I stepped away from the bed and saw Ethan standing behind me. I forced a smile on my face as I looked at him and stood by his side.
"Kate Miller," I read on the name tag on the bed. Ethan turned his head, looking at me with his eyes narrowed, but soon eased them.
"I was a Miller too," I remember proudly using the surname until they got separated because of my father when I was hardly eight years old. "Before my parents got divorced," I added, looking back at him, and he gazed, listening to me.
'Calm down, Peral, calm down.' My brain reminded me, warning me that it will not be safe to get swayed over his gaze, and it was the same gaze, giving me the illusion that it was just us present here and he would care less if someone else was dying beside him.
"Peral" Ethan called my name, bringing me back to him. I cleared my throat and looked the other way, trying to hide from his intimidating gaze.
