Why is a common question that is asked every day but an overly complicated question that plagues every aspect of life: the why in why we live, why we sing, why we work, and why we love. There are always inherent reasons why we do anything.
We may sing to attract others or play guitar to impress the family. While others will become passionate about the art of music, needing no other reason than enjoyment and fulfillment to continue their passion for music. However, these distinct divides between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation do not exist in the human psyche. Is the passionate musician performing onstage for his music still intrinsically motivated, or is he now extrinsically motivated?
The question is void. The answer is both: no matter how self-motivated we are, we still desire validation as social creatures. Is it wrong ? not inherently.
However, while we have discussed motivation, we have ignored the answer to the question, "Why?" Why do we do anything? We are evolved apes scarping at the wall of the universe screaming, asking for a reason to live, too smart to be ignorant yet too dumb to realize we are not given meaning; we create it. To recognize that we have the ultimate decision, the decision of existence, the decision of purpose, and the decision of how to live; we, and only us, can make those decisions, and literally, no one else can give your life meaning besides you. Is that not scary to rely entirely upon and blame yourself?
Life is what you make of it. There was a 1 in 10^2,685,000 chance of you coming into existence and being given around 75 years of life to do anything with; your sandbox. So "why do anything" why not? Do whatever brings happiness and value to your life, no matter how small or insignificant it may appear. However, I implore you not to fall into the traps of escapism and nihilism, as such will only bring suffering and pain to what could be an otherwise beautiful life.
