His father told him about the Incursion.
During Humanity's peak and the Golden age of cultivation, the Demirs attacked.
They brought with them several warships and a strange power that caused humans to be wary.
Humanity won during the first battle and the subsequent ones were not so bad.
No one knew why but they ended up losing the war although they won the battles.
Cultivation was destroyed after numerous attempts to absorb it into their power system failed and Earth became a colony of the Demirs.
Felix always wondered why they would do so much to destroy cultivation, even going as far as labeling practitioners as terrorists.
It was not until this moment that he realized it.
Nay, he had figured it out long before now but he chose not to believe it.
That the Demirs were afraid of Cultivators or at least, they were scared of the potential they had.
Not only that as they also coveted the power of cultivation but for some reason, they couldn't have it which was why they were so upfront about ensuring humans also didn't have it.
It was farfetched, but the more he thought about it, the more it made sense.
So now when faced with a situation where he needed to convince the Demirs to take care of him, he decided to go crazy.
What would happen if they found out that his system attribute was cultivation?
Sure it wasn't the same as Battle but it was similar.
So he decided to gamble.
If it worked, he could enjoy the best gains possible while bidding time until he could exert his vengeance.
If it didn't, either now or later, he'd die, so why not now?
It's not like his life as a slave would get better with time.
This was why as he met Dyara's murderous gaze, he didn't back down.
Even as it felt like his lungs would give out, Felix kept a smile on his sweaty face.
He was prepared for the worst while expecting the best.
After several seconds of silence, Dyara moved her palm from his chin to his neck.
She grabbed him and lifted him off the ground.
It didn't look like she was carrying a grown man as she tightened her grip. "You sure have the balls to say that word in my presence. Aren't you scared of death?"
"…I'm not scared." Felix tried to smile but it looked like he was holding in shit. "I know you won't kill me."
He was about to give out when Dyara tossed him like a ragdoll and he slammed into the wall.
"Haha." Dyara chuckled. "You are bold, very bold. Tell me, why won't I dare to kill you?"
Felix coughed as he slowly got to his feet.
"Speak!" her aura surged out like a wave, pressing heavily on Felix's shoulders.
Bam
He dropped to his knees awkwardly but he didn't release a peep.
Pain tolerance was helpful in that regard.
"I know how much your kind hates Cultivators because they are dangerous…" Felix trailed off to catch Dyara's reaction.
She was silent but her eyes read him like a book.
As long as it's not mind reading… Felix thought as he continued.
"But that's only because they are wild cards. I'm not, I can't betray you since my cultivation is reliant on the system." Felix remarked. "Wouldn't it be gratifying to have a cultivator with enough potential to cause your kind headache, as a retainer?"
"I could enjoy the same thing with you as my slave. All I'd need to do is break your will." Dyara retorted calmly.
Her death stare was gone and she seemed willing to listen.
Gotcha… Felix smiled as he quickly spoke up. "But I won't be able to grow. Give me the chance to be your retainer and you will enjoy the power that no other Demir has been able to possess."
Dyara furrowed her brows and seemed to be in deep thought.
That's it, almost there… Felix was on the precipice of his ultimate goal, freedom.
He couldn't ask for complete freedom as Dyara would not accept.
No Demir was that kind.
He'd be lucky to enjoy a peaceful death if he asked for that.
So he opted for the second best…becoming a retainer just like the masked man from earlier.
It would give him some status and banking on the fact that Dyara was not a low-level Demir based on her aura that was several times more powerful than the scientists he could recall, Felix would be closer to figuring out the truth behind the Awakening project.
After several minutes passed, Felix began to feel the pressure.
It wouldn't be easy to convince a Demir but wasn't she taking too long to respond?
Maybe she read his mind and was thinking of the best way to control him and still enjoy the benefits of his system.
Felix immediately pushed that thought from his mind.
Even though he didn't know much about the power system of the Demirs, he was well aware that the one before him couldn't read minds.
She read something from him, but it wasn't his thoughts, Felix was sure of it.
It was why he had passed out the last time.
Whatever information she received after reading him was taken in one fell swoop, causing his body to shut down for some time.
Just as he was about to convince Dyara further, she spoke up. "You are right about being special. I have never heard of a Cultivation System before but that also means I can't trust that what you have told me is the truth."
Felix's expression fell.
It would seem his gamble…
"But I am still curious to find out more so I will give you a chance to prove your specialness." Dyara smilingly said.
Felix solemnly inquired. "…And if I fail to do so?"
"Then…" Dyara trailed off as Felix felt his heart palpitate strongly. "You will be joining your ancestors wherever they are."
