Chapter 288 - Backup on standby -283

The very public appearance of a Keter class SCP naturally made its way into Alexander's ears. And so he turned in to some live footage of the situation, recorded from a drone the local SITE had sent out to keep an eye on the situation.

And well, what he saw was as exciting as it was ugly. The situation was bad, such an SCP appearing was bad enough, but to do so in such a public way was far worse than he would have hoped for.

The estimated amount of people had was affected by the situation, or having seen the object wasn't pretty. And they were still a long way away from being able to contain the object, which meant the amount of damage and number of people who would see something they shouldn't, would only grow.

Containing SCP-682 was difficult on the best of times, he wasn't given the rank of Keter for nothing. And with him being in one of the biggest cities in the world, and heading towards the center, only slightly slowed down by Steve and the others, it only made it all the more difficult.

It would take an elite MFT to contain him, and even that they would likely suffer losses as well, not to mention that they would need some heavy equipment to be able to deal enough damage to immobilize the object.

Alexander was thankful that they had the new Ironsuits, their own little army of superheroes. However, to use them now… would surely reveal them to the world; even if they could keep the masses in the dark, the people in power would find ways to know the truth of this.

And Alexander didn't want them to know about the tools available to the Foundation. In particular he didn't want them to know about the suits, especially not Tony stark.

If he was to know about them having his technology, he might do something stupid, and it would really be a shame if he ended up like Hanky Pym.

So he needed something else, some other way of dealing with 682 that didn't involve something he didn't something want the world to know about. Which really limited him.

As Alexander continued to watch the footage, his mind raced through possibilities. The Foundation had the resources, but how to deploy them without blowing their cover? He needed to think carefully. He couldn't afford to let SCP-682 ravage Tokyo unchecked, but nor could he afford to tip his hand too much to the rest of the world.

He turned to the communications panel, ready to mobilize a plan. It was time to bring in more tactical minds to solve this puzzle—before the situation spiraled completely out of control.

--------------------

Tokyo was aflame with sounds. Disaster alarms were blearing, be it earthquake or air alarms. Everything was going off; people were fleeing in a panic. Some knew they were running from a large monster. Others had no real idea of what was going on.

But they fled all the same.

Within one of the now empty skyscrapers, a group of people dressed in futuristic mechanical suits stood and looked out the windows. The tech in their helmets allowed them to clearly see what was happening a great distance away from them.

Down on the ground, and a good five hundred meters away from the building they were within, they could see SCP-682 and three people fighting.

However, it was more SCP-682 angrily trying to kill the three of them, while the enhanced people jumped around and managed to avoid getting killed by the enraged lizard.

"Any update yet?" One of the people asked, the voice, distorted by the mask was male.

"Still asked to be on standby; someone else is coming to handle things; we aren't to show ourselves." Someone else answered.

The first figure grunted, clearly frustrated. "Doesn't make sense. With these suits, we could neutralize this thing before it gets any worse. And yet we're just... watching." His hand clenched into a fist as he watched SCP-682 slam its tail into a building, sending debris raining down onto the street below.

Another of the armored soldiers stepped forward, watching closely as Steve barely avoided the deadly tail swipe from the reptile. "The suits could handle it," he said, voice tinged with confidence. "We wouldn't even be in danger. So there must be something else in play here."

"It's a possibility." the second soldier responded. "There could be someone, or something behind this, something we might be waiting for to show itself."

The soldiers in their sleek, futuristic suits stared out the window at the escalating chaos below. They were trained for this, built for it even, but their orders were to wait. As SCP-682 wreaked havoc, their frustration grew, watching the trio of heroes struggle against the monster.

"I wish we could go out and do something." The first man growled. "I don't like this sitting around at a time like this."

Though he might curse and complain, he didn't even for a moment think about doing anything they weren't ordered to do. They were trained to obey orders, even if they couldn't understand them.

Down below SCP-682 lashed its tail, slamming into a nearby building, sending debris raining down on the already devastated streets. Steve raised his shield, protecting himself from the shrapnel, while Peggy and Bucky fired off desperate rounds into the reptile's hardened skin.

"They are doing pretty well, underprepared as they are." Another person finally spoke up, changing the subject back down to the fighting.

The battle raged on as Steve, Peggy, and Bucky stood their ground against SCP-682. Each of them, battered but resolute, fought with everything they had, knowing the stakes were far greater than just this city. They had to contain the monster before it reached more civilians.

SCP-682 roared, swinging its tail like a wrecking ball. The ground shook with every step the creature took, and the air was thick with dust and debris. Steve blocked an incoming swipe with his shield, the force sending vibrations down his arm.

Bucky was quick to react, using his powerful mechanical arm to grab a large piece of debris, hurling it at the beast. The impact barely fazed SCP-682, but it bought him enough time to close the distance. With a primal yell, Bucky swung his arm like a hammer, landing a devastating blow on SCP-682's jaw. The shockwave rippled through the creature, causing it to momentarily reel back.

"That all you got?" Bucky growled, his arm smoking slightly from the force of the hit. SCP-682 snarled in response, already shaking off the attack as if it were nothing.

Peggy, meanwhile, darted around the battlefield with the agility granted by the White Tiger amulet. Her movements were fluid, swift, and precise. She leaped from debris to debris, evading the massive tail strikes with ease. Using the heightened reflexes and speed the amulet gave her, she fired her guns in quick succession, aiming for the creature's eyes and joints—anywhere that seemed vulnerable.

"Steve!" Peggy shouted, flipping through the air as SCP-682 turned its attention to her. "We need to find a weak spot—something it can't regenerate fast enough to recover from!"

Steve nodded, his mind racing. "We'll have to create one," he muttered, glancing at Bucky, who was still landing powerful strikes with his metal arm, trying to slow the creature down. "Bucky, can you get its attention?"

"Consider it done," Bucky grunted, diving toward SCP-682 and slamming his mechanical arm into the creature's side again. This time, the blow caused a visible dent in its thick hide. SCP-682 roared in fury, its focus now squarely on Bucky.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Steve sprinted forward. With SCP-682 locked onto Bucky, Steve aimed for the exposed section of the creature's throat. He leaped, shield raised, and slammed it down with all his might onto the soft, vulnerable flesh just beneath the beast's jaw. The shield connected with a thunderous clang.

SCP-682 shrieked, its head snapping back in pain. For the first time since the fight began, the creature looked genuinely hurt.

Peggy, always quick on her feet, used the moment to launch herself off a nearby piece of rubble, flipping gracefully through the air. She landed on SCP-682's back, running along its spine while firing at the exposed part of its neck.

The combined force of Steve's shield and Peggy's relentless gunfire caused SCP-682 to stagger, thrashing violently as it tried to shake them off.

"You've got its attention now!" Bucky yelled, diving away just in time as the creature lashed out with a wild swipe of its tail.

Peggy flipped off SCP-682's back, landing deftly on her feet beside Steve. "It's not going down easy!" she said, her voice breathless but determined.

"We're not finished yet," Steve replied, his shield raised again. "We keep hitting it until it stays down."

SCP-682's eyes burned with fury, but there was a flicker of something else—a brief moment of hesitation. Despite its overwhelming power, the beast was feeling the pressure, and that was all the opening they needed.

"Now!" Steve shouted. "Hit it with everything you've got!"

Bucky charged in from one side, slamming his metal fist into SCP-682's jaw again, while Peggy unleashed a rapid barrage of bullets, aiming for the creature's eyes and throat. Steve leaped forward once more, driving his shield into SCP-682's vulnerable neck, determined to keep the pressure on.

With a final, deafening roar, SCP-682 staggered, its massive form shaking as it struggled to regain its footing. But the combined force of the trio's relentless assault was finally taking its toll.

The monster fell to one knee, its body trembling, but it was not yet defeated.

Back inside the tower, everyone was impressed at their fighting, not many could handle something like SCp-682, even they were only this calm due to their suits.

"Seems like the backup is here. Orders are to be ready to act." The leader said once again, and everyone looked out. Seeing a yet arriving in the air above the momentarily downed and something or someone falling down towards the lizard.
