Chapter 1 - DATE: ??/??/????

I awoke.

...

.....

There was nothing or no one around me. It suddenly struck me that I neither knew who I was nor how to speak. I knew nothing, I knew not how to think, I was belittled at my environment, pungent odors filled my nostrils as I coughed in disgust, the buildings in my environment had fallen and crumbled, only a few still stood erect… although large bits of them had fallen, trash piles everywhere and polluted water surrounding the trash bags, flies and insects everywhere. Cobwebs and bacteria gathered and scattered all over, as far as my eyes could see.

I struggled to stand; my body did not agree with me and I felt as though my energy was sapped from my body. I pulled my legs in an attempt to walk, only to fall, not because I had no strength, but because I had forgotten how to walk. It took some time before my body agreed to move again, I stood again, this time I put one leg before the other, and somehow managed to walk. I walked for a long while, hoping to find someone or something. There was no life on the hot surface, and although clouds of air pollution covered the sky and made it colorless, it was surely hotter than a desert. The sky had changed from a colorless noon into a sickening sunset. I grew wearier and wearier with each passing moment.

There was a tall building, there was not much pollution around it, and the building itself was in fairly good condition. Unlike other buildings, this one looked stable and capable of carrying human weight. I walked into the building; some sort of thick clothes stood on the shelf. At the time the only thing I could think of was hunger, I had no idea that was what the feeling was called but, I wanted to get rid of it. I grabbed the things on the shelves and began gnawing on them. They tasted of dust and grime with a bit of vanilla and rotting wood, I was too hungry to notice. After a few minutes of gnawing and tearing the sheets off, I felt satisfied. I then realized those clothes had their sheets glued together. They were named 'books.' Afterward, I eventually learned to read.

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months into four years. I had finished nearly all the books in the building. I could say there were as many as 2053 books. I eventually caught sight of a note. It was never there before, that I was sure of. On the note, it was written;

Please save us

----Humanity.

There were drawings of a boat and other items at the back of the note. It seemed weird at first. I was surprised because other people apart from me existed. I wondered where the letter had been all this while and in such good condition. If people needed saving, then there were places to be.
