Chapter 163 - Fate

'Wait, isn't Maat an Egyptian goddess? What's happening?' Hunter asked.

[ Allow me to tell you the hierarchy of power in this world. First, The Immovable Force, The One Above All is above everyone as he is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient.

Then Chaos.

Then the cosmic beings like Infinity, the Celestial Force, Order, and Entropy.

The Elder Gods are a tier below the cosmic entities. He Who Sleeps, Set, Gaia, and Maat who went by the name Rhaetirys are a few names from that list.

Beneath the Elder Gods, you'll find the primordial deities like Nyx and Aether.

Next are the skyfathers and their respective pantheons. However, the ancient Egyptian pantheon triumphs over all other gods while the Greek gods pantheon triumphs over the Norse gods, and so on.

Some gods are the same people who have taken a different name for different regions. Zeus, for example, was known as Jupiter in Rome. ]

'What about HIM, the god-eater? Where does he fall in this hierarchy?'

[HIM was born from the tears of Gaia and the spirit of Order and he killed many of the Elder Gods. However, he did not confront Set, He Who Sleeps, and Maphrita when the three gods were together. I'll place him below the cosmic entities but slightly above the Elder Gods. The reality is, a hierarchy of power is never accurate as our world is ever growing and ever-expanding and the beings that live in it are constantly evolving. The hierarchy of power is merely mentioned for the sake of reference. The Dark Majesty overpowered Set on several occasions, that doesn't place the Demons above the Elder Gods.]

'I see ...'

[ Praes, a mortal farmer in Thrace, hated the gods more than anything. He blamed them for the death of his wife and eight children and wanted to make them pay for their crimes.

After Apollo, there were other gods who got the same vision, the Elder God, Gaia, was one of them.

Gaia despised Zeus. She had created the Giants some years ago to wage war against the Olympians and free the Titans.

Gaia and Zeus's relationship wasn't always strained. Before Gigantomachia, Gaia helped Zeus usurp his father, Cronus's throne as she hated Cronus for swallowing the Olympians.

Before that, she aided Cronus against his father Uranus as the latter prosecuted the Titans.

Despite Gaia masterminding the Titanomachy, Gaia loved all her descendants the same and hoped Zeus would be the one to put an end to her descendants being prosecuted or trapped somewhere.

She was wrong as Zeus would go on to win the Titanomachy and lock his father just like the Titan did to his father before him.

Gaia created the Giants to overthrow the Olympians but her plot failed horribly when the gods of Olympus descended to Earth to fight the Giants and Zeus hurled bolts and bolts of lightning on the stacks of Giants that formed to reach Olympus.

Gaia now foresaw the demons marching through the green grass of earth and the gods lying defeated on the ground. She saw a chance to remove unjust Zeus and his family and free the Titans who had been locked away, dark and far.

Gaia searched for a while and chose Praes as her hero, the one who would bring the demons to Nym'Roal for her.

Praes hatred for the gods meant he could easily be persuaded to act against them and Gaia persuaded him to act against them. With very minimum effort, the Elder God sent to Praes, in a dream, how many of the Olympians would die if the demons made it to Nym'Roal.

Praes then searched for ways to make that come to pass and Gaia helped him, guiding him by instilling in him whispers and images of what exactly he needed to do.

What he needed to find.

The Eye of Arastoso.

A powerful magical talisman created by Arastoso, the first known human sorcerer.

The artifact was commonly possessed by the Supreme Sorcerer of Nym'Roal, a role that once pertained to Arastoso himself.

Clato was the last supreme sorcerer of the realm. When his daughter suddenly disappeared, he passed the talisman to Orgo, the sea dragon so that whoever defeated the dragon may become the new supreme sorcerer.

Gaia knew this and she knew the eye could be used to open a portal so she told Praes of it in a dream. So the farmer took off to meet and defeat the sea dragon. During his journey, Gaia made sure to have him run into several weapons and armor that he would need to defeat Orgo.

After being told of a god-killer, Ares gave his word to his mother to find and kill whoever was responsible.

In Hel, Luella waited and waited for her mother Nemesis to return but when she didn't, she would travel from Grau Hel to meet with her father the Dark Majesty and after reuniting, she would tell him of the missing goddess.

To find his missing wife, the Dark Majesty would leave Hel and go to find fair Nemesis, walking into Nym'Roal despite the veil that covered the realm from other realms, such is the power of the Dark Majesty.

In his search for the god-killer, Ares meets the Dark King and erroneously assumes him to be Triton's murderer. And so the Greek god of war would challenge mighty Horatius in the name of Justice.

Just like when Triton would go up against Set and fails, Ares would suffer the same fate, beaten so badly that his mother hears his cries from Olympus and rushes down to help him.

Noting the stranger's reluctance to kill Ares, Hera would suspect the being in front of her was not the same person who murdered Triton and when she asks him, he would confirm her suspicion.

"I am Horatius, ruler of Hel. I've come in search of my wife, Invidia, and my child, Cora."

So Hera would trade her son's life for information regarding the goddess of divine retribution, pointing the Dark Majesty to the Temple of Apollo.

Hera wasn't the only goddess who heard Ares's defeat at the hands of the Dark Majesty. Demeter was another.

The Olympian would lurk in the shadows and tail Hera to see who overpowered Ares. Learning who he was as he introduced himself to Hera, Demeter would travel to the Temple to meet with the Dark Majesty.

He would repeat the same introduction to Olympian who would dismiss him with her words.

"I know who you are and why you came to Nym'Roal."

"You know where Invidia is? Tell me and I'll leave immediately."

"It's not going to be that easy. You filthy demons love to make a deal right? I'll only tell you where the Titaness is if you sign a contract with me."

And so the Dark Majesty seized her by the throat. "I should tear you flesh from bones and extract the information from your skull," he threatened.

Demeter smiles. "Try it and you'll never see your precious Invidia again. The moment I die, so does she."

So the contract was signed, bonded to a very powerful vase. Once the Dark Majesty takes his wife, he'd return to Hel and never set foot in Nym'Roal again. The Dark Majesty was banned from touching the powerful vase as if it broke, so would the contract. Additionally, if the goddess dies, so would the Dark Majesty. He is also to never speak of the deal to anyone else. The Dark Majesty would, in return, get the location of his wife.

Since the Dark Majesty was the ruler of Hel at the time, the contract would extend to every other demon as well.

The Dark Majesty would begin his journey to the location, and on his way, he would hear the voice of an unexpected goddess: Maat. "It saddens me what comes next, it really does," she said to herself, thinking the Demon couldn't see her.

The Dark Majesty would smile at the Egyptian goddess. "Such is fate, Maat. Try as we might, we can't run from it, all we can do is embrace it."

Maat froze, even if she thought the Demon would not see her, his response was what surprised her more. "You know what comes next?"

The Dark Majesty smiled once more.

Upon reaching the cave Demeter pointed him to, the Dark Majesty found a fatally injured Nemesis on the ground. He moved towards her and held her hands tight in his.

Nemesis smiled as her eyes met the eyes of her spouse. She let out a deep breath before closing her eyes and succumbing to her injuries.

The Dark Majesty looked around and saw no sign of his daughter, Cora, or Letu, the pure demon his wife had taken in.

As per his contract with Demeter, The Dark Majesty would take his wife's corpse and return to Hel.

Elsewhere, Praes would find and defeat Orgo, the sea dragon but just as he did so, Apollo would appear in front of him.

Apollo had seen in a vision that the demons wouldn't be able to make it to Nym'Roal without a human aiding them so he sought for the man that would betray the gods.

Praes would swiftly hide the Eye and go up against the god, putting up a good fight but coming up short as Apollo defeated and killed the former farmer. ]

• United Republics.

"Thanks for agreeing with me, Dr. Salvador," Kieran McIntyre, the Director of the UR Transnational Intelligence said.

"You're lucky I am after your Federation violated the Meridional Accord," said Skylar, the director of Alpha Sector.

"As I mentioned in my letter on behalf of the Supreme Leader of the United Republics to the Bureau, West Lionwell was the action of a few that in no way represents the intention of the Supreme Leader. Everyone who was involved has now been dismissed and is now awaiting trial. Our meeting today is related to that."

How?" Skylar queried.

"While we were transporting the person we believe was responsible for blocking the Bureau from accessing the West Lionwell store, there was an attack," said Kieran. "One of the attackers used a device I have never seen or heard of before."

"Camera footage?"

"None were functional at the time. It was a cubical object that released some sort of purple energy. There was no sound or fire, just ... Destruction."

Skylar pondered for a second or two. "Based on what you've described, it seems it released a mystical energy. No way a non-mystic survives that."

"They didn't," said the blonde-haired man. "... Only a finger of the deceased remained," the Transnational Intelligence director paused. "It felt manipulated ... the attack. Calculated. Security cameras were taken care of, the road was blocked, they were ready for us ...." Kieran looked up at Skylar. "Does the word neogenesis mean anything to you?"

"Biologically?"

"Huh. I guess I was wrong."

"Wrong about what?"

"Vit– the person that impersonated the supreme leader and blocked your agency and the Bureau at West Lionwell left an empty file with nothing but the word 'neogenesis', she also said something about this being our War of Heaven and Hell so I'd assume the neogenesis stuff had to do with mystics."

"There was something similar to neogenesis in the War of Heaven and Hell, it was basically day one of the war."

"What was it?" Kieran asked.

"Xenogenesis."
