ENYEOK
A loud laugh.
Then followed by a lot more.
I jerk awake from my sleep, eyes squinting at the bright lights that dazzled my vision. When that same laugh that could shake this apartment invades my ears again, I sit up and rub the sleep away from my eyes as I try to make sense of the unrealistically soft sheets beneath me and the unfamiliar yet stunning room that I'm in.
The memories of yesterday flicker back to me like a sting on my open wounds—Being abandoned by my parents, staying with a person I secretly admire, and feeling like a burden. I close my eyes, trying to ignore the way it hurts. Trying to forget that I have nothing now. I'm nothing now.
The sound of chattering flew back to me again. Making me want to curl up in this bed and never leave. To just hide from everything and everyone. However, I can't do that.
I throw back the sheets and climb out of the bed, the timepiece on top of the drawer told me it's already five past ten. With a yawn, I walk straight to the bathroom. If the bedroom was stunning, then the bathroom was striking. It had white shimmering marble with black streaks over them, every counter was glazed in black marble.
I took a glance at the enormous mirror in front of me and saw my exhausted figure staring right back at me. My eyes were red and puffy from all the crying that I did yesterday and my brown hair was a mess on top of my head. I run a hand through it before rinsing my face. I brushed fastly and took a shower just as fast—even though I was tempted to stay forever in that dreamy bathtub.
When I checked my phone, there was nothing. No messages or calls or anything at all. I felt pathetic for even thinking my mother would bother to check in on me. A sigh leaves my mouth as I head for the door. A woman's voice mingled with Zelan's caught my ears.
I stepped into the living room and saw Somi sitting on the couch with Zelan, her head drooping to his shoulder as she laughed at her own jokes. I need to retain my urge to roll my eyes at that.
She wore a pretty sleeveless black dress that hugged her curves perfectly. Her long blonde hair flowed down her shoulder in waves. She must have been going somewhere because who dresses like that to hang out with a friend?
Zelan's eyes caught mine across from the hall, a smile instantly sprouting on his lips. And I hate the way my heart tripped over at that. I don't know when would I ever accept the idea of Zelan being as straight as a line. He only ever dated girls and he rarely dated. The last time he went on a date with a supermodel months ago did break my heart just as it did to his crazy fans.
"Good morning, Did you sleep well?" He asked. Standing up from the couch making Somi's head snap to me.
"I did. All thanks to you" I said bashfully as I walk over to them, thrashing my hands into my sweatpants pockets as I feel them getting all clammy.
"So this is the guy you mentioned." Somi said, not bothering to say 'hello' as she seized me up. "He looks so young though, how old are you?"
"Twenty-four"
"Really? But you only look like Nineteen" She laughs as If it was some kind of joke. I just stared at her not knowing if she was expecting me to laugh along. Even if she was, I could care less.
Zelan gave me an uneasy smile, "That was a compliment."
Somi looks like she wants to say something but she keeps her lips sealed when Zelan gives her a look.
"Um, you must be hungry, I made you breakfast. It's on the countertop." Zelan said as he gestured to me in the kitchen.
"Oh, but you didn't have to—thanks."
"I know right? Zelan is nice like that, but you don't get to take advantage of that." Somi grinned at me as I stared at her wide-eyed.
" What?—I won't—" She cuts me off.
"Hey, I was kidding."
It's not that I didn't already dislike Somi, but now I do it with some passion.
"Well, what was your name again?" She asks and I bite inside my cheek before answering.
"Enyeok. Enyeok Seon."
"Enyeok, it is." She nodded her head and then her lips pulled down in a frown. "Well, Eyeok, you don't have to add Seon to your name anymore, didn't your parents just disown you?"
God, is she for real?
"You don't tell me what to do." I snap.
"Hey, easy there, little boy. I'm just messing around." She said with a wave of her hands, her pink lips twitching into a wicked smile that I want to smack off of her so bad.
She pushed her hair off her shoulder and put her arm around Zelan, "So you two will be starring in 'Again' right?" She says, eyes flashing back to me from Zelan. And I know she is up with something again. I can sense another absurdity striving to roll out of her tongue.
"And you're a rookie, right? Do you think you can handle acting with my man right here?" Her long finger tapped on Zelan's chest as he squirmed under her touch. He clearly looked uncomfortable. I don't understand why he had this girl as a friend in the first place.
"I think I can. David won't offer this role to me if he doesn't see anything in me right?" I didn't try to hide the bite in my tone. I watch her eyebrows pulling up as she rolls her eyes.
"Confident much, huh? I see. Maybe he had seen something. But who knows, everyone can misunderstand or be misunderstood, right?" She cocked an eyebrow at me with a shit-eating grin.
She is really, literally, truly, getting on my fucking nerves.
"Enough, Somi. Stop with that." Zelan said as he pushed her hands away from his shoulder, he didn't sound angry or pissed or anything. Just neutral with a slight cold touch to it. "You're being awful to him. Why are you like this?"
She rolled her eyes, and that's probably all she had been doing other than the shit-talking. Rolling her eyes over and over. She glanced at her phone and sighed, "Okay, I won't be bothering you anymore by being here. I know you already had so much to be bothered by"
Her eyes flicker back to me, and I never felt so uncomfortable in anyone's gaze before. I fix my eyes on my feet, attempting to block her out wholly.
"Heya would kill me if I wasn't there at the time. I'll see you soon." She presses a kiss on Zelan's cheek and I look away promptly. I don't want her to find envy blazing in my eyes.
"Yeah, see you." Zelan said, His palm pressed on her back as he guided her to the door. With a final wave of her hands, she slips out of the door. Didn't bother to say goodbye to me just as I didn't.
With a sigh, Zelan turned around and held my gaze, an anxious glint on his icy blue orbs. "She was just playing around, you know?"
"I can clearly see that"
