Chapter 1 - 1: New School

Edited]

I looked through the windows of mom's car feeling nostalgic. Here we are driving to my new school after the big fight I was in. Thinking back about it that guy deserved every punch and blow he had received. How dare he hit my girlfriend or should I say, ex-girlfriend. She dumped me after the fight claiming that I was a bad influence on her.

She could've been more appreciative but the past is the past now. No way to undo it and even if I could, I would've still beat the crap out of that boy.

"Honey, we're almost at your new school," Mom said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I hummed in response not feeling the need to reply to her. After all my words were like feeble stick to mom's ear even if I protest, I would've failed miserably. She never takes no for an answer.

Approaching the big rusty-looking iron gate stood Oklahoma High School for boys may I add. My big brother Jonathan attended this school as well. He's currently studying law at university.

Mom pulled up through the gates and drove to where the teachers were standing to greet the newcomers. I rolled my eyes at their behavior, another issue was why did I have to wear this yucky uniform? It was uncomfortable and hot.

Stepping outside of the car alongside with mom. The teachers greeted us and took my name handed me a timetable and the dorm room I'll be staying at.

Have I forgotten to mention it's not only an all-boys school but boarding too? Life couldn't have gotten any better than this. Unpacking my two suitcases from mom's car. I watched her chatting with one of the teachers.

I looked around examining the area and I got to admit everything and everyone was in place and I felt like an outsider already.

"Don't worry Ms. Moon, we will take good care of your son and discipline him in the way of a young man."

Turning around I kissed mom goodbye.

"You'll be alright here, I love you Ashton and I'm doing what's best for you." I sighed. Mom rarely gave me any chance to make decisions for myself. I was like a puppet on a string being controlled by its master. She paused a bit before continuing, "You might not understand now but later on you will."

Swallowing the lump in my throat,"Yes mom I know well I gotta go now."

She gave me a sad smile before entering her car leaving me alone in an unfamiliar environment. Dragging my suitcase behind me and not knowing the way to my dorm room. I decided to ask students along the way.

"Hey man, can you show me where dorm 103 is?" I asked impatiently.

The dude fixed his glasses before glancing in my direction. On his shirt was a pin stating he was the Head Student.

"Welcome to Oklahoma High, you must be new." He greeted. "Your dorm room is straight ahead, you take a left turn and look on the doors, you'll see your numbers."

"Thanks...," I trailed off not knowing the guy's name.

"It's Ace Mellow," He replied.

I cleared my throat, "Yes thanks, Ace."

Dragging my suitcases, I carefully followed his instructions not wanting to ask anyone any more questions. Looking around I saw students of all religions and races talking in hushed tones and walking politely.

I still don't understand why mom had to make my board at an all-boys school. For heaven's sake, we know what people say about the all-boys school.

Furiously, I gripped my suitcase handles tightly. Upon reaching my dorm room and tapped on the door a few times before it came opening revealing a taller guy than I am, with a towel wrapped around his waist and one hanging on his shoulder. I looked up to examine his facial features and I gotta admit he was handsome(not in a gay way). I envied this guy's muscular lean body.

"Are you going to keep staring weirdo or come in,"the husky voice retorted.

"I'm Ashton Moon, your new roommate." Ignoring his witty remark I stretched my hand out towards his. He dismissed my greeting and turned his back. "Get in, I'm Nathan Scarlett," He said lowly.

As I stepped in and closed the door behind me. My eyes wandered the room and I got to give it to this dude everything was tidy except for some shirts and books out of place.

"Sorry about the mess, I didn't know you would have been coming today." He must have noticed me looking around vividly.

Walking towards my direction as he looked at me intensely.

"Based on some bruises on your face, that's hardly been covered with foundation, you've been in a fight and got expelled, yeah?" His body figure towered over me like a looming giant ready to crush anyone in its path.

He continued, "Look Ashton don't go around making any trouble for me, just be a good boy." I half-heartedly took a step back before he grabbed my arm. "Am I clear?" He frowned.

"That's your area over there, stay there. Don't meddle or interfere with my things. Don't touch my stuff and we'll be just good okay roomie," He stated, swinging his hand over my shoulder and pinched my cheek with the other.

"Yeah, I understand Nathan," I replied.

Unpacking my suitcases I gently folded my clothes while Nathan went out to grab some food from the cafeteria for us.

After a few minutes of unpacking, I got tired. Orientation was tomorrow and I was feeling exhausted already. I grabbed one of my towels and headed to the small bathroom to take a quick shower.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Someone was outside but who could it be? Nathan had his access key to open the door so it wouldn't be him. Curiously, I wrapped the towel around my entire body before going to the door.

"Who is it?" I shouted.

"Is Nathan in there," the voice replied.

"No he's not here at the moment,"I replied.

There was an awkward silence before the person continued, "When he's back, tell him Jace came by."

With that, the footsteps of the person slowly faded. I wonder who that person was, well that's none of my concern anyways. I grabbed a white T-shirt, and some sweatpants before laying down. Mom still hasn't called to check up on me as yet. Drifting away in my thoughts, the door opened revealing Nathan with some packed lunch.

He threw a brown paper bag for me to catch which landed on my bed from his terrible aim.

I laughed, "Thanks, Nathan."

He grumbled under his breath, "Whatever."
