Chapter 1 - The Mark of a New Beginning

"Unknown continent year 1750."

THE BUSTLING street of the Kingdom of Eolas was nothing new. Along with it were the gossips relating to the Royal Family. It has become normal for the people of Eolas to curse and criticize those who rule Eolas. For them, the Royal Family was nothing but fools.

The current King was a young man who was pressured to do politics and regain the trust of the Eloian people in the Royal Family. The princess, who is next in line to the throne, is the backbone of the kingdom. She's in charge of the Knight Order. The prince, who is the youngest of the three, on the other hand, is a free man who has great integrity and fights for what is right.

Unbeknownst to other people, these three are very close to each other. A family with a genuine heart.

"Brother." The third prince greeted as he entered the living room. "How's the day of being a king?"

The King only sighed as he shook his head. "Not much. But as we all know, our expenses are going downhill and I cannot think of any possible way to elevate it."

"Sorry but I don't think we can do that." The Princess butted in as she sat on the sofa. "The Kingdom of Ladron has started to make a move."

"Where..." The King sighed as he closed his eyes, leaning on the backrest of his seat. "Where was that kingdom again?"

"On the northwest from our kingdom. Our soldiers are suffering from food depletion. We may have an advantage with manpower but our problem is lack of resources."

Knock. Knock.

The gloomy atmosphere was interrupted when a knock on the door was heard.

"Good Evening, Your Majesty, Your Royal Highnesses. A knight has come to report to you, Princess." The butler, with a very neat and strict posture, said.

"Let him in." Upon the approval, the butler opened the door and let the knight enter before leaving. The knight on the other hand immediately bowed his head as he put his fist on his chest.

"Good Evening, Your Majesty, Your Royal Highnesses. Princess, I am here to give a report about the current situation."

"You may speak." Upon approval, the knight stood straight.

"The villagers are on a riot. It is currently giving the soldiers a hard time to stick to the plan, Your Highness."

"Hold on a second. Sister, what plan did you implement?" The King who just heard that there was already a plan was baffled. The Prince on the other hand felt that he is no longer needed so he stealthily excused himself.

"There are reports that the Kingdom of Ladron has started to march with 1,000 soldiers. We have 2,000 men that will fight for the war. I ordered 1,000 men on the village near the capital and the fields where the enemies are expected to come. And the other thousand will be on guard while on standby for an attack." The Princess answered which made the King more confused.

"But aren't we both an advantage and disadvantage? As you said, we're lacking resources but we have enough soldiers to fight. Won't it be better to have all the soldiers in one place?"

"Exactly. We also have a disadvantage regarding the resources that we have in the capital. We need to continuously provide food for our citizens. The village can provide half of their resources to the soldiers."

"That's also true."

Hours went on with their serious talk they even continued their talk inside the King's bedroom. The Prince who heard that his siblings were in the room went and checked on them.

"May I come in?" He asked as he knocked on the door he opened. The King who noticed this smiled as he nodded. The moment the Prince entered his brother's bedroom, he sighed.

"Will the both of you stop?"

"Eh?" Both the King and the Princess darted their attention to their younger brother who is standing with his head down and hands formed into a fist.

"I know that all of these are for the sake of Eolas and for our citizens. But why do we need to be in this place? The people pressured us to rule the kingdom and yet they're cursing us. They're putting the blame on us for what Father and Mother did." He said in a stifled voice. Because of this, the Princess couldn't help but understand what her brother said. And the King noticed this.

"Sigh. Come sit with us brother." The King signaled the Prince to sit beside him on the floor. "Let me tell you this, our parents are not fools. If they are, then did father kill innocent people for his own gain? Did they maltreat us? Did they use their power to abuse people?"

The two shook their head which made the King smile. "Right? They treat us like loving parents do to their children. They cared for us, cheered us up during hard times, and loved us until their last breath."

"Then what about the things that they planned? Those plans went in vain and as a result, we are the ones suffering in this place." The Princess replied.

"Sister, they are the emotions of the kingdom. When the kingdom suffers, they cry. When the kingdom is victorious, they celebrate. They treated the kingdom like how they treat us."

Because of what the King said, the Princess and the Prince couldn't help but cry.

"I miss them."

The three of them hugged each other, comforting one another.

"Always remember that we are always and will be a family." The King whispered.

They never knew that that very night will be the start of the change in the balance of the world. That was the night when the first step to uncovering the secrets of the Unknown continent started.
