The funeral was packed. Gwen's dad had made many friends because of his occupation as a doctor. Gwen was exhausted from all the people she had to accept condolences from.
When Gwen got home , she threw herself on the couch . She was tired and just wanted to rest. Bain had been coming by often lately. He was buying groceries , paying bills , taking them to school...he was playing the parent-role.
Louis was young but he was smart. He didn't ask questions and tried his best to act like nothing was missing but Gwen knew this had affected him alot.
As days went by , Gwen felt idle. She felt like she wasn't helping much and she didn't want Bain to feel burdened although she knew he wasn't. She decided to go to Bain's house and ask him to help her out with a job.
She put her hand out to knock the door but it was already open. Gwen walked in and she found his house was a hot mess. It looked like a fight had taken place. Gwen had to keep herself alert as she walked up the stairs. There were shards of broken glass on the floor and she was careful not to step on them . She tried to be as quiet as possible but she shrieked when a loud noise cut through the air. It sounded like a gun shot . Then it sounded again and again and again. Gwen panicked and ran to the room upstairs. She'd already lost her dad , she couldn't lose Bain too but the scene that welcomed her left her speechless. Bain was standing over a dead body. The man was covered in blood and despite the fact that he wasn't moving , Bain kept shooting. Blood splattered around and Bain didn't even bat an eye. His face neither bore emotion nor humanity. Gwen's mouth fell open and her body shook.
" B...Bain." She called out to him and he turned to her. His face slowly showed his shock. He didnt want Gwen to see this but it was too late. He picked up a cloth and wiped the blood from his face and hands but his cloths were soaked .
" Let's talk downstairs. " Bain led her to his living room. " Don't be afraid of what you saw. It was just... business."
Gwen swallowed. " What do you do for a living exactly, Bain? "
" You don't need to know that . It's not safe for you." Bain fixed the gun in his hand in the back of his trouser.
" I need a job." Gwen stiffened her shaking voice. " I want to work with you ."
Bain's brows furrowed. " Never. Don't even think about it." Bain was angry but that didn't move Gwen.
" You know me. I won't let you out of my sight till you agree." Gwen saw Bain clutching his fist hard . He was clearly furious but Gwen was equally determined. She had no idea what she was getting into and she didn't know what got into her.
" No. " Bain took out his phone. " I'll get someone to take you home. "
" Please Bain. " Gwen couldn't stop talking. Part of her was afraid but the greater part of her was excited.
" I'll think about it." Bain said this with a heavy heart. He knew how stubborn she was. If he didn't answer her , she would follow him around . He didn't want her to get into trouble so it was best to keep her close.
A few months later and after loads of pleading, Bain finally gave in. He let her join his gang. He called it ' the pack of wolves' . Every gang member had to get a wolf tattoo. Gwen didn't like tattoos but she had to get one. She didn't want to put it where her family , especially her mom could see so she had it tattooed under her breast. It hurt like crap .
Bain always kept her close. He always made sure she was in sight. And slowly by slowly, he started to loosen his grip. Gwen started with small jobs. She either tagged along when they were going to threaten someone ( but she was mostly told to stay in the car).
After some more months , she could use a gun . Infact she'd become very skilled in such a short time. Bain even made sure she learnt some fighting to protect herself.
" Here. It's a gift. " Bain tossed her a brand new gun. Gwen smiled as she held it . Bain looked at her excited face.
" I pray you'll never have to use it. " Bain sighed. " This isn't the place for you. " Bain didn't want to get Gwen into trouble. He loved her and he considered her family.
Whether she liked it or not , her life had changed and there was no going back. She decided not to tell her mom. It would only make her worry. She only told Leo .
Alec stood by his office window and looked at the lit up streets. He'd dropped Gwen home ( his home) and returned to his office. He had a glass of whiskey in his hand. He was thinking about what Gwen had told him . She was opening up to him and this meant he mattered to her. This made him warm on the inside.
" She poured her heart out to you." Richard spoke from Alec's office chair. " She's a special one. " He had his feet up on Alec's desk and he seemed at home.
" What do you want , Richard ? I'm not in the mood to argue today. " Alec spoke with his back to him .
" Oh come on. Is that the way to talk to your brother? "
