Intro: Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town - The DU (Johnathan Young English Cover)
Look at all the faceless gazes that are passing by
Fix this hole in my heart if I go left or right
The sky is the limit, this town and everything in it is so bizarre
Yeah!
(It's just a morning passing by)
And reluctantly I'm smiling!
(The victor undecided)
And I'm drawn to the mystery!
(A hidden starting line)
And it's lurking in the shadows, somewhere within this town!
The time flies and we're flowing free
Bickering the day away as we
Are dancing all the way around
This Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town!
------
Two electricians are fixing the power cables in the dead of the night. One of them is using a flashlight to illuminate the other man.
"Puñeta. I'm so exhausted." The man with the flashlight yawns.
"Don't worry. This is the last one and then we can drink afterwards." The other man checks the loose cables. Suddenly, the cable wraps around his neck and pulls him up to the pole.
"Pablo!" He is in shock as all he can do is witness Pablo choking to death. A broken cable hovers over him. He turns and screams. The cable is forced into his mouth, shocking him until completely frying him.
*La mañana*
Abraham didn't sleep. He was kept all night with the events that have transpired since he arrived. The words of Rua and Miguel echoes in his mind.
(Jupia. Soul of a woman who never found rest. Turned monster through unfortunate events. Only those with the gift can perceive them.)
(La Rosa Quemada. A gang I've been hunting, cause they killed my uncle.)
(Regardless of how you feel, you're now a part of this.)
"First monsters, then spirits and now a gang. Rrrgh! I just wanted a peaceful vacation!" He thrashes around the bed.
There's a knock on the door. "Abby. Es abuela."
"Come in." She enters with a plate of breakfast. The smell of the coffee perks him up.
"Are you okay? You have heavy bags under your eyes." Awilda says.
"I'm just trying to get used to not having constant air-conditioning." He is telling half the truth. He's currently drenched in sweat.
"Pues, just eat the meal and hop in the shower. You're stinky." She chuckles before leaving the room.
"Bon appetit." Abraham devours the breakfast and chugs down the coffee. Even eating a plate meant for three servings, he is still hungry. He pulls out a bag of chocolate, which there's only one left. "Ugh. I hate how nothing can satisfy my cravings anymore." He sighs and munches on the treat. A wave of euphoria and relief spreads throughout his body.
After taking a hot shower, Abraham goes downstairs and is surprised to see Rua in the living room. She is playing with the kids.
"Guau! Que alta eres!"
"Que bonita eres!" The kids are talking at once.
"Quiquiqui~! Claro! Ustedes van a ser también gran Taínos!" Rua laughs with them. She notices Abraham. "Dale. Tengo que irme." The kids whine and she approaches him. Upon being alone, her smile drops. "You reek of that accursed smell." She says with a hint of spite.
Confused by the comment, Abraham smells his armpit. "I just put on deodorant."
She pokes his chest. "The stench of death lingers on you. That means you interacted with that man."
"Look. I was just curious an-"
Rua puts her hand up. "It's fine. I'm used to not being listened to."
Abraham now feels bad. Awilda was going to tease him about Rua, until she saw the serious expression on their faces. "Here you go, Abby." She hands him a bag of chocolate without question. "Aquí tienes también." She prepared a bag for Rua as well.
"Muchas gracias!" She smiles.
"By the way, there's a bottle of alcohol in the fridge. Please try to not drink in front of the kids."
"Don't worry. It was meant for her anyway." Abraham says. He goes to get the bottle and gives it to her.
Rua perks up. "Al fin!" She opens it and downs the alcohol as if it was water. Abraham and Awilda are watching in amazement while she finishes drinking the entire bottle. "Fuaaa~! Eso lo necesitaba." She hiccups.
Awilda lightly elbows him. "She's a keeper." His eyes widened at the comment, making the ladies laugh at him.
Someone knocks on the door. "I'll get it!" Abraham quickly goes to the door to avoid more teasing. He opens it to find Miguel on the other side. "Miguel?" He looks behind him to see that Rua is distracted with his grandma and quietly goes outside. "How did you know where I'm staying?"
He shrugs. "Newi can trace anything that hits her smoke." He notices the damp spot on Abraham's chest. "Spilled water on yourself?" He points at it.
Abraham tries to wipe it off, but it's very slimy. "Ugh. Sorry. A frog jumped on me."
Miguel analyzes his face for a moment. "Okay." He pulls out a newspaper. "We have a problem."
Abraham reads the headline. "I'm sorry. I don't know how to read in Spanish."
He sighs. "Two workers from la Autoridad Energia Electrica were found dead yesterday night. One hanged, the other electrocuted. I think it-"
"Abraham! Where are y-" Rua steps out and sees Miguel.
"Tú!" They both point at each other.
"Have you both met already?" Abraham asks.
"Esta puta keeps messing with me every time I hunt the gang members!" Miguel says.
"Este cabron is hunting innocent people with Death! It's the Jupias that caused the killings!" Rua yells back.
"Innocent? Those fuckers kill people on the daily, Rana! The 'Jupias' are just them using their Stands, pendeja!" They keep insulting each other. The kids are watching through the windows.
"Guys. Guys! Let's try to calm down. There are children here." They both notice the kids and get flustered. He clasps his hands together. "Seems there is some misunderstanding. It's clear both of you are trying to use your Zemis for good causes. Which is great!" He tries to sound positive, but they are not buying it. "Miguel, there are Jupias. I encountered one a couple nights ago and it almost tried to kill us. It left a teenager in a hospital. And Rua, those gangs are definitely not as innocent as you think. One of them disguised himself as a cop and tried to shoot him. Luckily Proyecto Uno was there to protect us. All I'm saying is that instead of being against each other, we should work together to stop whatever the hell is happening."
The two look at Abraham then at each other. Miguel pulls out a cigar and lights it. "I've been doing this solo for six months and I haven't made any progress at all. I feel like a damn cop. Arriving when it's too late." He exhales the smoke, which makes him lightly cough.
Rua is starting to feel sympathy. "I feel the same way. So many innocents died. I can only find them by guessing the general area." They both sit down, wallowing in their sadness.
"...Not exactly how I expected to turn out, but it's a start. Now that you guys know how each other feels, we have to think of a way to resolve the problem of tracking them down first before they strike." Abraham says.
"Not that easy. According to my research, the only way to track Stands and Jupias is either having one that can do the tracking or using él Mal de Ojo." Miguel explains.
"Uuuh. What's that?" Abraham asks.
Rua pulls out blue beads from her pocket. "These. I believe you call them Nazar beads. But it's not enough to just have them. They have to be blessed by a true acolyte of the land. Which in this case it's Atabey." She sighs. "However, I don't think there are any followers left with her shrine. It's impossible."
Awilda comes out. "Is everything going well, Abby?"
Abraham grins. "Seems we at least have that one issue resolved!" They all look at him weirdly.
In the Shrine Room, the three are in front of the golden statue while Awilda is doing a prayer. "Gran Diosa Atabey, por favor protege a tus niños de los espíritus malos." She dips the beads in the purified water she placed on the altar. She walks up to Abraham and puts the necklace around his neck, then places the bracelet on Rua's wrist and ties the beads on one of Miguel's left locks. "Amen."
Abraham checks the necklace. "Kinda creepy that they look like eyes. As if watching me." He shivers.
"Gracias, Señora Abacoá! Esto nos va ayudar tanto." Rua says.
"It looks good." Miguel plays with it.
"I'm glad you all like it." Awilda smiles. They leave the room. "I'll be attending the kids. Have fun!" She goes downstairs.
"All right. Now that the coast is clear, we can talk about the problem." Miguel pulls out the newspaper again.
"Hmmm. I want to say a Jupia did it, but they are known to devour their victims. None of them are missing any body parts." Rua says.
"It isn't Rosa, because they are not linked to them in any way. And while they're pedazo de mierdas, they wouldn't risk killing people indiscriminately." Miguel explains.
"I guess we'll have to investigate it ourselves. Let's wait until night when the police aren't around." Abraham says. They nod and wait until nightfall.
*La Noche Buena*
Abraham parks the car close to the site. The three leave the vehicle.
"The place should be a couple blocks down. Get ready for a possible fight." Miguel says while pulling out a cigar. Abraham has his chocolate and Rua her bottle of Bacardi on them before heading there.
They walk on the sidewalk acting normal. Their only source of illumination is the moon due to the streetlights not having power. The wind rustles the leaves on the trees. They approach the crime scene, which has the yellow tape blocking the way. The bodies have been removed.
"Wish they left the bodies to investigate them." Miguel says while hopping over the tape. He checks the loose cables, which he can feel the power coursing through. "Everything seems normal."
Rua notices red hair near the poles. "Mira." She brings attention to it. She picks one strand. It shocks her. "Ouch!" She let it go.
"That's definitely strange. Something like this wouldn't have gone unnoticed." Miguel says.
While they're all distracted, a cable inches closer towards him. A giant arm emerges from it. Their beads are vibrating violently, making Abraham turn to notice the arm extend towards Miguel. Abraham's body reacts fast and shoves him out of the way. The arm grazes them, then smacks the electrical pole, causing it to break it. Rua hops out before it lands on her.
"It's a Jupia!" She shouts. The arm retracts back to the cable. A red light is running through the cords.
"I'll chase after it!" Miguel lights the cigar and exhales. Newi emerges from the smoke and he jumps onto her. "Follow the feathers!" Newi flies and pursues after the Jupia. The other two rush to the car to catch up. They follow the spirit all the way down towards the power grid. Newi lands on top of the car, as the crew witness the Jupia fully emerge from one of the generators.
Her body is elongated and covered in red fur, having the form of a mongoose. Her face has malformed into a canine snout, dripping with saliva and electricity. While she retained her human arms, her legs have shortened to be that of the animal. "Quiiiiuuu!" she lets out an inhuman squeak.
She rushes at them. Newi jumps towards her to attack, but the Jupia bites her claws, causing Newi and Miguel to be electrified.
Abraham quickly eats his candy. "Proyecto Uno!" She is summoned and swims on the ground to punch the snout in order to release them. However, the hit causes ProUno to be affected by the electrical current, giving the Jupia opportunity to bite her shoulder and causing more discharge. "Ungh!" Abraham constantly shakes as the wound appears on him.
Miguel recovers. "Maldita sea! Ayudala!" He inhales the entire cigar. Newi spews a stream of smoke at the Jupia. Some smoke hits ProUno, which feels like hundreds of cigarettes hitting their arms. The Jupia let's her go and ProUno sinks to the ground. Miguel coughs uncontrollably. He spits out black sludge.
Rua calmly gets out of the car and approaches the Jupia. "Absofacto." She smashes the bottle to the ground. An arm extends from the alcohol and Rua pulls her Zemi out.
Absofacto's body is golden colored. She's wearing a long white loincloth with an ancient symbol of the Coqui on it. She has a vejigante mask with the colors of their national flag. Her long dreaded golden hair has vines at the tip. "Ké Ké Ké!" She rhythmically sways her hips.
The Jupia snarls and charges at her. Absofacto wipes her hair to release the vines between them. As soon as the spirit gets close, the vines shoot up to trap her in place. Absofacto removes two spikes from the mask and stabs the Jupia repeatedly. "ORI ORI ORI!" She shouts.
"Ne-COUGH-wi! Avanza!" Miguel commands her, while he checks on Abraham. Newi nods and joins on the assault.
"Ungh. Fuck!" he cries in pain trying to stop the bleeding.
"Don't worry, man. We'll get you to the hospital now." He comforts him.
"W-Wait. I'm not done yet." Abraham says. In that moment, Proyecto Uno emerges from under the Jupia with a broken cable and wraps it around her neck. The spirit breaks loose from the vines and starts flailing around. ProUno forcefully steers to crash her head against the steel beams. Grabbing the broken end, the shark jams it on one of the open wounds and electrocutes the monster along with her. The spirit overcharges, causing an explosion. ProUno is blasted against the car, which makes Abraham fly to the back seat.
Miguel and Rua act fast to pull him out. Miguel checks for his breathing. He performs CPR. "Vamos, cabrón. No te me mueras!" He pumps his chest a couple times.
Abraham starts coughing. "A-Am I in heaven?" He weakly says.
"Tch. Don't do crazy shit like that again." Miguel says, but gives a sigh of relief.
"Ooow. My chest, shoulder, arms…everywhere." Abraham grunts.
Rua uses her hands to spread the slime on his wounds. Absofacto traces her finger on the substance and his wounds start to heal. "De nada." She grins. They pull him up.
"Ouch! Careful. I'm still sore as fuck." He massages his body. They turn to see the Jupia struggling to get up. She limps towards the woods. "Oh no you don't!" The crew chases after her. The spirit doesn't make it far before collapsing and turning to dust. "Hell yeah! We did it!" He jumps with excitement.
Miguel looks around the area. He notices an AEE uniform hidden among the bushes. He checks the pockets to find a wallet. "Check this out." They see an ID of a redhead woman named Rosa Catalina. There's a photo of two man smiling with her.
"Isn't that the two men she killed?" Abraham asks.
Rua cast her gaze down. "They must've done something terrible to her. She was consumed by revenge.
"Or maybe the last thing she saw was this photo and assumed they were the perpetrators." Miguel looks at the dust, which is being carried by the wind. "Doesn't matter either way. The important thing is that she has been stopped before taking more victims." He walks up to Rua. "I owe you an apology. I thought you were making shit up."
"Ah. No, it's fine. While I don't agree with your pact with Death, I can see now you're a good man." They both smile and shake hands.
Abraham is still sad. "Damn. We don't know what actually happened to prevent something like this. Did we really solve the problem?"
Rua pats his back. "There will be some things that we'll never know. But just like Miguelito said, we stopped her. Let us celebrate that victory!" She pumps her fists in the air.
Abraham sighs. "I guess. It's just…I just need closure, you know? Did she become like that because they abused her or maybe some horrible misunderstanding?"
Miguel looks up at the moon. "Trust me, I'm not fine with this. There's too many fucked up shit happening in the world and it angers me that not everyone will get proper justice." He faces Abraham. "But we do what we can. Because the worst thing we can do is nothing about it." The two look at him with surprise. He turns away blushing. "That's what I believe anyways."
Abraham smiles. He wraps his arm around him. "You're right. Doing something is better than nothing. That's a good motto to live by."
Rua group hugs. "Quiquiqui~! I'm so happy to have people to help our home become a better place!" They all laugh. Miguel calls the police to report about the missing woman and they go home with high spirits.
