Chapter 287 - Dangerous livestreaming -282

The situation was growing more dire by the second. Steve could hear the urgency in Peggy's voice, but he wasn't sure how much more they could endure. SCP-682 had grown exponentially since their first encounter.

Its blows were harder, its movements faster, and its very presence seemed to radiate pure malice. Every strike Steve blocked with his shield rattled his bones, and every time he hit the creature, it seemed less fazed.

The reptile's size was now overwhelming—more than double what it had been when they first engaged it. The sheer force behind its attacks was enough to send cars flying, topple trees, and smash through solid walls.

The narrow forest where they had originally engaged it was no longer a suitable battleground. Forced into the open streets, Steve, Bucky, and Peggy found themselves constantly battling to keep SCP-682 away from innocent civilians.

In the streets of Tokyo, crowds were gathering, drawn by the sound of gunfire, explosions, and the earth-shaking roars of the monster. Every time the trio tried to push SCP-682 back, it would divert its attention toward the growing throng of onlookers, forcing them to rush in and engage again. The more they fought, the more it seemed like SCP-682 was feeding off the conflict, growing in both power and rage.

Steve's thoughts raced as he blocked another savage swipe from the creature. He could feel the ground tremble beneath him, knowing they had no chance of forcing the beast back into the forest. "Bucky! Peggy! We need to keep it contained here!" he shouted, already knowing the precariousness of their situation. The crowd was getting too close, and there wasn't much space left for them to maneuver.

"How exactly are we supposed to contain something that keeps getting bigger every second?" Bucky shot back, barely dodging a tail strike that sent a parked car flying into a nearby building. Dust and debris filled the air as the structure crumbled under the weight of the impact.

Peggy, breathing heavily from the strain of carrying the heavy weaponry she had brought along, glanced at the civilians still watching, some even recording the battle on their phones. "If this thing gets any closer to the city center, we're going to have a full-scale disaster on our hands," she warned, her tone sharp.

SCP-682 seemed to revel in the destruction, its eyes gleaming with sadistic joy. "Yes… more witnesses to your failure. More humans to watch as their protectors fall!" it growled, its voice echoing with a deep, malevolent satisfaction.

Steve gritted his teeth and rushed at SCP-682 once more, shield raised, determined to keep it occupied. As he slammed into the reptile's side, the creature barely flinched, letting out a mocking laugh. "Do you still think you can stop me, human? Your efforts are futile. I will destroy everything you hold dear."

Behind him, Peggy and Bucky exchanged a look of frustration. The creature's power seemed to grow with each passing moment, and every attempt to drive it back felt like delaying the inevitable. Yet Steve's resolve never wavered. They couldn't let this monster win, not when so many lives were at stake.

"We need more firepower, Steve!" Peggy shouted over the chaos, desperately firing more rounds into the reptile's tough hide. "At this rate, it's going to take out half the city before we even slow it down!"

Steve knew she was right. But calling for backup seemed impossible, all three of them was fighting for their lives at this point, so just getting a chance to call for help was difficult.

---------------------

Thankfully they wouldn't have to alert the Foundation to what was happening, after all the Foundation kept an eye on all social media, and had countless filters and other systems to scan and allow them to tag anything of interest.

So once the people around the battle started to livestream it and talk about it, either online or just to their loved ones, the Foundation quickly found out about it.

All the way over in France, in SITE-644, a bored man was just sitting doing his job. Watching anything the in his own mind, far too sensitive systems for anything that was tagged. Day in and day out, he watched worthless stuff and listened in on pointless calls just because something that was mentioned sounded like something else and triggered the system.

So today, he had expected more of the same, yet suddenly he got a large influx of tasks, and he wasn't the only one; all around the crowded office, the same thing was happening. He quickly clicked his way in. and found himself watching a livesteam.

As the livestream flashed onto the screen of the Foundation operator in France, the sheer chaos of the scene became apparent immediately. The feed came from a civilian—likely an onlooker who had caught sight of the monstrous SCP-682 during its rampage. The camera, shaky and poorly framed at first, eventually settled enough to show the battle between the giant reptile and the trio of heroes desperately trying to contain it.

The streamer, a young man in his mid-twenties, could be heard frantically narrating the scene in Japanese, his voice a mix of awe, fear, and excitement. "Holy crap! You guys seeing this? What is that thing? It's like… some kind of Godzilla!" His words were rushed, breathless, as the camera zoomed in on SCP-682 swiping its tail, smashing through buildings and sending debris flying in all directions.

The comments on the livestream began flooding in:

"Is that some kind of movie shoot? No way that's real."

"Bro, get out of there! It's too dangerous!"

"Wait, is that Captain America??!"

The camera panned quickly, catching a glimpse of Steve Rogers, shield in hand, deflecting another one of SCP-682's monstrous strikes. "That's Captain America! I'm telling you, that's him!" the streamer shouted, disbelief and excitement mixing in his voice. "And the others—they're fighting it too!"

The livestream continued to show Bucky, dodging SCP-682's massive claws, unloading his weapon into the creature's tough hide, while Peggy fired at its weak spots, trying to slow it down. But the creature just seemed to grow stronger with every second.

"Look at that thing! It's not even hurt! How is it not hurt?!"

At one point, SCP-682 turned its gaze directly at the camera, and the streamer audibly gasped. "Oh my god, it's looking right at me." The camera shook violently, the livestreamer's panic clear as he struggled to backpedal away. The viewers could hear the tension in his breath, along with the growing realization that the thing on the screen wasn't a part of some movie or a simulation—it was all too real.

More comments flowed in, turning from skepticism to outright fear:

"This is no movie, man! Get out of there!"

"That thing's gonna kill you!"

"Call the police!"

The operator at SITE-644 watched as the stream continued to pick up viewership—thousands tuning in, some laughing at the absurdity, others posting frantic messages in all caps, warning the streamer to flee the scene. SCP-682's massive form dominated the background, and the more it thrashed, the more the destruction spread.

The Foundation's operator, realizing the growing exposure, immediately tagged the situation for escalation. It wouldn't be long before more eyes at the Foundation became involved. What had started as a live stream for entertainment had quickly turned into a dangerous public broadcast of an ongoing SCP containment breach.

The streamer's voice came through again, breathless and panicked. "I—I have to move—this thing's getting closer—oh no, it's coming this way!!" The feed cut out abruptly as the camera dropped, leaving only the chaotic sounds of the battlefield—gunfire, roaring, and crumbling buildings—before going silent.

Back at SITE-644, the operator wasted no time. Yet even then he was clearly a step slower then someone else, as the stream's chat had died, and only the Foundation could currently watch, to the rest of the world the stream would appear offline.

This allowed them to see what was happening, while stopping the rest of the world from figuring out what was happening. He himself had been too slow, the scene had been too shocking, which likely meant another handful of people managed to see what was happening before someone else did something.

Lightly cursing himself for the mistake, he quickly went back to work; there were countless calls, videos, and pictures as well as streams that needed to be dealt with.

------------------

Back in Japan, the local SITE, SITE-400 was quickly notified of the situation, and they were also quick to realize, that as a class 3 SITE they didn't have the ability to deal with something like SCP-682.

So they quickly requested that an MTF be sent to deal with the containment itself while they quickly tried to see if they could clear the area, keeping people away and from noticing what was going on, something that wouldn't be easy at all.

Already, the amount of people aware of the situation was in the tens of thousands, and that number was growing even faster than SCP-682 itself.
