Chapter 3 - Direction

It was daytime and under a clear sky, surrounded by hills and a vast plain in front of him, August stood outside a cave and took a prolonged look at his surroundings. Finally, after sorting himself out, he could now have some semblance of a plan going forward.

"*Beep* Analysis complete. Master August as you requested I have finished optimizing the Wind Sorcery: Wind Blade," Rhea said.

"That's wonderful, good work Rhea. Now I should be able to perform this Sorcery three times!"August smiled. Ryncol suffered grievous injuries at the hands of some wind wolves because with his Spirit points reaching 7, the Sorcery: Wind Blade that he learned from the wandering sorcerer required 5 points to cast which meant that he could perform it once.

From the memory fragments, he was able to use the spell once and due to his poor combat experience, he could only kill one magic beast before suffering attacks from another wind wolf. However, with the help of Rhea's abilities, knowledge gained from the memory fragments and the only Sorcery in his arsenal were able to provide the necessary requirements to improve the wind blade as much as he could at the moment.

"After Rhea recalibrated the available database, the range of my spell has increased to 10 meters and it takes five seconds less to cast and deals more damage!" August was satisfied with the result. He also noticed that the available slots were still 0/4 which meant that he had the chance to extract 4 more elemental affinities apart from his original affinity which was the wind element! However, although he had wind affinity, Rhea explained to him back in the cave that his affinity with the wind element was only as low as 5% which meant that his Sorcery could barely improve!

August decided to deal with that issue later and started heading northwards. He was currently in the Mallevian Region which encompassed a total area of 239,460 square kilometres and was found in the Eastern part of the Sorcerer continent. It was filled with highlands and fertile soil with a windy climate. In this region, one could find many human settlements that were part of the Elvira Kingdom to the north and the Xylia Kingdom to the south of the Mallevian region and they were in constant conflict with each other. The two kingdoms were ruled over by Sorcerer clans which were the Brander and Cadogan clans respectively and they were known for their first-rank Sorcerers.

As one would guess, these Sorcerers, in order to improve their rank, needed knowledge and resources, among them being a Sorcerer Tower that would be able to support their constant meditation, by channelling a large amount of elemental energy for their use.

Apart from that, they needed rank 0 Sorcerers to complete certain tasks and gather some resources in order to save some time, and hence, the Sorcerer tower was filled with many of them. August was heading to the nearest tower right on the border of the Elvira Kingdom which belonged to the Great Sorcerer Phelan of the Brander Clan.

He believed that in order to achieve his current goal of becoming a first-rank sorcerer, he would need to join a Sorcerer tower in order to gain the resources and knowledge of the Sorcerer world he would have no chance of accessing as a wandering Sorcerer.

After 3 hours of journey, August almost reached the Elviran territory when he heard an explosion

"There seems to be a battle going on up ahead. Maybe I can see what is going on," August thought.

*Boom*

The sounds of spells clashing

"Ophelia, don't go in there rashly! I'll distract the one of wind wolves with my vine sorcery and then you will attack the other one!"

A young man of about 17 years, with short brown hair, wearing a dark green robe shouted. The person he was referring to was a young girl with long brown hair who was wearing leather armour and holding a longsword and she nodded in response.

Directly facing them were two wind wolves-magic beasts with greenish-white fur and green, bloodthirsty eyes staring menacingly at them. Not able to contain their urge to attack, the wolves rushed across the grassy plains as they lunged towards their 'prey'.

Rank 0 Vine sorcery: Crawling vines!

The vines emerged from ground around the ground beside the dark green-robed young man and coiled around the bodies of the wind wolves but this outcome was shortlived as a greenish light could be seen covering the claw of the wolves as they slashed apart the vines that were restricting them with wind elemental energy.

However, the wind wolves barely managed to cut their way out of the vines when a figure swiftly closed in on them with a longsword wrapped in flame a delivered a thrusting blow towards one of them

Rank 0 Fire Sorcery: Fire Arrow!

A piercing sound rang out as a wind wolf suffered a direct hit from the attack and had a longsword pierced right through its skull and its body suffered from the fire damage. However, the leather-armored young woman was attacked by the other wind wolf from her right and so she used her sword to block the attack.

Aaargh!!

The girl in the leather armour was swept away by the attack and although she raised her sword to block the physical attack she still couldn't handle the wind claw attack of the wind wolf and her shoulder was wounded pretty badly.

"Ophelia!"

The young man couldn't help but scream in anxiety but his expression was pale as he had used up a lot of Spirit to cast his initial attack and hence couldn't rush in to save her and he looked on in despair. The wind wolf was about to launch a killing blow when it saw a wind blade flash towards it from from the corner of its eye.

Its instincts screamed danger but it was too late as the wind blade slashed its body into two. The young man and woman had expressions of shock on their faces as the wind wolves that they fought so hard to defeat were handled by a very fast and powerful wind sorcery

Who could it be?

It didn't take long for them to find out as it was a young man in a tattered robe, with blond hair and golden eyes who walked towards them with a calm expression on his face

"Hey there comrades, I'm August. May I know who you are?"
