After the incident, Mateo and Chantal were unable to continue their conversation from last night because he had already driven his parents home and left the girl at the mansion.
Chantal took a quick shower to rinse even her thought and changed into her robes.
Chantal hugged herself and looked at the view from the balcony. 'Even though the mansion was not bad, if this was how spacious this was, I'll be overcome by sadness.'
'It would be fine if we had a child, but he bought it just for me out of sympathy just to keep me from selling my villa not because he wanted to.'
Chantal knew that she told Mateo about how she kept all of her savings to buy that villa, so he bought her a new one as a gift out of sympathy, but Chantal don't get it.
'Why should he buy something like this? Our relationship was still legally binding.'
Chantal locked the sliding door and lay down on her bed, since it was a rent-free place, she decided to invite her two friends Jurelle and Joanna.
They both agreed to it and insisted on cleaning their room even though Chantal said it was fine. However, they won't be with Chantal until sometime next week as they still had a problem with their apartment's rent to resolve.
Chantal dozed to sleep thinking about what she would do, and as she woke up she felt heavy in between her chest. She couldn't help but think that she was married that quickly.
Chantal simply cleared her head before getting ready for work. She took a bath. After all, she knew she would be late even though Chantal was up early, because there were no significant documents need to be submitted.
Just the presentation and talking points that she'll make in front of the board need to be her main emphasis.
Chantal finished and changed into her clothes, a pencil skirt, 2-inch high heels, and a puffy long-sleeve.
She thought about having lunch when Chantal went through the kitchen to get some water, something drew her attention.
A breakfast included fried hot dogs, bacon, toasted bread, and a—note.
"Eat something before you leave, Mrs. Harris. — Husband."
Chantal thought that Mateo was quite considerate, so after reading this, she simply laughed, placed her bags on the side of the chair, and took her time enjoying this classic meal.
Chantal took the letter placed beside the breakfast and placed it on the page of the book she was carrying after finishing her meal and setting the plates on the sink.
Chantal walked straight to the front entrance of the mansion, where her gorgeous car was waiting.
Chantal doesn't yet have a license, it's still legal because she only uses this for business and short travels inside the same city.
Chantal got to work, she was a little enthusiastic since she knew she would perform well in the presentation that would take place the following week. However, as she got into the elevator, her phone unexpectedly rang.
'A message from Mateo,' Chantal looked at her phone confused, and clicked the inbox.
[How did your sleep go? Did you eat the food I made you?]
Chantal chuckled foolishly and asked herself. "Was he for real?"
Chantal didn't get the chance to send him a message back because the elevator suddenly opened. Chantal was greeted by the employee she crosses paths with as she smiled at them.
She immediately went to her office and responded to his message there as well.
[Thanks for the food.]
Chantal sat on her chair and also started getting anxious about the presentation for the approaching business that they had to close.
Chantal's team entered the room and we got back to business as usual, their lives began to return to normal.
Mateo was at their business, while Chantal was theirs.
Her team was busy yesterday working on a few recommendations that they would soon present to the board, including share extensions and the introduction of a new plane component.
Chantal had kept track of how many times she had to repeat the previous section. Additionally, she wasn't happy with the work she was doing. It doesn't seem warm and inviting to her.
They continued to discuss their work when they heard a quick knock at the door.
Chantal was in the middle of preparing a presentation for the board. Because it was crucial for the business and this was her chance to impress her parents.
Chantal paid little mind and concentrated more on what she was doing and didn't know who step inside her office.
"Chantal, could you give me a moment?" The familiar voice stopped Chantal from what she was doing and cold sweat appeared on her palms.
She walked slowly as she approached her father while asking, "Coffee? Tea?"
"No, I'll get into it since I am here..." He said, looking all serious.
Chantal merely stared at him without saying a word.
Roman let out a sigh and said, "You'll be working under Mateo starting the following week."
"Huh? I've got a proposal due next week, and it wouldn't be right to put my team in a precarious situation, so I can't, dad."
"They'll be OK, I'm sure of it," Roman spoke without taking notice of what Chantal said.
"Just do it for yourself and the business, please." Roman held Chantal's head and kissed her hair.
Chantal nodded with a heavy heart and Roman smiled at her. When the old man left, she went to her office's window to observe this bustling city.
Chantal was furious. After almost a year in the business industry, she still hasn't received a single proposal because the board wouldn't let her handle any project because of the reason she lose a billion-dollar deal.
Chantal wiped her cheeks as tears began to fall.
Chantal heard her phone ring and looked at her phone and ended up seeing Mateo calling. Chantal tasted something bitter on her tongue and ignored the call.
Chantal was in awe when someone suddenly knock on her door and when she let that someone in it was Claudia, Chantal's vice leader.
"We're eating lunch together, Miss. Would you like to come along?" Claudia asked Chantal.
Chantal was not sure if it would benefit her, but she know that she need some time for herself so that she could face them when they had a meeting later today.
"No, thank you. Please just return before our meeting begins, alright?" Chantal spoke, but she didn't look at her; instead, Chantal was only aware of the door's abrupt closing.
Chantal's tears won't stop flowing she simply couldn't accept that a mistake caused them to lose faith in her.
Chantal understands that her father didn't make that decision, and perhaps it was for her benefit. The reason for her to be sent to work under Mateo.
Chantal knew it was not that bad she take a deep breath and tried to calm herself, trying to distract herself from her negative thoughts and find some relief.
Chantal once again wiped the tears that wet her cheeks while looking out the window, "I'll just go along with them if that's what they want."
"For the benefit of their praises, I'll swallow this pride of mine."
