heart and think about my next move. I couldn't stay up here forever, but I also couldn't risk going back down to the streets. I needed to find a way to escape the dog's watchful eye, but I wasn't sure how.

I looked around the roof, searching for any way down that wouldn't put me in direct view of the dog. But all I could see was the endless stretch of flat rooftop, with no way to escape. I was trapped, and I was running out of options.

I took a deep breath and tried to focus, to think of a plan. I was a clever cat, I had survived this long on my own. I couldn't let the dog defeat me now.

As I perch on the roof of the old church, I can hear the distant barking of the dog below. My heart races as I remember our encounter inside the church. I have to be extra careful now, in case the dog has picked up my scent.

I look around, trying to get a better sense of my surroundings. The church is large and sprawling, with many nooks and crannies that could be hiding someone who left the mark on the map. But with the dog barking so loudly, I can't get a good read on my surroundings. It's likely that the person I'm searching for is hiding, keeping quiet and still so as not to attract the attention of the dog.

Maybe they are even the owner of this dog?

I consider this possibility as I hide on the roof, trying to escape the barking dog below. The thought that the person I am searching for could be the owner of this aggressive animal makes my fur stand on end. I've never encountered a dog this large, it must be hunting something more than just small rodents. I shiver at the thought of what it could be. If the person who left the clue was the owner, they must be hiding now that the dog is barking so loudly. I watch and listen carefully, trying to figure out my next move.

I take a deep breath and try to steady myself. I know that I need to be brave if I want to find any answers. But with the dog barking, it feels like my efforts might be in vain. I'll have to find another way to sneak around and look for clues. But for now, I need to stay hidden, keep my wits about me, and wait for an opportunity to arise.

The sound of the dog prowling and growling is getting fainter and fainter until it was gone. I assumed that it finally lost interest in me and left. This was a relief as I didn't have to worry about that danger anymore.

I crouched low on the roof of the old church, my eyes scanning the surrounding area for any signs of danger. The sun was slowly setting, casting long shadows across the deserted town. I realized I needed to find a place to spend the night, and quickly.

I tensed as I heard a rustling sound nearby. My instincts told me it was time to move, to find a safer place to hide. I jumped down from the roof, landing softly on the ground. My senses were on high alert as I made my way through the abandoned streets, searching for a place to rest.

As I prowled through the shadows, I considered my options. I needed to find shelter for the night, somewhere that offered protection from the elements and any potential dangers lurking in the dark. Where no dog can get to me. I also needed to find some birds or birds nest to hunt, to satiate my hunger.

My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden noise. I froze, my eyes wide as I tried to identify the source. It was coming from the other side of a nearby building, and it sounded like footsteps. I took a deep breath, my heart racing as I prepared to defend myself if necessary.

I carefully approached the source of the noise, keeping my body low to the ground and my senses on high alert. As I rounded the corner, I saw a figure standing in the distance, its back turned to me. I frowned, wondering who it could be. Was it the person who left the clue I was looking for? Or was it something else entirely?

I inched closer, trying to get a better look. As I got closer, I realized it was a man, and he was holding a leash attached to the dog I had encountered earlier. My heart sank as I realized that this man was probably the owner of the dog. I was about to turn and run when the man suddenly spun around, his gaze locking onto mine.
