Before the early morning sun rose up, Aida was up. For how long have I been asleep? She took off her mask.
It was past four am. Just thirty minutes? She faceplamed. She was up from midnight until thirty minutes past before she succumbed to the warm hands of sleep.
"Oh God!" She turned on the bedside lamp. She couldn't sleep, her thoughts, her excitement kept her awake.
Eager for morning to come so that she'd find out what Kehlani and her mum were planning. Eager to unwrap her gifts, eager to fill up her stomach with the mouthwatering dishes she knew her mum would prepare specially for her.
"Aida You need to go to bed. She laid back on the bed. "You need to sleep," she pressed a throw pillow on her face. She was tired and excited; her eyes were hurting from staring at her screen for too long, and sleep wasn't forthcoming.
She just lay there, letting her mind wander away while staring absentmindedly at the ceiling until it was morning.
