Chapter 21 - Public Embarrassment

CHAPTER 21

The days went by quickly and sooner than Scarlett had expected, it was already Monday. The day that marks the beginning of her work with Arsenio Stone, CEO of the Stone Enterprise.

Scarlett was not so sure when Arsenio will be arriving at work so she called to ask his personal assistant, Ryker the previous day. And fortunately for her, she was told to come in at the time every other employee does.

So with that in mind, Scarlett woke up two hours before time. Getting ready was not an issue as she had all sorted out last night.

Scarlett wore well-ironed professional attire consisting of navy blue suit pants, a white collared, button-down shirt and a matching navy blue thigh-length blazer.

She paired her outfit with a pair of open-toe heels. She didn't put much work into her makeup. She's a beauty without it anyway.

Scarlett stood before the mirror in her room and let out a sigh. She took a picture of herself for keeping.

"You go, girl. You will do great today," she encouraged herself.

Checking the time, she had more than an hour to get to work. That means she has enough to get a plate of the good-luck meal Kayden was preparing for her.

"Wow. You look like a business model that walked straight out of a painting. Damn!" She heard Kayden compliment her as she walked into the dining room.

"You think so? You know on the first day at, the first impression matters. I don't want to look too much or too... unprofessional," Scarlett asked.

"Tsk. Don't worry about that. Ypu look professional. Not too much though. It's their environment that may be too dull for your beauty and presence," Kayden waved his hands at her in assurance.

"You sure it's not just flattery?" Scarlett shot him a doubtful look.

"You want me to ask my fans on social media what they think?" He cocked a brow at her.

Scarlett frowned. "What? No! That one cringy fan of yours will surely say something cringy. And I don't need that for my first day."

Kayden chuckled. "So take my word. Now, come and sit. Breakfast is ready."

After the meal, Kayden dropped her off at the company. And of course, he did not forget to send her to work with a well-packed lunch.

Scarlett sighed as her eyes beheld the tall magnificent building before her. The name Stone Enterprise was written in bold golden letters, just like it is on the business card.

"This is where I will work from now on for a year. I hope it brings me lots of good memories and a nice working experience."

Saying that, Scarlett walked into the building after going through the security system by the gate. Scarlett was awed by the interior of the building.

It was way better than the exterior for sure. Quickly concealing her expression, she moved straight to the reception desk where a woman was stationed.

"Hello, good morning," Scarlett greeted with small a polite smile.

But instead of getting the same, she got a scanning look and scrunched up brows from the lady.

"Hmm. What's your situation?" The receptionist asked after a while.

Scarlett found the woman a bit of an annoyance but she shrugged it off thinking the lady must be having a bad day that morning. It's nothing new how some people hated the first day of the week.

"It's my first day here. So, I was hoping you could point me in the direction I can take to the CEO's office," Scarlett said.

The lady scoffed. "I see what is going on now. You are one of those money leeches that come here claiming they know the CEO and want to meet him without an appointment."

"I do know the CEO. In fact who doesn't know him? But I assure you that I am really not like those you refer to. I'm an employee. I–"

"Spare me, my time girl. If you are an employee why is your name not on the register? I haven't even seen the likes of you working here," the lady cut her off.

"Excuse me. I did tell you I'm new. Plus you did not even ask for my name to check the register if it's there or not," Scarlett countered.

"What's the name? You'll see that I'm not wrong here."

"It's Scarlett Davis," Scarlett answered.

A minute went by and the woman loudly exclaimed, shocking Scarlett and gaining attention from those around.

"Ha! You see. Your name does not appear here. Another scam, I say. Security!" She called for security.

She? A scam? What the heck?

"Hold up. There must be a misunderstanding here. If you don't believe me, I have my letter of employment with me."

Scarlett was not liking how this woman was labelling her right now. The worst part was that people were already looking and whispering about it.

This was not how she pictured her first day of work to begin. Not with a public embarrassment, for heaven's sake.

Quickly, Scarlett fished out the letter of employment given to her by Ryker and showed it to the receptionist.

"Here it is. I'm telling the truth."

"Give me that. This may just be another one of your fabricated lies," the receptionist took the letter from her before she could react.

"You even dressed up for the act. People nowadays have no shame," she continued speaking. "Security."

"Aren't you supposed to even check that? What kind of person accuses others without proof?" Scarlett was fed up already.

"I don't need proof to know a scammer. I can discern them from miles away. How did she even get past you guys? Be ready to face the boss." She said to the two security men already in the building.

"We–"

"Take her away first and explain yourselves later." By now there was a crowd of people who seem to also be employees gathering around

"Miss, please come with us," one of the men said as he held one of Scarlett's arms.

"Let go of me. Why would I lie about being employed here?"

"That's something only you can know, I said take her out."
