Kyoto allowed himself to be put down by the tight grasp of sleep.
When he awoke, his vision was blurry.
Around him was a silent sea of rubble. There were no signs of life. The noon sun was present.
All of Konoha had been submerged into ruin.
Since the entire landscape had been flattened, the only thing that stood up was particularly noticeable.
A demon of constantly shifting scribbles stood deafeningly. Kyoto acknowledged the scene.
In his past, right after a training match had gotten out of hand Kyoto had unknowingly activated his right mangekyou.
His head became a flaming mess.
By the time Kyoto woke in the sea of rubble, Konoha had been decimated from the ground up.
And now, a demon of scribbles stood right in the center of the crippled hidden leaf village.
It took Kyoto a moment to realize that he was looking at himself in the third person. He could see his entire body from just a few months ago.
It would seem that Kyoto had entered a rather restricted lucid dream. He was aware that he was in a dream but he could not move.
Still. Kyoto didn't understand why his brain was showing him this dream since the memory was essentially fresh.
The scribbled demon pulled its right arm up to the sky.
Like the world's forces were being yanked down slowly but surely the atmosphere vibrated intensely.
After a long instance that made the naive Kyoto who was in the current moment suffocate, the otherworldly force was pulled down.
The entire world blackened.
The Kyoto that was viewing the dream furrowed his eyebrows.
This didn't happen in the original version of events.
Before Kyoto could react he felt something getting nearer.
In the world of black, it was invisible.
Kyoto still couldn't move. It was like he had never possessed limbs in the first place.
Kyoto cursed.
He knew exactly what was heading straight for him.
Kyoto waited for a few more minutes in frustration.
What was taking so long?
And the air around Kyoto began to wear itself out.
Silence engulfed Kyoto's earbuds.
And in one sickening instant.
Dong.
A systematic shockwave rang out through Kyoto's system.
Two mortifying and constantly writhing scribbled eyes of white apparated before Kyoto instantly. The monster had been right before Kyoto for a while. They looked like they were in pain.
Since the entire world was coated in black, it had been camouflaged.
Kyoto cursed once more.
' What the hell does it want?'
The monster's eyes shut gradually. Eventually, the world of black faded away.
And when it did, Shibai Otsutsuki was standing in the ruins of Konoha. The demon implanted itself back into Kyoto's eye forcefully.
Kyoto winced as he remembered the brutal scene.
Shibai looked confused about why he had been brought back.
His eyes squinted as he reviewed his body.
It felt somewhat weaker than at his peak. Not just somewhat, but a lot.
Kyoto and Shibai met eyes briefly.
The Otsutsuki held out his hand grimly. Ready to wipe off the creature that had brought him back from frustration.
He had nothing left here.
As his hand was ready to obliterate Kyoto instantly, he found it being met with a force of equal power.
An odd entity that looked like a plethora of black scribbles with screeching eyes of white stood above him.
Although the monster out shadowed Shibai, the two were on seemingly equal ground. Of course, Shibai hadn't gotten the least bit serious.
Oddly enough, the two spoke with their eyes or in some other space.
Shibai chuckled.
"I see. So all I have to do is destroy this world?"
The monster nodded, amused.
Shibai chuckled slightly darker.
"So why can't I start with the boy?"
The monster seemed to only be able to communicate with Shibai.
Shibai tilted his head barely.
"He summoned you?"
Shibai cackled ghastly.
"So if I eliminate him, you will turn to ashes? And here I thought I met someone somewhat powerful."
Shibai's voice turned flat.
"You... you knew that I would be weakened?"
"That doesn't change a thing."
Shibai's voice went through hundreds of stages of grief. The two's conversation went all over the place.
It got to the point where the two finished their negotiations after minutes that seemed like hours.
"Do not fret. This world has no one remotely close to my level of power."
"Still, it feels strange being brought back through a method other than Karmic Resurrection."
Shibai vanished in a blink.
Kyoto cackled.
Kyoto chuckled.
Kyoto scoffed.
"I see."
He spoke madly, looking at the monster with crazed eyes.
"So all I have to do is eliminate your catalyst? And this is all over?"
Without a second of doubt, Kyoto pulled a kunai out of his side pouch hidden in his inky-black robes.
"You couldn't have made it easier."
The emotional distress of destroying a population was crashing down onto Kyoto.
Relentlessly, Kyoto pushed the kunai as hard as he could into his mangekyou sharingan.
A crazed black web of scribbles held it back.
Kyoto cursed.
"You won't stop me. I- I won't give up."
Kyoto continued pushing the kunai into his eye. Even trying various chakra interventions. But nothing worked.
Soon, noon was upturned into night.
And the tireless web of black scribbles had fended off Kyoto for hours, only getting stronger as Kyoto increased his methods.
And so Kyoto became a hypocrite that day.
Kyoto gave up.
"Why? Why did it have to be me?"
Kyoto spoke out dully and hopelessly. His eyes had lost all light.
"Why did you have to be the one who answered my question that fateful day?"
Kyoto tousled his hair dryly.
"Why."
"Won't."
"You."
"DIE?"
Kyoto pushed the kunai right back in.
The web of black repelled it once more.
Kyoto grunted weakly.
"Was this the goal? To resurrect that bastard?"
"Who even are you?"
Kyoto received not a single answer. The monster just looked down at him bluntly. It was around 11 feet tall and seemingly lanky.
Luckily, the entire leaf's population had been evacuated due to Boruto and Kawaki's help.
Eventually, Boruto returned alone.
The monster shifted behind Boruto in an instantaneous movement. As Boruto checked upon Kyoto warily, the monster gave a little bye-bye by closing one hand.
And then it vanished.
From that moment onwards, Kyoto was set to be executed for the crime of single-handedly destroying a ninja village and causing unquantifiable property damage.
That was when Boruto Uzumaki suggested the idea of Kyoto being used as the specimen for a Forbidden Jutsu found in some ruins many years ago.
Supposedly the chances of its success were extremely low and to top it off, only strong shinobi would be able to survive the jutsu if it did succeed.
Kyoto, who felt like killing himself agreed hesitantly.
All Kyoto had to do was get through the months of preparation but even that wasn't enough.
On the 2nd month in, Kyoto attempted to kill himself.
The monster surfaced and guarded him against himself.
Again and again.
To the point where Kyoto just gave up readily. Kyoto had even attempted starving himself at one point and dehydrating himself but the monster fueled him in a way.
It was all futile.
Kyoto used the remaining months to do some homework on his right mangekyou. Although he had only used it once, he gathered enough information for studying purposes. The monster had in a way implanted itself into the very ability of his right mangekyou.
That was all Kyoto could really grasp.
News that should've been confidential was inevitably leaked.
Supposedly Shibai was carefreely wandering around the shinobi world wreaking havoc.
Killing off even Kawaki as the entire shinobi world stood up to him and ultimately failed in his path.
Kyoto still barely classified as a shinobi that could survive the Forbidden Jutsu. If Boruto or Kawaki had been present when he accidentally released his right mangekyou from its silent seal then the attack could've most likely been absorbed. Though Kyoto doubted this due to the nature of the monster that had been integrated into his right mangekyou.
Still, Kyoto took the chance.
And he beat it.
Kyoto then realized that Boruto and Kawaki probably wouldn't be able to absorb his right mangekyou's jutsu.
Why?
Well simply put, he had named it Burakku no hidasutaimusāpento. (Hideous Time Serpent of Black.)
It wasn't a very strong ability individually but it caused mass destruction.
But that didn't make it lethal.
Many abilities could cause mass destruction with ease.
Notice the time in the name.
The mangekyou-monster ability could slither through time, causing mass destruction in the blink of an eye.
That's why when Kyoto accidentally unleashed the jutsu...
It was already too late. All of Konoha had been leveled to the floor. Long burrows and trails of a huge serpent had been left lying across Konoha. There had never been a hope of stopping the jutsu.
Some odd future vision of Boruto allowed him to evacuate Konoha but it didn't show him how Konoha was destroyed. Since it all happened in the blink of an eye.
Well, when he returned to the scene. That much was obvious. Kyoto wholeheartedly took the blame. He easily accepted that it was on him since he assumed that he had unsealed his right eye by accident.
But who knew? Maybe it wasn't all so coincidental-.
Kyoto woke up right then and there, forgetting the last part of his dream-like the taste of breakfast from a year ago.
And so Kai and Kyoto continued on with their lives, leaving atrocities behind.
For as long as they could, that was.
