"Doc, I need to know how much time I have left to live." Yara insisted while fiddling her fingers.
"Yara, if only we could get a donor for you then you have a chance to live a few more years. I'll give you a few days to decide about getting a kidney transplant, then I'll put your name on the waiting list." The doctor said.
"I want to know how many are on the waiting list so that I can see if I really want to settle with it."
"Okay," he muttered as he tapped his laptop. 'I'm afraid there are a thousand people waiting to get a match, but I think the sooner you get a donor, the better for you." He shook his head with disbelief and sighed silently waiting for her response.
Yara on the other hand was straying to wonderland, thinking of the possible people she could get to conduct a blood test on them. Having been brought up by her grandfather, she knew no other relatives. In campus, she had no buddies but at least she had a boyfriend, one who always helped her out with money for her medicine. She never loved him and he too was a playboy, jumping from one damsel to another. They were not in a committed relationship and Yara was fine with it besides it was for the best in case one day she chanced to join her parents in heaven. Her boyfriend, Blake had no idea of her terminal condition and she didn't want anyone else to know about it either.
Yara was eight when she was diagnosed with lupus, an incurable disease that attacked her own tissues and organs, causing inflammation in different parts of her body systems - including her joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs. Her kidneys were failing and therefore the need to get a donor ASAP or else she couldn't be able to make it a few months time.
Yara was already going through a lot but she chose to stay positive for her old man's sake. Her grandpa needed her the most because of his diabetic condition. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes ever since he was a teen and he had been on medication for the past fifty years.
Yara's folks died in a grisly road accident on her sixteenth birthday and her grandpa had to resume the roles of both father and mother to her. Even with her condition, she fended for herself when her grandpa couldn't make ends meet.
"Yara, are you okay?" The doctor asked when he saw her spacing out.
"Yeah, I'm fine...I really have to go." She blurted out without thinking when the doctor startled her.
"Alright, don't forget to come for your IV infusion every four weeks." He reminded her.
"Sure." She muttered and left the doctor's office feeling overwhelmed. Tears had already brimmed her vision that she didn't notice someone else was walking down the hallway.
"Hey! Watch out, will you? Where's your manners!" A cold voice rang out.
Yara's tears cascaded down her swollen cheeks as she struggled to find the restrooms.
Her soft sobs and whimpers made the young handsome man, clad in a black business suit, follow her to the washrooms. He had his hands balled into fists because for the very first time, he went after someone without giving it a thought, considering he was the most searched billionaire in Aston. One of the top richest bachelor who gave many damsels and even older women sleepless nights.
The thirty-year old man was an epitome of success, an envy of many men in Aston because none of them could match up to him. He had many villas, islands, companies and expensive machines. He was the only child of Almond and Vanessa Griffins who owned half of Aston, the Griffins were famous all over the world.
Even so, Shark Griffins was hard to approach because everyone knew he was cold and ruthless, one who couldn't let his guard down for anyone instead, he could make everyone go on their knees if they ever offended him. That's who he was, wanting everything done in his own way. He gave the rules and everyone ought to obey them no matter how peculiar they sounded.
Yara wiped her tears with a napkin and looked at herself in the large mirror, she saw her own reflection, her swollen face, red cheeks and her nose bleeding.
"Oh no!" She gasped in horror as blood stained her white blouse. She immediately bent down and washed her face clean then looked at her reflection again, fresh tears rolled down her burning cheeks. She felt immense pain when her face was beginning to dry. She ransacked through her satchel for her sun cream as she knew she was about to walk out in the sun.
She gently applied the cream while whimpering and then did a light touch of makeup. That's the only way she could hide her inflammation. When she was done, she took her satchel and was about to walk out when someone blocked her way.
'You're beautiful, you don't need to use those fake products on your natural face, they only make you more uglier." He was surprised with the way he was behaving towards her let alone his words.
Yara couldn't afford to lose her cool, if only the man knew the intensity of his words, he could regret it for the rest of his life on earth. Yara didn't look up or pay attention to who was talking instead, she walked past him, brushing her shoulders with his. Shark almost lost his balance, his eyes popping with disbelief as he watched her disappear.
"Did she just walk out on me? No, she didn't." He mumbled to himself not realizing that someone was recording him all that while he stood there trying to win Yara over. Since he was the internet sensation, that someone was going to benefit from his findings.
