Chereads / Battle God Ascension / Chapter 4 - Getting a hang of the system

Chapter 4 - Getting a hang of the system

"Battle God?" Felix put up a brow at the rather imposing title of the system interface. "Isn't this a bit too bold?"

[A simple explanation would be that an Awakening is triggered when one experiences something they have an affinity for.]

Felix pursed his lips as he recalled his time back in the labs of the Demir scientists.

After the time spent in their capsule, they carried out a series of tests involving, drowning, burning, and being crushed by a rock… due to their divine technology that made it possible to revive a person on the brink of death, it wasn't hard for them to consistently carry out such tests.

Of course, that didn't mean there were no casualties.

The helpless screams of humans as they were subjected to varying degrees of torture were forever etched in Felix's mind.

"So that's why they did all that," Felix muttered. "I awakened as a Battle God because I have an affinity for battle and nearly died as a result of it."

[Precisely. You catch on quick, host]

"Tch, I'm not stupid." Felix snorted. "But it still doesn't explain why it's titled as a God. Is it possible for humans to become gods?"

[The concept of a god is lost to me. But based on my superior knowledge, I can say that with the right weapons and abilities, one can become worthy of the title, god]

"God…" Felix nodded as a bold assumption came to mind but he dared not consider it too much.

For now, considering what entailed the concept of god was too much to handle.

Small steps… It was better to take it easy than rush the process.

"Mn." Felix nodded. "As I am now, even with fancy skills, I won't last a second against an Awakened, talk more of a Demir."

This was because most Awakened after they gained their systems would be subjected to training by the Demir commanders before being allowed to return to Earth.

Felix knew this because one of the friends he made during the project managed to Awaken and was directly sent to Military school.

As he busied himself with the system, a knock at the door to his cell was heard.

"Who's there?" Felix asked with a vague look of apprehension.

Thankfully the issue concerning his revenge schemes wasn't discussed loudly, else who knew what would happen if someone found out about it?

At this point, he couldn't trust anyone to keep it a secret.

After all, most humans were currently trying their hardest to get into the Demirs good books.

He couldn't forget that it was a neighbor that gave away his father's location when the Enforcers came to arrest him.

In any case, he had to be careful to avoid letting the information leak, that way he would be able to avoid getting cut down before he achieved his goals.

The knock came once again and this time a bit more forceful.

"Oi, What's going on in there?" a gruff voice asked from the other side. "If you don't answer, I'd be happy to throw away this piece of shit I'm carrying."

Felix recognized the voice on the other side as the bastard that normally brought him his meals so he replied. "… Nothing that should concern you."

"Hmmph, your cocky attitude will get you killed someday."

"You are here to drop off my breakfast, right?" Felix couldn't be bothered to retort the other party.

"Bastard." A mini hatch at the bottom of the door was opened and a tray with a bowl of gruel and moldy bread could be seen.

Just as Felix was about to get up to receive it, the man at the other end spat in the gruel and used his finger to spread it around before sliding it in.

"Enjoy." With a sarcastic undertone, the other party closed the hatch and promptly left.

Felix stayed in place and waited until the footsteps were gone before he rushed forward to pick up the bowl.

He couldn't care less about what was in the gruel as he wolfed down the moldy bread until it choked him.

[Notice. Eat slowly]

Felix spat. "Shut it."

Once the bread managed to get past his throat, he picked up the bowl of gruel and took everything in it, even licking the plate before dropping the bowl.

It produced a clinking sound as it hit the tray.

"Hah." Felix collapsed on the cold floor and sighed. "You must be disgusted."

[Notice. the term disgust is foreign to me. Your body is in terrible condition and even though what you just ate would cause you major constipation under normal circumstances... it is better than nothing]

"Yeah…" Felix muttered with a complicated expression. "It's better than nothing."

[How about testing your skills?]

"Why would I want to do that?"

[Notice. As a form of exercise]

"I don't feel like it." Felix turned to his side.

[Notice. Such exercise would help you recover]

"You are just making that up."

[Notice. I am a superior AI, lying is beneath me]

Felix pursed his lips before tersely agreeing. "Alright then."

After waiting for a bit to allow the… meal to digest, Felix got to his feet and assumed sword wielding stance.

The stance was without form but it didn't matter since it wasn't a real fight.

[You can summon weapons using the Unique Skill, Weapons Vault]

"I can?" Felix appreciated the convenience afforded by the system.

If he didn't consider the price, it was indeed a desirable power.

Following Aya's instruction, he summoned a sword using Weapon's Vault.

"What next?"

[Mentally call out the skill you wish to use and it would automatically activate]

"Noted," Felix replied.

Taking a deep breath, he called out the first skill.

Vertical slash

Immediately, he felt power flow from his abdomen before flowing toward the sword.

Felix was about to swing it when Aya's voice resounded in his head.

[Notice. I don't advise you unleash the attack as it would leave marks on the walls. Would you be able to explain how such marks suddenly appeared?]

"That's…" Felix coughed awkwardly before retracting his arm.

He was caught up in the moment and forgot the aftereffects of his actions.
