Chapter 1
Lucian Eros Ambrose.
The rectangular golden nameplate showed the owner of the magahomy brown desk where it was placed.
The names gave chills to people when heard or voiced out. The names were spoken by a few without the feeling of being swallowed by the ominous feeling. The names fit the person who owned them. His voice and his physique were enough to make people tremble with fear.
The flipping of pages resonated around the silent room as the man behind the desk read what was on the pages before turning to his laptop and typing furiously. His brows were perfectly curved as his Harry Potter glasses dangled on his nose while his nose was scrunched, clearly showing his frustration.
He groaned loudly, slamming his palm on the desk annoyingly as he tugged his tie freeing his neck, feeling angsty. Every part of his body begged him to rest; visible black bags were under his eyes as his brown eyes dimmed from tiredness.
He cracked his knuckles and sighed before taking the cup beside his desk, taking a sip of the black coffee, and then spat it out.
"Fuck!" he growled, annoyed, throwing the cup on the nearest wall.
"Get me another coffee!" his voice boomed out. Frustration and tiredness could be heard in his voice. He stood up from his seat and stretched his numbed muscles, flexing his arms as he walked to the glass window, staring out of his office. He removed his suit and hung it before unbuttoning two buttons of his shirt angrily and pinched the bridge of his nose.
How he wished he could be free from all these, but he was atoning for his past mistakes.
He has many responsibilities weighing him down, his shoulders hunched, tensed from everything. Many things were happening… mysteries upon mysteries were making his head spin. After getting happy to find a clue, it always led to dead ends.
Another dull day again; the secretary outside flinched at her boss' voice as she scrambled from her cubicle to bring his coffee.
"Jingle bell, jingle bell," a voice sang joyfully, smiling and dancing as the briefcase moved up and down.
"Keep it down!" the secretary, whose tagged ID revealed - Alisha scolded.
The culprit pouted his lips, looking at his fingers, "What's stuck in your pants, Lishy?" the man smiled, showing his perfect teeth.
"The angry red bull has been released, and it needs a coffee to calm it down," she whispered jokingly.
"Oh," he bit his lips.
"What did you have for him?" Alisha asked.
"The same old problem…" the sound of something breaking shut him up as he looked at Alisha.
"This is getting worse," she muttered, walking past him before whipping her head back,"... And Leo, be careful" she went away.
The man named Leo stood at the front of the door, staring at it, contemplating whether to enter or not before inhaling and opening the door.
RIP, my poor soul, he mumbled.
Leo tip-toed in, checking the damages on the tiled floor as his reflex nerve picked an oncoming thrown object and dodged it. He breathed out, staring at the pen, before chuckling humorlessly, then began to sob.
"Where the fuck were you!" the man growled as Leo straightened himself and bowed, craning his neck as a sign of submission.
The full moon was near. Every wolf would be on edge, especially the unmated ones.
"Campus," Leo responded to see the man humming in response, waiting for him to continue. "the number of missing students is increasing…." Leo paused, peeking at his boss for any reaction, "Twenty students went missing last night… we found eight bodies, but the remaining are still not found yet" he finished, looking at the ground when he got no response from his boss, he looked up to see his boss head down before laughing out like a maniac.
"Hahaha," His voice boomed as Leo laughed awkwardly after him, stepping back.
The man scoffed, and he closed his eyes. He has been working non-stop for the past forty-eight hours with no sleep and food, trying to finish all the paperwork, but it kept piling up.
Another work again! he groaned. He might be a lycan, yet his body and mind also crave human things like sleep, food, and fun, but it is impossible now.
He clenched and unclenched his fist in anger, "So..?" as he ran his hand through his hair frenziedly.
"The government…"
"What happened to the government again?!"
Many people didn't know the werewolves. Just a few handy people knew about them. Werewolves were a myth, a superstition to humans, but it was beyond human thinking.
The werewolves were secret agents that helped the government protect people from the virus - vampirism.
The government supported them in fighting the virus, but it spread like wildfire. Young people- college students kept missing and murdered - dead bodies piled up like dirt.
Vampires and wolves were mortal enemies from the onset, the crazy thirst of vampires never ceased to end, and the instinct to protect humans from the wolves never stopped.
Vampires only operated at night. That was why they were called owls, but some vampires could walk under the scorching sunlight like true pure-blooded without a trace of shame, while wolves were suitable to walk during the day and patrol at night.
"The vampires are building their army..." Leo started, only to cringe.
"As if," his boss smirked.
"Mr Eric suggested it at today's meeting…." Eric was the representative of the humans to the wolves, "... To protect the students, school, and people…" Leo gulped.
"Okay," he mumbled, urging Leo to continue.
"We should increase our people around there because the campus is the main target of the vampires," Leo stated, his eyes darting around for where to escape.
"Fuck..." he was interrupted. It has been a long time since he heard his Lycan voice. The animalistic and primal side of him talked to him for the first time after he was engaged to his fiance. His Lycan shut him out. His Lycan still believed there was hope for them, they would have a mate out there, but he had given up. He didn't want a force of hope.
"Hi human," Eros - his Lycan muttered.
"Hi Eros," he responded.
"I'm having a feeling about this", Eros answered and drifted off to silence mode.
"I'm going to check the campus to see whether I can find any clue," Lucian mumbled, taking his coat to have another lap around.
