Chapter 18 - Spir & Crystal

"Time to steal it!" said a voice inside Mors's head.

Shock passed through his mind at this new voice as he felt something cold exiting his body. It was invisible, but Mors could vaguely see where it was, strangely.

Curiosity burned inside Mors since he could somehow see the ghost… Really concentrating on the area that he thought the ghost was in, he actually saw the ghost.

With a simmering, almost translucent cloak and a cloth covering his face, Mors could only see the ghost's deep clear red eyes. The ghost man was tall and looked relatively thin, but that didn't stop the menacing aura in the ghost's eyes.

"Since you are in public, and we don't want people to think that you are crazy, do whatever you were going to do, and I will tell you what could happen." the deep voice of the ghost emerged from the depths of Mor's mind.

With those words, Mors realized that he shouldn't ask questions right now since the ghost was right. He was in public, and people would definitely think he was crazy.

Quickly organizing his mind, Mors thought about returning to Alice's home, but after a second of consideration, decided to go to the farmers market.

When he was in Alice's home, he found the abysmally small food stash located in the bedroom closet. Alice must have been running low on money, or there would have been more. With concern in his heart for the health of Alice, Mors decided to go to the farmer's market to get more food.

With his feet forward, Mors started his journey to the farmer's market while listening to the new ghost. Quickly Mors learned that the ghost's name was Exspiravit, or Spir for short, and that he used to be an assassin.

Killing for money, spying on important meetings, and sabotaging certain "things", Spir lived a life of villainy. But after listening for a bit, and with a little convincing my Spir, Mors understood that Spir had his own code of morals, and only took jobs that dealt with even worse people.

Killing villains, spying on corrupt officials, and sabotaging anything that would cause the greater human population problems in the future. After learning of this, Mors didn't feel as conflicted with Spir anymore.

To make things even more interesting, as Mors was gathering some nice plump Avanias, Spir told him, "Oh yeah, I know you might feel slightly bad for stealing the herb, but that Alchemist leader is super corrupt…."

With a straight face, Mors quickly paid with a few copper coins before finding a darkened corner. After reaching a sufficient corner with only a few people, Mors quietly screamed, "What?!"

"Yeah, I got a mission request to assassinate him, so I did my research and found out the dude isn't exactly the best man. Always saving special herbs until a time of crisis, and then he sets a ridiculous price for them he allows people to buy them."

With a slight blaze in Spir's eyes, he continued, "And what's worse is that he never keeps the money and sends it to someone else… I can never find where the money goes, too, since it practically vanishes… Sadly with his security, I couldn't kill him."

Realization hit Mors at that moment, 'That's why that herb was so expensive…. The effects sound special, and with the potential monster horde being a crisis, the man shot up the price.'

Anger boiled inside of Mors. That man's greedy intentions almost caused Mors to lose all hope in helping Alice and almost caused Alice to die. Feeling the rage, Mors decided to listen with earnest as he full-heartedly chose to go through with it.

Not just to help Alice but to do his best to do damage to this evil person. He always wanted to help out people, and now he was going to take this chance to harm an evildoer. Now he got the chance to at least cause an evil doer a problem.

For the rest of the shopping trip, Mors was advised to buy as much as possible since, after they are successful, they would probably need to stay indoors for a while. With the markets being so close to the tower, Mors would definitely be questioned… Everyone would be questioned.

So after buying a few fruits, veggies, and a bit of meat, he started to return towards the small apartment. He also decided to buy a few seeds since he always loved to plant stuff in his little graveyard garden, and a few seeds wouldn't hurt.

Traveling back, Mors just looked around the town again. Usually, when he arrives in town, he would quickly grab the essentials he needs before leaving. He never looked around the place.

The place was nice, even though it felt slightly congested at times. The tall walls surrounding the city made everything inside feel small in comparison.

With firm steps, Mors looked continued to discover buildings while listening to Spir's plan. The plan shockingly contained training Mors in stealth.

He never actually thought of how they were going to steal the thing… Maybe in his head, he thought Spir would just do it. But that wouldn't work since Spir was definitely a ghost. So apparently, Mors will be taking private lessons from Spir for a week.

Mors felt excitement in his heart… he might be able to use this skill later to help him explore. It could even help with helping other ghosts with their problems. With a slight skip in his step, he moved quickly passed the center of the city again.

The hovering crystal that sparked some curiosity in Mors silently spun around, reflecting off a gentle, peaceful light that filled Mors. Landing in Mors's eyes, a flurry of emotions bloomed out of his heart, giving him a warm feeling in his chest.

The flurry brought forth Mors's attention as he quickly moved closer to the crystal. How had it sparked these feelings? He questioned as he peered into the crystal.

Starring in, he found a magical feeling coming out of the crystal. It felt like that deathly herb reacting with the green sap that was on the troll, except this time, it felt calmer. More controlled. Reasonable and forgiving.

Coming close enough that his nose practically touched the crystal, Mors finally saw something interesting… There were strange patterns all over the crystal. The patterns looked like the walls of the Adventures tower and the Supreme mage tower, except smaller and more refined.

It was a strange sight that sparked Mors's wonder as he saw a beautiful pattern. Staring into it for what could only be a few moments, Mors tried his best to engrave in his mind all the little patterns he saw inside the crystal.

"Mors… it's time to move. People are starting to stare", announced Spir as he practically awoken Mors to his surroundings. Quickly trying to act as natural as possible, he moved away from the crystal before continuing on his journey.

With heavy steps, he sighed. He wished he could look through the entire crystal since it seemed so intriguing to him.

Maybe if he looked for longer, he could learn something about what made the crystal do what it did, but sadly, the public exists.

The rest of the walk to Alice's home was silent since, it seemed as if Spir had decided that he explained everything he needed too. This would be a fact since he had explained a whole plan, backup plan, and extra backup plan to Mors.

Passing the clear lake on the side, Mors noticed that it seemed to be getting close to evening. The sun danced across the small lake in a spectacular way, and all he had done today was go to the alchemist's tower and go to the farmers market.

"Had I really taken that long in the farmers market?" Mors wondered as he reached Alice's street.

"Not exactly," replied Spir, "you just stared into that crystal for at least an hour or two… You were practically hypnotized by it. You didn't listen to me the first three times I told you it's time to move."

Quickly finding the stairs along the road that went up to Alice's door, Mors replied, stupefied, "Really?"

"Yeah, you were practically attached to the crystal. All of us ghosts came out to try and get you off of it, but none of us were successful. So I decided to tell you whenever you moved that you needed to leave. It finally worked the fourth time." Affirm Spir as he quickly entered into Mors's body.

Quickly traveling up the stairs, Mors tried his best to remember the small patterns on the crystal. To his astonishment, he could remember almost all of them.

With his shock, he quickly headed to Alice's apartment. He could barely remember looking at the crystal, but since it was in his mind already, Mors could spend the rest of the day looking at it.

Quickly knocking at the door, he waited with a child-like impatience for Alice to open the door. But after a few minutes of waiting and nothing happening, Mors decided to check the small window above the door.

Peering over the door, he found something alerting since Alice was…
