Chapter 24 - The Sound

Airon looked up at the sky, the rain really couldn't be avoided, although he tried to speed up the progress as much as possible, he didn't have the right perception and this was something that was really impossible to guess, besides he could even assure that the time he arrived at the building was later than in the original plot.

But due to his visual inspection, he discovered that the distance to the parking lot was not far away. Airon made a few signs, reminding the two people next to him about the general situation.

Pointing to the sky, everyone understood that it would most likely rain.

After pointing, Airon tightened the rope in his hand and slowly pulled the walker behind him to his side.

Seeing Airon's movements, Rick and Merle did the same and pulled the rope.

The three of them moved forward about ten more meters, and it wasn't long before the rain water hit their heads. Airon looked back, and the walkers beside them were starting to become scarce, so he wiggled two fingers of his hand and they all understood that he should pick up the pace.

Airon had asked Merle and Rick to be alert to the surrounding environment. Anything could happen on this adrenaline-filled hike, and when looking at those horrible-looking walkers, very few people would be able to keep their cool.

Finally, they walked to the edge of the fence without any risk, the three of them threw the rope in their hands and Airon let the two of them go through first.

At least the people here are not common, and no one will waste time by voting who will pass first, when Airon moved for the two to pass, they did so without saying a word.

The sound of the fence crashing instantly broke the silence in the quiet street. Almost instantly, all the nearby walkers turned their rotting, blood-streaked faces to their side, and the not-so-nearby walkers also followed the others.

Airon, with a cold expression, drew his modified pistol and a knife from his vest, and began to move without waiting for the nearby walkers to move forward.

He knew it deep inside him, he couldn't fight the walkers right next to the mesh fence, otherwise, the space may play a bad situation on him and it would be really hard to get rid of all the walkers.

With a grim smile, Airon stabbed his knife at the first walker nearby, his hand moved so fast that the cut was clean and blood spurted out staining the ground.

"Crack!"

With the heads being pierced by his dagger, Airon didn't use his weapon at the moment, he had to at least clear the fenced off area in order to climb safely.

Soon enough, corpses began to fall quickly to the ground, these walkers were much slower than the ones he dealt with in the hospital. According to Edwin Jenner's own words, in at least Europe there were infected who were faster and could do incredible things like climb or open doors. However, for those who are far from that type of infection they will eventually slow down and become weaker.

Although Glenn and the others on top of the building are a long distance away, they can still vaguely see a person fighting the walkers.

Glenn lifted his binoculars to get a closer look and exclaimed, "It's Airon, he's taking out the walkers and it looks like he protected Merle and Rick."

"Airon Darcy, he has a lot of knowledge and is a good leader. He saved me and many civilians who can now be safe in a shelter. I can tell that even if he is serious or acts tough in different situations, he cares about people."

Mike remembered when his friend Marcó and he were saved with the others, even though the army had withdrawn, Airon decided to risk saving them from imminent death.

Everyone at the CDC respected him a lot, thanks to his skills and observations, many people can eat and have a comfortable bed to sleep in.

The rest of the people also watched the situation from afar, but they could only watch Airon's hand move up and down, easily eliminating several walkers in an instant.

The people above couldn't help but be surprised. They were all still at the stage where they could not kill walkers without a weapon. When has anyone ever seen a person move a knife without using a weapon in their hand?

Just when they were still admiring Airon's skill, they saw Airon finish off the nearby walkers and turn around running quickly.

With a leap, he stepped on the fence and in two consecutive steps and strong hands, his whole body jumped and crossed the fence.

"Damn, who is that guy really, why is he so strong and doesn't seem to be afraid of walkers, isn't he just a soldier stationed at the CDC?" Morales looked a little confused.

Glenn was also clicking his tongue, but T-dog added a sentence on the sidelines.

"Yes, a Special Forces soldier."

"Don't be overwhelmed, there is training going on at the CDC for those who want to be guards and protect the shelter, everyone will be able to take out a dozen walkers when they are confident in their skills." Mike said with a smile.

Several people looked at each other and immediately felt very happy.

At the parking lot fence, Rick and Merle, who had just jumped the fence, wanted to turn around to meet Airon, and just as they wanted to turn around and jump, the other party jumped over the fence.

Rick smiled, turned around and ran into the parking lot in search of the key box.

Merle smiled. He crawled slowly at this point, and when he turned the fence, he saw Airon taking down several walkers with a knife. Merle was secretly glad that he could meet a strong and ruthless person who could understand his way of acting and seeing this world.

When he was in the building he stopped when he knew that the situation was not good, this person really was someone to be feared.

This thought went through Merle's mind, and then he thought that he and Airon were on the same side, so he should pay attention to him in the future.

Airon, who flew over the fence, did not immediately run to the truck, but pulled out the grenade he had taken from the tank.

"Boom!"

The huge explosion in the distance echoed through the whole place, and the walkers slowly moved toward the parking lot.

The explosion of the grenade was very sudden, then he pulled out his gun and began to take out the nearest walkers.

"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Quickly emptying the magazine without walking, Airon put the gun away and ran towards the truck.

By this time, Rick had already grabbed the keys, ran to the truck and signaled Merle that it was done, and Airon reached out to hold the keys that were thrown to him.

"Vroooom!"

The truck easily caught fire, and as soon as the two climbed into the truck, Airon didn't immediately drive away, but honked the horn.

The high-pitched whistle once again pierced the silent street and stretched into the distance. The walkers who were attracted by the explosion could not help but move faster.

It lasted only a few seconds, Airon stopped hesitating, turned the steering wheel and the truck sped towards another exit of the parking lot.

"Boom!"

The gate of the parking lot fence opened and the truck sped away.

The people on the roof of the building were anxious to see through what he was saying. As they saw the truck pull out of the parking lot and finally start moving, they couldn't help but cheer.

"Awesome!"

"Thank God, they did it!"

"Let's get ready." Mike said as they climbed down from the building.

...

In the van, Rick was sitting in the front passenger seat, while Merle put his hands on the back of the front and passenger seat, poking his head forward.

"Airon, did you honk your horn just now to attract the parking lot walkers?"

Since Merle thought it was convenient to be next to Airon, the cynicism in his speech seemed to have greatly diminished.

"Well, let's take a walk around this place and wait for the walkers at the entrance of the building to walk to the parking lot, that way we'll have enough time to pick up the others."

Rick nodded silently for a moment, then suddenly said seriously to Airon, "Thanks to your help, we can get out of here safely."

Turning his head to look, Rick's eyes were full of sincerity, Airon smiled slightly and didn't speak, just reached out and patted Rick's shoulder.

"Can you two stop being nasty? I'm afraid the truck will stop working and everything will go to shit."

Airon pulled out the radio and said, "Get ready everyone, we're about to move."

About ten minutes later, there was a "bang bang bang bang" sound at the side door of the building, and then everyone heard the voice Merle Dixon.

"Open the door! Open the fucking door! Do you still want to leave this place?"

Everyone hurriedly opened the side door. At that moment, the walkers that had been breaking the front entrance door finally rushed inside the glass.

They all hurriedly lifted the blind, threw the packages around them into the truck and quickly climbed in.

Airon's group began shooting at the nearby walkers before climbing into the truck.

Everyone was full of adrenaline due to the situation that had just happened.
