Chapter 218. The Delinquent's Plan to Overthrow and Brawl with the Gang Boss
---
While nodding continuously, Cujoh Jolyne added, "Actually, it's not just about you, Gang-STAR. If possible, Gang-STAR, you could call over the other people in your organization too—it would be totally fine!"
"In fact, that would be even better!"
At this point, Jolyne could almost picture the scene unfolding in her mind. She was eager to have Pucci shoot a story like this as soon as possible.
After all, if the roles of the mafia were simply inserted into the story of "Stardust Crusaders", then what about "golden spirit"? What about friendship, effort, and victory? She felt that all those values could just go to hell!
If a group of mobsters were involved, the story would only become one about gangs fighting in Cairo, losing any emotional impact from scenes like Polnareff's passionate revenge on J. Geil or the sacrifices made by Avdol and Iggy for their comrades. All these plot points that resonated with the audience would disappear!
Jolyne could even imagine that since gangsters never act without a profit motive, there would be no way to expect them to brawl with Cairo's local thugs just to save someone.
Jotaro's reason for going to Egypt could very well turn into a plot where a delinquent plans to rise through the ranks by beating up the gang boss!
Of course, if they were filming a mafia-themed work, then this plot and setup would be perfectly fine.
But they were shooting "JoJo"—"JoJo's Bizarre Adventure"!
What are the main characters of "JoJo" supposed to be like?
The first JoJo, Jonathan, the second JoJo, Joseph, and the third JoJo, Jotaro... their actions have already shown all the viewers of the series!
As a JoJo, they can beat up cops, they can beat up teachers, and beating someone so badly that they end up in the hospital isn't even an issue.
As for dining and dashing or going to jail? That's child's play.
But no matter what flaws they may have, a JoJo must possess that "golden spirit"! The gentlemanly spirit passed down through the Joestar family, the noble resolve to stand up for others in need, even if they are complete strangers!
How could gangsters, who have nothing to protect and live empty lives, possibly portray "JoJo" well?
If not for the fear that Josuke and the others might not be able to play convincing gangsters, the more Jolyne thought about it, the more she believed she was a genius. She even wanted Pucci to forget about Part 5 and rewrite "Diamond is Unbreakable" as a mafia story right now!
Back when she hurriedly hired the latest "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" of the gang, Josuke and his friends, without anyone noticing, she realized that she may have been too rash...
"..."
This situation was a bit tough for Giorno.
Although he didn't think that gangsters were as bad as Jolyne imagined, in fact, he had once admired a certain gangster for his kindness. It was this admiration that inspired Giorno to become a "gangster superstar."
So, Giorno graciously accepted Jolyne's praise.
But was that really the problem?
Faced with Jolyne, who was still holding his hands tightly, her eyes glowing as she gazed at him, Giorno felt overwhelmed for the first time and asked her hesitantly, "So, Jolyne, did you specifically come to find me because you couldn't find reliable actors?"
"Mm-hmm."
Jolyne kept nodding.
"...And this is also why you've been worried lately?"
"Mm-hmm."
Although Jolyne had more worries than just this, this pretty much summed it up.
After all, if the quality of the actors dropped, then a script like "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure", which requires high-quality actors to convey its depth, would certainly lose its emotional impact.
And as for the BD sales, not to mention the sales of related merchandise? Only die-hard fans would buy that stuff.
If the quality dropped, the number of die-hard fans would decrease as well.
Naturally, the profits of the project would end up heading down the path of failure!
Jolyne could foresee this.
Of course, Giorno could foresee this too.
This left him at a loss for how to respond to Jolyne's high expectations, unsure whether he should help or not.
Finally, after a long silence, Giorno, with the intention of not leading Jolyne astray, confessed, "But I don't understand anything about filming. And besides, even though I handle the records for every member in Passione, I can't find many people who meet your requirements..."
"Good! If you really knew about filmmaking, would I be asking for your help?" Jolyne was extremely satisfied with Giorno's reaction and said, "Gang-STAR, have you ever heard of method acting or chosen actors?"
"?"
"Simply put, Gang-STAR, do you really think my father and the others are the kind of actors who toiled for ten years before finally becoming famous?"
"Isn't that the case?" Giorno couldn't help but ask.
After all, the actors at Green Dolphin Street Studio had no prior experience in the industry. Their knowledge and skills were practically zero, making them more novice than novices.
Their legendary journey had become as fascinating to the public as "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure", with the series itself becoming more popular and captivating the hearts of many.
The media coverage and interviews only further fueled this curiosity.
If at first, they could claim to be cutting costs by saving money on media promotion, focusing instead on the production, once the reporters started seeking them out, offering free publicity, Jolyne couldn't refuse, nor did she have any reason to.
So, Pucci, who was aware of this, had to refrain from making any bold statements about the industry being full of "trash actors." Instead, he made positive, inspirational comments, explaining that Jotaro and the others only achieved their acting skills through tireless effort and dedication.
He kept everything positive.
Clearly, Giorno had bought into this narrative of actors pursuing their dreams.
He couldn't have imagined that Jotaro and the others were, in fact, a group of cheat-playing "Deep Blue" buffs!
