The war settled down as Adrian and the twig blights finished off the last of the stragglers in the army, finally finishing off the last member of the lightning gang. The war was over.
"Collect the corpses, feed them to the dungeon!" Adrian shouted as the twig blights retreated back to the dungeon carrying corpses with them. They needed to return fast as their mana was running very low.
Adrian walked over to the goblin's and paused as he saw them all huddled around a few corpses on the floor. The goblins who had died valiantly fighting to protect their home.
Adrian looked towards the two towering red creatures and inspected them confused at this change.
Name: Gobby
Title: [The Protector]
Species: Goblin Blood General
Skills: [Rage] [War Cry] [Lifesteal] [Weak Lightning Resistance] [Return of the Fallen]
Combat Power: ★☆☆☆☆⑧
The two had evolved during the fight with Lei Fu and had become new species, A blood wolf, and a Goblin Blood General. Gobby's strength had increased by an entire realm now becoming even stronger than Raushan!
Adrian looked towards the dead bodies as his face became downcast, these brothers and sisters who were the first people he called friends and family since he got to this world had fallen. Even though they were a little ugly they were worthy companions.
What had started as a relationship where he could just use them as slave labor had morphed into something greater at some point. And this made the losses hurt all the more.
He noticed that one of the goblins was still breathing slightly. It was the one who had been slashed in the chest and had his wolf torn in half. His life was dissipating because his companion had been killed so he was dying with them.
"QUICKLY! Bring him to the dungeon, I will try and save him!" Adrian's thoughts raced as he began to search the DP shop for something to save the goblins' life. All the goblins had died for him so the thought of being able to save one of them was a must.
---
Surrounding a bed all of the goblins were nervous as Adrian stepped back. He had just purchased an item from the DP shop and fed it to the goblin hoping it would save him. It had cost him 5000 DP, which was a little less than half of what he had gotten from this war, but he thought it was worth it.
He purchased a [Soul Attracting Fruit], which was essentially just a fruit that was very tempting towards souls, often found in graveyards and lands of death. He wanted him to eat it in order for his soul to maintain its presence in his body thus saving his life.
As to whether it would work, he did not yet know.
After a few moments the goblin coughed as he sat up looking around.
"What is this?" he said as he looked down at his arms and touched his chest with the bandages over his deep wounds.
"Where is Greepa?" he asked about his wolf as tears welled up inside of his eyes, already knowing the answer.
The goblins looked at each other as they didn't know what to say.
"Uhm, he..." Adrian stuttered.
"WHY! WHY DID YOU SAVE ME!" He yelled as he covered his face, tears falling from his eyes. "I WAS SUPPOSED TO DIE WITH HIM!"
"Don't be like that Gabu!" Gabbie said as she frowned.
"Greepa would want you to live! Live for Greepa!" Goblette said as she tried to comfort him.
The connection between the goblin and their wolf was unique in this world, they were supposed to live and die together so continuing on without their companion was a pain one could not express to others.
"Greepa!" he said as he looked up towards the sky, pain filling his eyes. "I shall live for the both of us! I am sorry to keep you waiting, hopefully it will not be long!"
"Gabu-" Gabbie began,
"NO. Do not call me Gabu, I shall from this day forward be called WolfMourn" he said as he shakily stood up.
"Okay... WolfMourn, it is good that you have decided to continue living for Greepa" Gabbie nodded as they headed out.
Adrian was going to lead them to the graves of the fallen. All the goblins and wolves who had died in battle were inside of graves dug near the dungeon. Tears were falling down the goblins faces as they surrounded the graves.
They all stood there in silence for a while not saying anything as Adrian said lightly, "You lot have done well. I thank you!" bowing slightly to the graves in thanks.
"Your sacrifice was not in vain, we have won and our home is safe. You will not be forgotten for you are brave warriors. May you rest in peace."
The goblins all said a few things before the graves in remembrance as they cried, some of them having just lost their partners and loved ones.
"Gobble, although you always claimed to be stronger than me you still decided to kick the bucket! I figured we would both die together one day back to back, but you decided to go first. Just make sure to save me a spot up there, yeah?" Gorbin said as his eyes watered.
"Rest in peace brother, I will protect them from here on out. I swear my life on it!" Gobby said as his face was extremely firm, a sense of duty surrounding him.
The wolves all howled as the goblins were shedding a tear.
Adrian waved his hand and the bodies in the graves began to disappear into white specs before completely vanishing into nothingness. This was a special way for the dungeon to reclaim its monsters which Adrian reserved exclusively for those who were worthy.
And these goblins-
They were worthy.
