I fall on my back with her on top of me. She grabbed my throat right away with both her hands and started to squeeze my throat to suffocate me. I take out my knife and swing it up towards her right hand. She yells "Ow!" and takes her hand away from my neck. I felt her grip on my throat loosen, then I push her body backwards away from me. She rolled backwards on the floor while holding her knife wounded arm. I grunt and quickly get on top of her and hold my knife against her throat while pinning down her arms under my body.
- "Stay back!", I yell to the other person.
- "Woah woah woah. Don't!", the man said with caution, but he still kept on approaching us. If he keeps on getting closer I stand no chance against 2 people.
- "Stay BACK! Or I can dig my knife into her throat!", I say in a warning tone. That came out much more threatening than I thought it would, but he listened now.
- "Please don't hurt my wife. Please!". The man had a pleading tone now. His hands open in front of him, gesturing to me to calm down.
- "Well then, your WIFE attacked me first like a psycho! I'm just defending myself" I say justifying my actions. People really do bring out the worst in me.
- "I'm sorry my wife did that. But I won't let her attack you again. You'll be fine" he says in a kind tone. He actually admitted it was his wife's fault to a stranger! Did she do this before? How does he know?
- "Why the fuck should I trust you? She jumped me out of nowhere! And STAY BACK!" I yell as I strengthen my grip on the knife. I take a quick glance at her face. She was crying. Not ugly cry, but a quiet noiseless cry. And she was looking straight at my face while doing so. What a psycho.
He takes a step back. Still keeping that calm tone to try not to startle me. I see my bag right next to me. I think of all the ways I could escape from this situation. If I let go of her even for a second he'll attack me right away. Even if we both tried to get up from this position my back would be exposed to him. And also there's no way she'll do whatever I say with that full of hate look on her face. She was really trying to kill me when she was suffocating me! Why would she do that? I ask myself. Even though she was warning me to run away seconds before this man came in. Maybe is it because of him?
- "Why did she attack me?" I ask. I need to buy time. Maybe he'll give me the information that I need to get out of here. As far as I have this knife against her throat I'm safe.
- "She was just scared. She's scared of strangers. Maybe you startled her somehow." he says. So it's my fault now huh. Now I'm seriously pissed.
- "Take a step back and hold your hand high against the wall! You better not try anything!" I warn.
He nods slowly and starts to go backwards. I glance at my bag beside me. Maybe I can grab my bag quickly and run for the door. I'll just knock her out with a punch in the nose and make a run for it.
Right as I was throwing the punch she moves her head and dodges. I could not land the punch and only grazed her ear and hair. She recovered quickly and threw my body up from her. I landed on my butt about 2 steps away from her. I quickly held the knife up aiming at her. Right as she was about to lunge at me again the man hugs her from behind and holds her back. She's struggling to get out of his hold but the man is whispering something to her while holding her.
- "I'm angry because she cut me!" she said while grunting and struggling to be free. I'm dumbfounded by what she just said.
- "Can you please leave the two of us here for a while?", the man asks towards me.
I nod and quickly reach out to my bag. I start to run towards the woods and don't stop. Apparently all that struggle burned all my energy, and I started to slow down after running past three blocks from the supermarket. I check to see if they're following me. .The road behind me is empty.
Right as I was about to look forward and continue running, a zombie attacks me. While I was running away from them I forgot to be cautious of my surroundings. I held my bag between me and the zombie and pushed him away from myself. And landed a few throws with my bag full of canned food. The impact made a loud "thud" noise and I hit again. After the zombie lost its balance I continued to run away again.
Shit! If I run into one zombie then the others start to follow! If I make a run for the forest I'll attract almost all the zombies here in this city towards the forest with me. I won't be able to run away from them eventually. I can stay in one of these buildings for one or two days until the zombies forget my scent. But I'll have to be careful not to get caught by the couple there.
After running for one block I found a decent looking 4 story apartment complex. The entrance is visible from the outside, with decent looking door locks. I just have to choose one and stay inside for a few days like I don't exist. Then I can leave this city at night in the dark. I head for the second floor. Easier to jump out the window if it's ever compromised. From here on it's just a matter of my favorite number from 4-8 really. I choose 7 and open the door for apartment 7.
Fuck! As soon as I open the apartment door the zombie who was inside notices me and starts to run straight at me at full speed. I stay right outside the door baiting him to keep running at me. And right at the last second he got close to me. I move sideways hiding behind the door. The zombie could not stop in time and kept on running straight over the edge of the open corridor rail. I go inside and quickly shut and lock the door behind me.
Apartment number 7 did not have other zombies roaming inside. Thankfully the window was open wide so there was no foul zombie stench in the apartment. I look out the window to secure my escape route. There was a wild bush right down the window and I could see the south forest from here. I try not to touch anything that's visible from the window. I head toward the bedroom and relax on the bed. I lie down quietly and think to myself
- "I can stay dead here for a few days".
But then I hear 3 knocks on my door.
