Chapter 9 - Mirror And Lies II

(Uriel Ulrich)

I casted the previous plan I had away, finding a witch was an impossible task for I didn't know my way around the town, so many things had changed since I left. The frown my face wore didn't vanish even till I arrived at some distance away from the Light Pack. I had already decided to visit the pack's Luna for she was my best bet at finding Veronica. Veronica said the Omicron of the Odeon's House was a brother of a red raven so I could as well fix the issue after visiting him. I encountered the previous patrolling wolves I met at the forest and they made way for me as I walked past them. I knew the path that led to the Alpha's lair so I was there within the span of few minutes. Whenever an Alpha died, his son ascends his position but if he had no son, his Beta would carry the responsibility of leading the pack. Just as I arrived at the location, I caught sight of the black dressed Luna speaking to some wolves that were also clad in black.

On catching sight of my advancing body, she sent the crowd away and placed her hot gaze on me, she was scrutinizing every movement of mine like I was some deadly beast. The wolves she sent away also casted gazes of hatred upon me but they knew to withhold their anger for they weren't my match. I also caught sight of unfamiliar wolves, wolves that weren't present during my first visit to their pack, I knew they belonged to other neighboring packs. `Why are you here? Is it that you want to murder everyone here as you did murder my husband or you're here to mourn him?' She broke my attention towards the other wolves with a questions but I remained unbothered. `I'm not some killing machine, I have moral codes to keep untainted. I'm here because I need your help and that might as well help ease your anger towards Odeon's House.'

I noticed a myriad of emotions assault her face and I was discomforted by her words. `You wouldn't be here if you don't need my help so I can as well refuse to provide an assistance, don't you think? You think of using the Odeon's House as a bargaining ship, what if I decide to get rid of my hatred towards those vampires?' I said nothing till half a minute passed away. `If you won't help, I would destroy your pack.' Before I could reply, Ulnar forced those words to escape my mouth with his guttural but loud tone. The words were loud and they attracted the attention of the mourning wolves, I knew what Ulnar was trying to do. He was with the intention of inciting a battle so he could as well enjoy some violent actions. While his reaction might have seemed to be good towards the issue of saving Veronica, his intention wasn't so. If wolves were pushed so hard to an extent, they would resist. They might be weaker than me but didn't mean they wouldn't fight back should they be angered.

I looked around and I made a rough count of the wolves that were present, including the visitors from other packs and they all numbered hundred, with very few Alphas included. `Your threat wouldn't be useful, here. Could you withstand the attacks of everyone here? I'm sure it's a no so I'd advise you to make use of your brain.' I smiled in response just as I gave a reply. `Will they all be here, tomorrow? I can always attack your pack but they cannot always be here or can they?' My taunt earned a growl from her and every wolf moved a step forward with the pure intention of attacking if I didn't stop running my mouth. `If we should kill you right now, would you appear here tomorrow when they are absent?' She questioned with a smile plastered on her face.

`You know how fast I am. No one here could stop me from leaving and trust me when I say I could kill the whole lot of you should you all piss me off. It's simple, we both earn what we want. It's a simple proposal, could you just try hearing me out?' My tone got persuasive as I wanted no bloodshed to be birthed by the misunderstanding. `What is it?' She questioned but I did notice the disgusting expression she had on her sexy face. `My vampire friend was captured by a brother of Odeon. All I need is his location and I'll bring his head to you in return for the favor. If I can get Odeon to tell me of his brother's location, I'll be able to save my friend from danger.'

She laughed after I spoke. `Says the beast who said he wouldn't kill a man that didn't offend him.' I maintained my calm expression even after her taunt. `His brother has already created a feud between I and his family. There's literally no way I would save my friend without killing him and there's no way I would kill Odeon's elder brother that he wouldn't come for revenge so at a point, I would have to kill him.' She was surprised by my words but I knew nothing of the reason. `You have a weird way of doing your things. You plan on exterminating a future problem before it disturbs you, does that not make you a man of violence? Yet, you claim you're a man of moral conducts.'

`She's under my protection so I have to do anything to keep her out of harm's reach. I have to break some codes to achieve some goals at some points, that's how life rolls. No one is ever perfect but that doesn't mean I can't try my best to be perfect. Do we have a deal? I need to be quick with this.' I gazed into her hostile eyeballs and stated sharply. `I'm beginning to find you hard to understand. That doesn't matter, as you've said. What matters is we both earn what we want.'
