Chapter 101 - THE FAULTY LADDER

Seated in the back seat of a cab, Kiara was fidgeting continuously. She was literally driving the car in her mind, for sometimes she would stretch her leg as if pressing hard on the accelerator, and when any car appeared as if it was going to cut ahead in front of them, Kiara screamed. It was not the cab driver who complained; it was Kiara herself. "Bad driving! You're encroaching into our lane!" she said.

"Calm down, my child." Aletha could not help seeing her child in such a state.

The drive was not too long; yet to the young lady it appeared like it had taken forever. When Kiara looked ahead she saw a sign post written:

WELCOME TO LUNA 7TH AVENUE BRANCH

She hopped out of the car before it had even parked properly.

"Kiara! You will hurt yourself! Can you just calm down!" Aletha was seriously worried about her child. At one moment she even wondered if the girl had gone mad, for real.

In haste, she followed her child, but since she was carrying her grandchild in her arms, the running was not that easy. Kiara soon disappeared behind a building. She almost bumped into a man who was walking, and she excused herself then asked,

"Would you know of any Ethan Anesu, a new employee here?"

"No, go and check from office seven."

"Office seven? Where is office seven?" she asked.

"Go down this pathway and turn left just before you reach the canteen. Continue going down. Yellow building, the office is in ground floor."

"Thanks!" Kiara ran very fast, following the given instructions.

"He is here; he has to be here!" she mumbled to herself as she ran.

Kiara entered into the yellow building and started looking around, checking the numbers on the doors. Office twenty-one, she saw it and ran past it. Office nineteen...she continued. Office seventeen….fifteen….thirteen….eleven….

***.

"Ok, I think it's set now. You can go up. Be careful." A colleague spoke while placing the ladder in place.

The young man, who was a new employee at the company, started to go up, slowly at first, and then he went a bit faster.

"I will need someone to stand by with a phone. While I work, I will ask you to constantly check how the network connection will be responding."

"I can do that," the colleague said.

The young man started working. He looked closely at the entire unit and commented, "This thing is too old."

"It has been there for a longtime. Do you think that's the reason why we don't have network?"

"I cannot conclude that," the new employee said. "It could be anything. I will check, but all the same, I would suggest you place an order for a replacement."

"Noted," the colleague responded as he looked up at the new employee who was busy working while on top of the roof.

Office nine….office seven…

"Knock knock," she knocked at the door.

"Come in," a voice said.

She went in and explained her issue. She urgently needed to see Ethan Anesu.

"You do have an employer called Ethan Anesu, don't you?" she asked, eyes full of hope.

"I'm not too sure. Wait, let me check here. Umm, OK. Yah, we have him. He is still on probation. We don't normally allow personal guests during working hours, but since you said its urgent, you can check him in office fifteen. He works from there."

"Thanks!" and the lady ran back towards office fifteen.

She failed to believe her ears. The man she spoke to actually said yes, we do have Ethan Anesu. Finally! Finally; they were going to meet. She yearned to jump into his arms and allow him to cuddle her for the next countless nights. She wanted to sit down with him so that they could talk about how he managed to escape. She was going to tell him about the video, in which she managed to pick that the arm in the video was not his. She needed to tell him about how Gareth kidnapped her and Vincent….ah, no! Ethan. And above all else; the greatest news was the news of the child. She wanted to tell it to him face to face. To break the news to him, telling him that the child was his! He was a father; in fact he had been one since December the 29th of the previous year. He had a son. Kiara wanted to let him know; to tell him that no; the child was not Vincent Lisandro Pinkerton. His name was Ethan Anesu Rain.

The Pinkertons needed to forget about calling him theirs; they needed to forget about addressing him as the young master…no he was no young master at all. He was not an heir to some shady businesses shadowed by a lot of illegal dealings. No; he was Ethan Anesu; their very own son. A product of their own true love…a love built steadily over many years, sealed and based on nothing but the truth. Kiara wanted to tell it all to him. She had to tell everything to the man that she loved so dearly; with her whole, entire heart.

***

While it was all happening, the young master was arriving at the parking lot of Luna Branch. A driver opened the door for him, and he stepped out of the car. His magnificent suit sat perfectly on his body, it was a faultless fit. He wore a pair of sunglasses to shield his eyes from the sun, and he started walking.

His phone rang, and he immediately answered it.

"She's running towards that white building on the northern side. If you turn left she's most likely to bump into you. There, do you see her?" the man asked.

"I don't see her," Vine had hardly finished his sentence when Kiara, coming from behind a building, bumped into him hard and almost fell down. Was it not for Vine who held her by the wrist and pulled her up; she would have hit the ground.

"Watch where you're going, young lady!" Vine said.

"Ah…oh no, it's you!" Kiara was beyond words due to shock.

"Who were you expecting?" Vine sneered. "Where is my son?"

Kiara almost screamed, 'he is not your son!' but when she remembered what was at stake; she chose silence.

"Let go of me!" she tried to pull her hand, but Vine was holding her firmly.

"We're flying back home now." He stated it as a command not to be opposed.

"Please let go of me!" Kiara pulled again, and seeing that there was no hope, she kicked Vine between the legs.

Considering that Vine had just been shot in that same area, and had stitches there as well; he took the pain really bad; and curled into himself, enduring it in silence. Kiara did not care about that. She ran all the way towards the building; the white building; because they had told her that the man she was looking for was there. As she drew closer, Kiara saw that indeed, there was a man on top of the roof.

"It is him!" she said to herself, and continued to go at an even faster pace.

Kiara wanted to fly. At that moment she wished, if only it were possible to develop some wings and fly at the greatest speed ever. She wanted to be an eagle. The man started to descend. He took one step down, and as he was about to take another step, his leg still mid-air, he heard the most familiar voice ever, screaming ever so loudly,

"Jeremy!!!!!!!!!"

Startled; the man turned around and saw her. He saw her and immediately knew show she was. She was here. Finally; she had arrived. Her black hair flew wildly in the air; just in the same way as it had always flown, when she was just a little girl. She still ran in the same old way; her entire being very captivating. She was holding a bag in her arms; and he could guess what it held. He could almost tell with certainty that they were there in the bag; the two diaries. He knew her that well. He knew that wherever she went, she would carry them with her.

"Jeremy!!" she called again.

He broke into a smile, and in a need to get down as fast as he could; he missed the next step. Seeing that he was already falling, Jeremy did his best to hold on to the top of the ladder; but the ladder, in a split of a second, gave in. It already had a crack; so the place simply broke; sending the man falling down with a thud; the ladder on top of him.

"Nooo!" the lady cried.

"Oh no! His head hit on the corner of this tool box! His head, his head! Call an ambulance!" the colleague wailed in panic.

Kiara arrived and threw herself down into the kneeling position. The amount of blood which she saw scared the daylights out of her.

She looked up at the other man, Jeremy's colleague who was standing and on the verge of tears.

Feeling scared like she had never felt before, she asked the man, "Is he alive?"
