*Vanessa’s POV*
“You need to go,” he whispered out, his voice a desperate thing. His gaze bore into mine, almost like it was pleading with me.
“Why?” I asked. It was taking everything in me to not reach out to him. To touch him.
“Someone,” he gulped down thickly, and I watched as his throat bobbed from the restraint. “Someone placed an incense in my room and laced it with an aphrodisiac. I’ve taken it in, I…” He breathed hard through his noise, struggling. “I got rid of it but it’s effects have already hit me.”
“I know.” My own voice sounded like a struggle. “I can feel it too.”
“You should go, Vanessa. It’s not… it isn’t safe for you here.”
He scooted further away from me, and I sat flat on the ground as I stared at him. It felt like we always ended up here, didn’t we? On our knees before each other.
“Why?” I tilted my head at him, a different sort of warmth taking over me now. “Are you going to hurt me?”
