Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Contingency

KASUMI KISHI

Oh my goodness what was that! Renji was intent on killing just now wasn't he? I hadn't felt true killing intent so severe since I was little an aspired to be a Aihara and was taught by Lady Raiko. Slowly he walked away towards the starting area, I stared at his back holding up a silly Saika pulling his black hair back like she was steering a car.

What had he become? Is he really someone that can kill without hesitating now? Just how hard had he been working himself to get revenge. Before leaving he flashed me a smile warming my heart. Melting my ideas of him being not the same almost immediately. Ill discard that train of thought for now he will always be Ren-Chan in the end. "I have to focus up and cheer for him."

Renji Aihara Vs Tokita Sawa

I don't know how he planned to win this fight but somehow I have no doubts that he will, Tokita was really skilled from what I've seen and heard. Renji himself had said she had real battle experience which I'm not sure if that was a compliment or not. Renji had been training far before his parents assassination I'm kinda excited to see how much he's grown over the years though. Even so, It pains me that his smile will never be the same it's like it's faked and is something he's forced to do.

The screen on the right showed Renji his black hair tied back like always displaying his stormy gold eyes. while the screen on the left showed Tokita her hair a little longer than even mine a dark purple with the inside strands of her hair a very light blue that stood out amongst all other hair colors out there. Her eyes were purple with spots of pink under the retina and she had a pretty nice slim looking body. She wore a black shirt and black pants with her blue jacket tied around her waist. It was almost as if I was sure I had seen her before the academy.

They both seem oddly calm, The A.I had chosen an rural area with a nice large and wide street running through the middle. The town was completely deserted with no signs of life. The sky a nice pretty blue with no clouds covering the way. Although it may have looked lovely it was clear there wasn't really a breeze in this area making it hard for water mages. There had been many restrictions placed on contestants throughout this course but since I'm guessing he can't use his sword that was plenty restricting enough. Both Renji and Tokita had started inside different buildings. Everyone including the teachers had waited in anticipation for Renji's battle plan, Especially Ms. Kurutta her eyes shimmering with excitement "what would he do? Where would he go?." She said.

"What is he doing?" "Whys he just waiting there?" Chatter began to break out incredulously everyone was surprised at a daze even upon watching Renji's movement. Because, it was… well, simply stupid. Instead of going for a type of territorial advantage or anything of that nature he simply went to the middle of the wide street and sat on a nearby bench. He wasn't sweating meaning the heat didn't get to him in the slightest even though he was wearing a thermal type black shirt with gray pants and boots. Saika on the other hand replicated Renji's fit but modified it for herself she wore a gray skirt and a black sleeveless shirt with gray arm sleeves running up her arm and thigh high socks up her skirt finally her hair put into a ponytail.

Our bet prior to the match was that he couldn't use Saika or his 'sword' for the duration of this match. he had agreed to such an bet so easily. I had thought he would be more alarmed and hypersensitive considering his opponent was a pure mage, this match would be difficult for anyone else with restraints like those but he seemed almost unfazed.

It's must've been scorching outside so for water type magic users like Tokita I'm sure she felt uncomfortable or so you would think but from my point of view she looked also unfazed.

After a while of watching Renji and Saika joke around on a bench some students began to express their doubt on why a kid as young as Saika looked, was in their school and why she was allowed to be in this match. "Who is that girl sitting on Aihara's shoulders?" "Yeah that's not right I thought this was a 1 vs 1 match!" Soon after Miss Rock-heart had came and spoke to all the spectators.

"Rest assured that Girl is a partner of sorts to Renji Aihara, by partner I don't mean someone he considers a friend or things of that nature. She and him are intertwined and she is also a weapon, she is Mr. Aihara's Sword." People immediately began to express their doubts "How can we believe that a girl is a sword!" The group began getting aggressive although I don't blame them. While they are fighting for their future at this school a boy is claiming to have a girl as his sword. "Shall I have Mr. Aihara give a live demonstration upon his return then?" Ms. Rockheart clearly was the more accretive one instantly shutting the crowd up.

"Do with this information as you will but no unsportsmanlike activity has taken place. For one Ms. Saika hasn't even left that bench since she sat there and two this is supposed to be a real battle before it is a 1 vs 1 match. Anything can happen in a real fight please keep this in mind as you spectate the few remaining battles left to take place."

"This ain't right, this is plain favoritism" Fumiko had spoken out this time "you claim fairness to all here but Renji is allowed a plus one for his match, intertwined or not I don't believe this to be fair at all." His outburst kindled the fire once again "He probably payed the school for his support because he's so weak." A group of girls this time began to laugh frivolously backing Fumiko.

Upon hearing this my anger hit its peak I wouldn't stand for this any longer than I already have. "He is stronger than all of you! You have no right to judge him because he's carefree and has different methods than you all. I for one have absolute faith in him and know he probably doesn't need a weapon to beat any one you." after a paused I realized how embarrassing I sounded and I felt my face heat up

I was then approached by Ms. Kurutta "lighten up kid ya face it beet red." She laughed for a while but after hearing that I blushed even harder. "A knight should always stand by what they believe in I'm glad you said that. I know it takes a lot of courage to go against the flow of the room alone but that makes you special in my eyes. I'm sure there are more people in the world that would also agree, or so I would like to think."

Ms.Kurutta is a tough teacher she holds back but not enough. When she fought in the war she was known as the proctor of Cycro. She has monstrous physical strength rivaling the four dragons, on top of that her use of magic was blessed by the fairies themselves that hail over mana. After the assassination of Misa Aihara and The sudden disappearance of Sword Dragon Futsuna she had fallen into depression eventually giving up her will to fight.

My parents were constantly away maintaining peace in the structure of the world also sending troops to fight demons back In the frontline, "The Frontline…" I had spoken involuntarily. but, those words weren't exactly happy for people of my generation either. The frontline is currently Reyseeve the city in which the demons and all their alliances some even being human hold fortress. Also currently it was the place Lady Raiko was.. Lady Raiko had been a prodigy upon birth mastering mana manipulation at the age of 4 and learning her family sword by the age of 9. Many hated Lady Raiko for her carefree attitude leading her into doing whatever she wanted. She couldn't really be controlled or swayed very easily and as of now their are only 6 people in this world including Lady Raiko who hold power that dominantly.

I had remembered suddenly "Ms. Kurutta you were apart of the Six Lunars during The Katsueki War right? She froze I had known it was a touchy subject but my curiosity had overrun me. She slowly opened her mouth and her tongue had a purple print on it with the number 3. "Indeed I was, I fought alongside many people your mother and also Renji's mother but that's all behind me now. These days my lil bro is doin just fine and working hard and even earned himself the number 5 spot in the current Lunars." She had let her country accent show which was so out of character but interesting to see.

"Speaking of the 6 Lunars I'm glad they're better managed than back in my day." I was confused "better managed how if you don't mind my asking" I said "Back in my day the Lunars were a symbol of sorts in the war our only real purpose was killing our enemies. We were a bloodthirsty fighting craved group that had no intention of saving anyone. Especially our number one and number two." After her last words her expression changed from reminiscent to fear "Number two Suzono the descendant is what they called him and number 1 and the most dangerous of all…" she paused beads of sweat trickling down her face.

"Miss Kurutta who's-" she cut me off "Misa Aihara… Deaths Servant ." I was confused again "I had heard you and Lady Aihara were good friends, Wait.. that can't be right if memory serves at that time Lady Aihara could only be at most 14…" she laughed "Lady Aihara huh…." She began laughing again this time shorter. "You don't get it kid she was more dangerous Because she was a kid. Back then the smallest thing when dealing with her could lead to your death she didn't make a mistake in battles EVER. It's true me and Ai were good friends but before she got married my sole purpose after the war was to get as far away from that woman as I could."

That news was truly shocking, as someone living so close to the Aihara family hearing Lady Aihara was a stone cold killer at 14 was news that scared me even though she was no longer alive. "Enough about me kid I like your generation of Lunars they do their job well maintaining the land.

The 6 Lunars…, The six lunars are numbered 1-6 according to their strength and have a star with that number somewhere with them most have the star imbedded in their skin somewhere. These 6 people were known as 'The Six Lunars'.

6.Hikari Kazui Female 26, Uses pure non elemental magic to resuscitate wounds also often referred to as the "Saintess Of Light"

5.Chikara Kurutta Male 27, The younger brother of our very own Ms. Kurutta known for his being a physical powerhouse who mastered all martial arts

4.Genso Sakkaku Male 34, The illusionist master a scary opponent who uses his mana to forcefully attack your mind

3.Daichi Mizu Male 40, Spiritualist capable of temporarily reversing time and buffing Allies his other capabilities are unknown and is the older cousin of Hikari

2.Raiko Aihara Female 19, The Goddess of thunder is what they call her, her speed is immeasurable, her sword skill physical strength precision and intellect unimaginable. Blessed by the god of thunder itself and the youngest member currently in the lunars and second youngest of all time behind Lady Misa Aihara herself at an astounding age of 14

1. Suzono Male, Age unknown blessed by the creation dragon while the dragon itself isn't stronger than the god of thunder it is still amazingly strong but it's whereabouts are unknown. Not many details are available for him"

"You're pretty well informed would you happen to know why they're only 4 dragons left alive." Ms. Kurutta was impressed "unfortunately I don't every time we get into the topic of the ancient dragons our lesson always stops after learning about the current four. The Fire Dragon, Wind Dragon, Sword Dragon, and Dragon of creation."

"Good job all that information is correct. She paused once again lost in thought "Never woulda thought Suzono would make Lunar 1 though I guess it's deserved, he trained hard and he picked fights with everyone he deemed strong except Ai that is."

I no longer wanted to ruin my imagine of Lady Aihara so I didn't pry any further.

"My current dream is to become a Lunar like Lady Raiko, I've always looked up to her so when she became a lunar I was overjoyed. I'm envious of her free attitude it must cause many problems on the battlefield though." I laughed a little "I'd kill for a sister like that."

"It's good to have idols kid, gives you a goal but my only advice is don't idolize that monster like family. They are illogical, above human comprehension, although maybe I'm wrong and they won't all be like that."

After a while of me and Miss. Kurutta having some idle banter of pointless topics as waited patiently for the match to start. The whistle sounded only thing on my mind now cheering Renji on. I will always do my best to support him no matter what.

RENJI AIHARA

"This schools systems are so elite, no wonder prodigies are made here going to this school is literally a ticket to success." "I agree master I like the decor of this school it's different from home but also refreshing in its own way." Saika agreed sitting atop my shoulders resembling a queen sitting on her throne. Saika couldn't participate in the fight with me. First I though it would be difficult to calm her considering she wanted to be involved but I don't think it's bothering her after I promised a walk around the town later.

I've been waiting for what my sister referred to as hidden talents to show up but I'm not exactly seeing too many people worth that title yet probably 1 or 2 at the most but I haven't seen the entire class considering I didn't see Suzuki Kiyomeru or Nanoka Ōkui around. I'm quick to judge but I'm also quick to re-evaluate, I've been defeated in countless battles throughout my life I may talk arrogant but that's really my way of probing you for information like your habits and tendencies.

All of a sudden Raiko popped in my head. Her double colored hair black and white hair like mine braided backwards. No matter how many times you fight her she doesn't stick to a specific pattern of fighting so noting her movements in a fight is doing nothing but giving her a hand in your defeat.

"Starting A.I mana configuration" a loud voice rang

The Match had started the whistle had blown. I was placed in a bedroom on the second floor of a building. I looked out the window "it seems to be a rural area master, a deserted one at least." I wanted to see others fighting style but as a water mage I'm sure she can't fight to her best abilities in this weather making me less interested.

I decided I should just wait for her to move first. Saika and I went to sit on a bench on the Main Street, somewhere she was bound to see us had she looked. After about 3 minutes she appeared, it seems she had been waiting for me to move from here and realized I had no intention to.

"Why are you not moving?" She seemed pretty agitated "do you not take me serious? am I not worthy of a fight from an Aihara?" "Master it seems you've hurt her pride" The way Saika sounded it could be easily mistaken for mocking the girl. "mmmmh Tokita was your name correct?" I tried to sound nice "I believe you are strong, stronger than most and have much potential." "Master you were supposed to apologize not attempt to swoon her!" Saika pouted and had been throwing small jabs at my head.

"Then take up your weapon and fight me." " I can indulge in a fight but I'm afraid I won't be using a weapon." As I say that Saika jumps back from my shoulders to the ground, waves, and sits back down on the bench kicking her feet like a child. It seemed she hadn't noticed Saika this entire time as shocked as she was to see another person out here though she didn't take long to reply "Have it your way then, don't cry why you get hurt either." Almost immediately after she dashed backwards conjuring large spears of water.

"I'm guessing since I'm unarmed you intend to fight from afar? Not a bad plan." She had ignored me and hurled spears I dodged easily. By her muscle movement the trajectory was predictable "One from the front, one from the back, and after I dodge those the last one through the ground." She didn't seem shocked after her attacked missed which was a good sign meaning she wasn't done and has contingency plans ready. She then created water clones she sent forward as she fought from distance. They conjured blades of water in their hand charging forward. They were mindlessly swinging, and Tokita was sending horizontal blades through the clones at me. Still simple to dodge.

Realizing this was doing nothing but depleting her mana she took to close range offensive herself unleashing a flurry of attacks at my face.

I flipped backwards and upon landing she swung horizontally at my chest missing by a hair. After she swung wide I took the opportunity to slide in grab her hand pin it behind her and pressed my knee into her back. "Yayy go Master" Saika had been cheering for me in the background her hair typed up skirt flapping with her thigh high socks clearly visible. For a moment I became distracted and didn't realize Tokita had disappeared and my hand were holding a puddle of water.

I became impressed she escaped me at the same time disappointed, I had rusted to the point I let my opponent disappear in a fight no matter how insignificant. Moments later she burst out the puddle of water. I flipped back again just enough to not get hit or so I had thought. She had left a small scratch under my chin . She was clearly feeling accomplished and thought she had a chance. Saika's attitude changed from cheering me on to pure laughter and ridicule. "shouldn't have let ya guard down master." Tokita must've decided now was the time to use her trump card of sorts which was rash of her.

I hadn't understood why people thought getting a single hit on a stronger opponent was an accomplishment of sorts. But, I had understood why it made the recipient furious I too could feel my annoyance rise more in myself for letting her get happy than in her for getting a little scratch in. I'll end this now Renji Aihara!" She seemed awfully confident now. I decided I would allow her to cast this grand spell of hers at max strength and if I were disappointed even slightly I would make it very, VERY clear. "Goddess of water Sorina grant me your strength to unleash upon my foe a watery beast hailed from the heavens,

"GRAND MAGIC HYDRAWRATH!"

After waiting for a couple seconds a serpent made of water was created it looked dangerous, Tokita raised her right hand, supposedly she wasn't done "Wind Dragon Furyu guide me" The serpents body now protected by coils of wind creating a sharp turrets. Its insides splashing around as it charged at me hissing. It spewed water blades at ridiculous speeds at me and my surroundings. It was approximately about the size of a city which was more than enough to flood this tiny area we were currently in. She had encircled me allowing me little to no space to move giving her blades increased probability of hitting its mark. It was clear though, painfully so that she was still considering my safety. "Impressive it seems I wasn't wrong to call you strong after all. But, If this is what you call a grand spell then it's gonna be more than just a bit disappointing!

For a spell to be 'GRAND' as you so call it shouldn't it cause me a sense of fear? Why is it that even though this was your grand spell it did no more than soak me and my companions clothes?" "Speak for yourself Master I'm dry as can be over here!" Saika shouted to get under my skin, I asked her a quick question telepathically "Saika you'll be fine right think I might use a spell of my own" "Sure ill be fine master ill be waiting for you right here" Saika had smiled and waved me off. After guaranteeing my partner would be safe I decided to use a spell special to the Aihara family. "It seems you have no intention of causing me any serious harm.." she has been trying to hit me but not severely. "This spell is a little special I'm about to use, Tokita best you pay attention to a REAL grand spell."

She was clearly in a panic her 'Grand Spell' wasn't really having an effect on me besides soiling my clothes and kicking up a bit of dirt. She had tried many things but my mana was just higher than hers so much so that her attack was mostly negated but since I need so much mana for the attack I was about use I had to sacrifice my clothes getting wet. "Ill give you a small history lesson before I see you off to the infirmary, Back almost 100 years ago there was a woman who fought with a god to protect her loved one. The god being defeated swore he would watch over her family for the rest of his life this god so happened to be the Thunder god.

The horror on her face began to spread as she had realized where this was going. Her reaction was so satisfying, so much so I began to smile inward. "No way- You can't! There's no way you can use that it hasn't been done since-" "Thats correct now you got it, this spell hasn't been chanted since my mother made it when she was 16 fighting in the war."

She had finally understood everything and I'm sure everyone watching has as well. I began to chant slowly. I raised one hand "God of the mighty, The one that controls all, show me your power! Unleash upon the world the weight of thy sins retain thy dominance over the world and make my enemies suffer as I have." The surrounding area had already changed it no longer being a light blue sky, instead a dark ash color, bleak with thunder clouds suffocating the sky as far as the eye can see.

"GRAND MAGIC….KAMINARI-RAIHO"
