Chapter 10 - Ramla's scheme

"Nothing kills me." Cairo scoffed as he looked up at her still not believing what she just said.

"Why not let that time come and see if it kills you or not. For now you should use your head so you won't be caught." Kissa replied as she picked the scroll next to her bed.

"You still didn't tell me why you're helping me." Cairo turned his back to leave.

"It's simply called returning a favour." Kissa replied before stepping down her bed to her harp which was already on the balcony.

"A favour?" Cairo asked as he turned back to look at her but she wasn't replying to him again.

She left him there and started playing her harp and Cairo couldn't help but smile to the melodious tune she was playing.

The gentle breeze lifted her hair as she struck each string with her eyes closed. Suddenly, she became stiff and fell on her back.

Cairo rushed over to her, forgetting the warning she gave about stepping up the stairs. Cairo knelt next to her and gathered her in his arms.

He noticed the eye of Horus and eye of Ra around her eyes glowing but they immediately stopped and she opened her eyes.

He placed her gently on the bed and she placed her hands on her forehead.

"You stepped up." Kissa sighed as she turned to look at him. "Do you have a death wish? But gladly, it didn't seem to hate you."

"What do you mean?" He asked as he stepped down the stairs.

"Well, anywhere I sleep is sacred and no man must climb. I don't know why but all those who have did not live for long." Kissa said as she took the cup of water next to her bed and sipped it.

"And you didn't search more on the reason why?" Cairo raised his brows in disbelief.

"There's no book about Sorceresses as you all call it in the whole of Egypt. It is pretty annoying." Kissa sighed as she rested back.

A knock on the door distracted them and Cairo fell on his knees with heads bowed as Ramla and Sabola stepped into the room with trays of food for Kissa.

"You can leave Cairo." Kissa waved her hands and Cairo stood up to leave the room.

He met gazes with Ramla who blushed a bit when she stared at him.

Kissa seemed to notice that but she just shook her head as she sat up to eat.

"Are you okay Lady Kissa? You seem pale." Sabola asked in concern as she served Kissa her food.

"I am fine thank you Sabola." Kissa nodded as she started to eat the food on the plate with her. "Which one of you is going off tonight?"

"It is Ramla and the two guards. High Lady Lapis has arranged two guards to stay all night; those two are on leave." Sabola explained.

"When will you be going off Sabola?" Kissa asked, confused.

"Tomorrow Lady Kissa. I have to go see the village priest with my mother tomorrow." Sabola replied and Kissa nodded before going silent.

Night quickly set in and those having their nights off left. Kissa had been indoors all day, still looking pale.

She sat on her bed thinking about the vision she had. It wasn't like her normal ones. All she saw was darkness in the vision.

As she looked down, she saw both her hands tied with golden shackles around her wrists, leading into the darkness.

"Lady Kissa, do you need anything?" Sabola asked but she shook her head negatively.

In the servants quarters, there was life in the whole place. Almost half of the palace workers were having the night off.

The servants quarters was located at a far edge of the palace. Unlike the other part of the palace that had gold in them, the servants quarters didn't. It was just made like a normal large house.

Cairo and the guard he was on stand with walked into the quarters. Different guards were drinking and chattering. Ladies were also chatting, some with the guards, either making out or just talking.

"I thought all maids in the palace were virgins." Cairo asked, referring to those making out.

"Well not all of them." He replied before going to join the other men drinking and chatting.

Some of the ladies looked at Cairo with interest. Some were whispering while others were just admiring.

"Hi Cairo." Ramla walked towards him with two cups of drink.

"Ramla am I right?" Cairo raised his brow and she giggled.

"Yes. Would you like to have a drink with me?" She asked as she handed him the other cup with her. Cairo took it and she smiled gently.

Other ladies around frowned as they saw him collect the cup of drink from her. Some of them lost hope of trying to go to him while others eyed Ramla.

"Come with me Cairo." Ramla pulled him towards the balcony as he drank half of the content of the cup.

Cairo followed her there, not suspecting anything. The balcony revealed the view of the village outside which had lights scattered around.

"So Cairo, where are you from?" Ramla asked in a seductive voice.

"Somewhere in Egypt…you…might not…know the place." Cairo replied gently feeling a bit drunk which was so unlike him.

"Oh my, what's wrong? Do you need water?" She asked as she grabbed his shoulders.

A smirk appeared on Cairo's face which she didn't see as he nodded. She pulled him down the balcony and opened a door leading into a silent passageway.

Although Cairo was really drunk, he still had a bit of sanity. He needed water to calm himself.

Ramla pushed the door at the end of the passageway open and they arrived in a room. She quickly closed the door and dropped him on the bed.

"You're sweating Cairo." She laid him well on the bed and straddled him to pull off the cloth on the upper part of his body.

"Let me help you out."
