Chapter 18
The following day, Angela resumes school and as soon as she did, she subconsciously used her eyes to search for Leo. He had been on her mind all this while and all she hopes and longed for was to just set eyes on him, she knows it isn't asking for too much. He's when Kate after all, even though she hasn't fully accept it.
She scanned through the school in hope that she would lay eyes on him, but she didn't and with a look of disappointment on her face, she walked sluggishly to her class and lectures commence almost immediately, in hope that he would come to class and she would see him then.
So far, she was excited about being back in school but the thought that Leo wasnt constantly creeped into her mind.
While the teachers were teaching, all she did was look out the door to see if he was coming or if he would step foot into the classroom any time from then.
She waited and hoped in vain but he never showed up
She was anxious and nervous as she wanted to see him again - she longed to
Throughout the numerous classes they've had, one can say she was as good as lost, and probably should have just sat at home, because all she did was think about him and fill her head with thoughts of him. it was hard for her to concentrate and even pay attention.
Her mind was distracted and so was her body
Even someone that wasn't in school that day was far better than her.
She didn't want to accept the fact that he wasn't in school just yet, and so, when the bell for break was rang, she hurriedly got up and rushed to the cafeteria with her friends, in hope that she would see him there.
Perhaps, he wanted to skip classes for the day and had opted out on it all, so maybe he would be there at the cafeteria, she thought and hoped as she anxiously went with her friends
They all got I. to meet other students already in the place.
Some were already seated in groups with their snacks or meals in front of them, while some were just about to go get theirs, and there were others that were just coming in...like herself and her friends.
Quickly, her eyes scanned through the crowd in hope she would be able to get a glimpse of Leo.
She didn't want to believe he wasn't in school.
She held unto this fact for a while as she searched for several minutes.
Her friends had to rap her to move along with them to go get their snacks, when she wasn't moving but standing.
She was lost in a world of her own and didn't even know what's going on around her.
Her friends had long gone to the counter to get their meals. when she saw she was standing all alone, looking lost and feeling like an outcast, she proceeded to where they were and together they took their snacks and located a table closeby
Placing their snacks on it, they sat down too and started munching right away, making sure to start up a conversation right up, as it was the only time they have to really talk as they would like to.
They talked on and on about alot of things which was of no interest whatsoever to Angela, all she was interested in was seeing Leo, and that's exactly what she did
She focused her attention on the door, as she had already scanned through the cafeteria carefully, but there was still no sign of him.
The bell rang out soon, indicating the end of recess.
Each student hurriedly went back to their various classes to take the last classes for the day.
Angela's mood has changed completely as she had now truly realised Leo wasnt in school.
It took her long enough to realize it, but she later did and somehow, it didn't come as a surprise to her, because she should have known, right from the moment she stepped into school and couldn't find him and when they had the morning classes and he want present.
What was she even thinking? she slapped her head as she asked herself this question.
The rest of the classes were as boring to her as the others. She just had to cope and bear with it, as she patiently awaits the closing bell.
Grrh grrhh. The bell for the last class rang and immediately the class turned rowdy, with each student trying to find their way out of the class.
At last, it was the end of school for that day.
Everyone was excited to go home, and you could tell from the way their countenances changed immediately the bell was rang.
Noise, shouts and screams filled the air and atmosphere immediately.
The hallway was now very crowdy and noisy and it was almost impossible to pass through, they had to struggled and shoved their way through, as a result of the population of the school
Angela on the other hand, looked round the class for the upteenth time with a ridiculously worried look on her face.
She was drained with worry as she watched every one, but Leo was nowhere to be found.
It was the last class and he still didn't attend it....He still was nowhere to be found
No she was more than she...he seriously didn't come.
But why?
She asked herself again.
This made her more worried as she thought of what the problem could be.
Out of worry and frustration, she turned to Debbie, having no other choice than to ask her why he wasn't in school. Perhaps she would know, she reasoned.
" Uhm, Debbie, do you maybe know why Leo isn't present in school today?" she asked in a calm tone complimenting the subtle look on her face.
Debbie's face creeped confusion which suddenly turned to a smile and then a teasing stare.
Angela knew at once what the face was for. she was obviously teasing her, not that she finds it funny
Not that it was funny though, she's desperate and needed answers, that's what she wants eight now, not the teasing and all that Debbie was giving her.
She initially felt like cussing at her but kicked against it, as she hope she would have something tangible to say to her...at least
" Why are you looking for him.i can't believe after all that happen you're still looking for him?" Debbie rasped
"Why are you asking after him when you're supposed to be happy that he isn't in school" Debbie asked with confusion laced in her tone, but Angela seemed to care less about that and still seem so bothered, she didn't care about what Debbie had said, although it was the truth.
" Are you gonna tell me the reason or not?" she asked adamantly, as she insisted to know why Leo wasnt in school
Taking a deep breath, with a calm sigh, Debbie decided to give her friend an answer as it was very obvious that's what she wants
"Well...I'll just tell you what I know. He hasn't being in school since the week you were in the hospital" she informed Angela
This only made Angela more worried an she couldn't hide it anymore
" Oh! What could be the problem. I wonder why he has been absent from school. This is so unlike him" Angela couldn't hide her worry and decided to show it
" Huh! Look who's acting all worked up over a guy, don't tell me you've fallen in love with him - Your bully?" Debbie asked , while teasing her with an infectious smile
Angela simply shrugged her off. she quickly packed her books and other belongings into her bag and left the classroom with anger, heading home, not even bothering to wait for her friends, which is so unlike her and very unusual
They all stared dumbfoundedly at her , as they only seemed to ask the questions on their mind, which happned to be the same thing
To say they were amazed by their friends action was an understatement, it was so uncalled for and strange.
Angela fought her way through the crowd that was slowly dispersing
She just needed to get home and wasn't int he right frame of mind.
The only thing in her mind was what has been in it since she stepped foot into the school premises.
She just couldnt let her mind off it.
Finally, she finds her way through the crowd and headed for the school gate, before heading home immediately
Thoughts of why he wasn't in school still clouded her mind and thoughts as she walked home int hat scorchey sun, which was enough to melt a humans blood, not to talk about the way it burned into her skin and shone brightly on it.
The sun was superlatively high today of all days and it made her wonder if it has anything to do with her mood or earlier attitudes. she sure hopes not.
The hot sun was the least of her problems, but getting home.
After much buzzle, she got home, throwing her bag across to the couch in the living room, she hopped to the kitchen to get a bottled water from the fridge
She opened the lid and gulped it down in one breath.
Oh!! Just what she needed. Its what she needs to calm her nerves and head, first from thinking too much about why Leo wasnt in school, and secondly from the unbelievably hot sun
Placing the can back to where she took it from, she turned swiftly and walked out the door, going back to the couch to pick up her bed.
She didn't bother to check if anyone was home, as she headed straight to her room
" Welcome back dear?" her mom's voice stopped her on the stairs.
she turned tiredly and hummed a response, before heading to her room
Getting to her room, she did the necessary things, like taking off her uniforms and placing her school materials in the right places.
When she had completely taken off her uniform, she tossed it to the bed, before picking up a towel to tie herself up with, and the walking right ahead into the kitchen
In the bathroom, she became very worried as she thought about everything again as she knows Leo cannot just miss school without a reason...there has to be a reason and she was sure there is one...one that she isn't aware of, but what could it be?
She asked herself the question she doesn't have an answer to, as she allowed the cold water run down her body, soothing her aches, calming her nerves and causing her head to cool down a bit, from all the over rhinkbg.
She was almost going mad from thinking about it too much.
As the water runs through her body, all she could do was think about him. After pondering on it for quite sometime, she decided to go to his home and check if anything was wrong with his family again
She had to make sure, and the only way to do that was to go to his house and find out about it...find out what's going on and put an end to this ceaseless thinking of hers.
She had to make sure everything was right with him, that's the only way she knows and that's the only way she knows she would be able to stay calm
With this thought on her mind and a msile on her face, she stopped the running water, and tied the towel rou d her body again, before stepping out of the bathroom.
She quickly dressed up and did everything she had to do. She wore a simple dress and packed her hair in a messy bun, taking one last look at herself in the mirror, she stepped out of her room, going to find answers.
