*Vanessa’s POV*
I woke up to bells sounding out.
Deep, dreadful and full—warning bells. No, no, those weren’t the warning bells. Those were the bells that rung when we were being attacked.
I shot out of bed with a jarring start. I had never gotten dressed and flew out of my room as fast as I did in that moment. The entire wing was in shambles the second I stepped out of my bedroom door.
There were tables knocked over, and servants scurrying about to get to their families. I tried to make sense of everything that was happening in a hurry, but I could barely grab hold of someone and ask them what was happening in the flurry.
“My lady!” Helen called out to me, and I saw her make her way to me through the panicked crown.
“Helen! What’s happening? What’s going on?”
She shook her head as she grabbed me, rushing me through the throng of people and into another room that had been emptied.
“There’s no time to explain, my lady. Prince Erik asked me to come find you—”
