Chapter 269 - A personal decision

This group that actually looked like a family looked at Rick's trio in silence. Unexpectedly, they only mentioned the leader who is not in their group right now, but even so, they spoke highly of that person. You don't have to be very observant to know that all of these men were saved by that leader.

Elen couldn't help but be very interested in that person, she remembered him over and over again in silence, planning to meet him when she had the chance in the future.

The few people gathered in this room talked to each other for a long time, and this group of survivors became more and more relaxed as they knew what kind of people Rick's trio were. In the end, even little Katia didn't need to be hidden. Instead she stepped aside and quietly listened to the conversation of these people, blinking her big eyes from time to time.

Without anyone noticing, night slowly fell. And it was then that a voice came out of Rick's radio intercom: "Zz.... Zz... Rick! Can you hear me?"

Just as a group of people were chatting so familiarly, the sound of the sudden voice alerted everyone, and the source of the voice was none other than his good friend Shane, but he discovered that he was being pressed by Lori who was concerned.

"I get it, Lori, I heard what you just said!"

Lori! I'm fine."

"It's late, aren't you planning on coming back today?"

Looking up at the fading sky light outside the window, Rick picked up the radio and pressed the intercom button; "Zz.... Sorry, Lori, all indications are that I won't be able to make it back today. We find a good group of survivors, and as you know, it always takes some time to generate trust. "

After Rick said that, it took a few minutes before Lori's voice came out of the radio, "Didn't you tell me you were definitely coming back today?"

Looking at the people in the surrounding who were staring at him in silence, Rick showed an expression full of helplessness, and finally couldn't help but speak in an apologetic tone, "It's my fault since I didn't think it through, I'll be back tomorrow without fail, okay?"

"Alright... Rick, you have to be very careful outside and remember those walkers that move in the night! Did you hear me?"

"Yeah, get some rest and I'll be back tomorrow without fail."

After placing the radio back in its holster, Gerry to the side flashed a smile.

"Your Wife?"

Rick smiled and nodded slightly in response.

"Even Morgan's wife didn't get that nervous when she went to Texas, or was it that she didn't hear that they almost died from those crazies sending kids with knives?" Guillermo joked at one point where he thought joking was needed, but soon found that everyone was looking at him with strange expressions.

"Cof* Well, that's why I'm single." Guillemo muttered.

Gerry showed a surprised expression, but after his eyes roamed over the girl named Katia, he smiled with understanding.

"They seem to have been through a lot and know the world better than we do currently. But they should be happy. It's great to feel like someone cares about you, without us being blood related."

Morgan nodded empathetically. He thought about what Gerry had just said and then about the stiff Guillermo next to him, and yet he made another joke.

"Although you can't tell I think my wife is the same way, we'll check once we get back, haha."

All the men showed meaningful expressions.

...

The group of people in this building talked for a long time, and it was not until Morgan's stomach made a sound that Elen realized that it was late and now she had to prepare something to eat.

Realizing that several people were staying the night, Gerry pointed to the door.

"You guys just stay with us, don't worry about anything and let the others help clean up a room for them to spend the night."

Rick watched the sky gradually darkening outside the window, and could only nod helplessly. By then Guillermo fetched a backpack and brought food, after all he didn't know if there was enough food for everyone to eat in this place.

"Then we'll sleep in the next room."

Communication all afternoon had eliminated the hostility that this group felt for Rick and others. Knowing that they would spend the night, Elen and her sister Noa began to clean a place to stay.

To express his trusting gratitude, Rick planned to give this group of survivors a sumptuous dinner in the evening and, in the process, talk in more detail about getting them back to base.

It had been a long time since this house had been this lively, Gerry drank a lot of wine at dinner and finally Rick took him to his room.

As soon as he put Gerry down, Rick discovered that his clothes were being held by Gerry, he looked back and discovered that the other party was still drunk and staring at him with wide eyes.

"Can we talk?"

Rick didn't understand what the other party was referring to, but still nodded and sat down by the window, ready to hear what this man was about to say.

Gerry's face was a little red from the alcohol in his body. Although the wine managed to calm him down, he still had something to say to Rick who was the leader of these people.

"You know, I slowly learned what it meant to be a man after Katia was born! As her only guardian, my task was to protect her from harm and now my state has become this way."

As he spoke, Gerry's expression showed restrained helplessness and he slapped his leg. He better than anyone else hated the fact that he was a cripple when the end of the world came. When Katia, his granddaughter needed more about him, could only sit in an helpless chair!

Rick quickly stopped Gerry's movements. He could understand the other party's mood, but he couldn't just watch him idly. He patted Gerry's shoulder sharing empathy. Rick grabbed the man's arm and said softly, "Listen, Katia is a strong girl! Elen and Noa are strong girls who wouldn't abandon you, do you want to hold up the status of your group? Now is not the time to fall apart, all you have to do, no, all you have to do is stay strong in front of your family, do you understand?"

Gerry slowly recomposed his expression. He grabbed Rick's hand and said in a pleading tone, "I beg you, take Elen and the others with you when they leave in the morning. Make sure they can live safely, and Katia, I hope someday she can talk again, she's still so young."

Rick leaned over to look at Gerry with a strange expression.

I didn't know what to tell Gerry and after nodding he left the room.

...

The next morning Rick got up early, the weather was even worse today, the sky began to drizzle and the air outside the window became colder. Rick looked down the road and saw the ground wet from the rain, and began to think about the preparations that needed to be made for the winter.

"Gerry!"

But at that moment, a sudden shout came from the next room! Rick's originally relaxed nerves immediately tensed, he grabbed his Colt from the table and ran out of the room.

"Knock, knock, knock!"

Knocking next door, an ominous premonition gradually rose in Rick's body. For some reason, the other party's words as he left Gerry's room last night popped into his mind.

Bom!

At this point, it was Katia who opened the door, and Noa pushed the girl into the living room to wait.

Rick watched all this silently, and as soon as he entered the room, he saw Elen pointing the gun at Gerry on the bed. Her hands were shaking violently. And Rick who looked down at the bed froze, looking at Gerry who was contracting.

"Ahh!"

At this moment, Gerry let out a low growl, this sound was so familiar to Rick, undead! Gerry turned into a walker!

He stepped forward quickly and supported Elen who was already collapsing, only then did he notice Elen as in his hands a piece of paper fell to the ground.

Rick bent down and picked up the paper. It turned out to be a letter from Gerry. After quickly scanning the contents of the letter, Rick felt the father lying in bed at that moment suddenly become extremely brave.

Not to slow anyone down, he actually chose to commit suicide! Not realizing that he could have lived without his problems really being a problem.
