Chapter 4 - Who cares if one more light goes out...

I woke up to J.A.R.V.I.S. announcing dinner. So I got up, paused my music and went down stairs for dinner.

I got off the elevator and went to the kitchen," There she is, dinner is on the stove, plates are over and silverware is there." Steve said, pointing everything out for me.

" Thank you Mr. Rogers."

He nodded and left for the dining room. I waited to make sure everyone already got their meal before I went to dish mine.

I got a smaller portion and went to sit at the table with the rest of my teammates but there were no seats so I sat at one of the bar stools in the kitchen and ate my dinner quietly with my headphones in.

Once I was done I was going to leave until Tony noticed and told me," Hey, make yourself useful and do the dishes!"

Most of the team started laughing. I just nodded and said," Of course."

So an hour later I was done and wanted to train so I went to my quarters and got the workout set I got from S.H.I.E.L.D. and asked J.A.R.V.I.S," J.A.R.V.I.S where is the workout room?" I asked kindly.

" On the 7th floor Ms. Espenosa." J.A.R.V.I.S told me.

" Thank you,"

"Your welcome Ms. Espenosa."

"You can just call me Aria."

" Okay Aria".

I left my room and went to the training room. No one was there Perfect. I pulled out my music and went to the treadmill

Should've stayed, were there signs, I ignored?

Can I help you, not to hurt, anymore?

We saw brilliance, when the world, was asleep

There are things that we can have, but can't keep

One more light by Linkin Park came on, I started humming the song. Then I started mouthing the lyrics. It then increased to quietly singing it.

I was so caught up in running and singing that I didn't notice someone join me in the room. I soon got off the treadmill to start on weights but that is when I noticed the evening gym visitor, Loki.

I jumped and immediately started apologizing," I am sorry I didn't hear you come in."

he just shrugged it off and went to workout.

'Wow I really need to get better at not singing, but at least I didn't have to hear an insult' I shrugged and went to weights than the punching bags.

If they say

Who cares if one more light goes out?

In a sky of a million stars

It flickers, flickers

Who cares when someone's time runs out?

If a moment is all we are

We're quicker, quicker

Who cares if one more light goes out?

Well I do

The song came on again. I wrapped my hands then went to take all my emotions out on the bag. I punched and punched and punched, I punched for my fallen siblings that didn't get to live, I punched for the unfairness in this world, I punched for the life I was given, I punched for the fact that on one is there for me, I punched for all the other children going through struggles, I punched and punched and punched for everything wrong in this world, for the sadeness, and the unfair and unjust things, for the sad for the mad.

I just punched and punched and punched till I couldn't anymore. I stopped and was painting but felt better.

I left the Gym and went to take a nice cool shower then went to bed after writing more in the journal ready for my next hurdle, the next challenge I will overcome.

A few days later nothing changed. I noticed I was the butt of the jokes, the landing pad of chores and was invisible unless useful in the moment. An alarm rang out throughout the compound I got in my suit then went to the helipad.

We all loaded up in the jet and Steve told us what was happening, there was a Hydra base we needed to take out.

I was supposed to go solo because there weren't enough people for everyone to have a partner. WE landed and we all went to do our jobs. I was on search and rescue.

That means the first to go in.

I saw so many dead bodies it was traumatizing but I telported everyone that was alive and on the good side to the jet and I did get injured.

I got nicked in the shoulder and bruised all over but it didn't matter. Anytime I saw a teammate was injured I healed them and continued my job.

A while later we were leaving when weapons showed up out of nowhere and put a force field around us to protect us from the blast. I screamed as the blast hit the force field and used my powers to destroy the weapons and put down the forcefield.

" Is everyone okay?" Steve asked once the forcefield went down everyone except me nodded.

They all started walking back to the jet and Tony called to me," Keep up, or we will leave your butt here kid!"

I sighed and caught up with everyone and they all got checked out to make sure any injuries were good," Kid, can't you be useful and heal everyone instead of just sitting there?" Tony asked passive aggressively.

I nodded and healed everyone and they went back to ignoring me. So I went to the first aid kit, cleaned up my wounds and went back to my seat by the window.

I looked out the window and let tears roll down my cheeks as I thought of the lyrics.

' Who cares if one more light goes out?In a sky of a million stars it flickers, flickers. Who cares when someone's time runs out? If a moment is all we are, we're quicker, quicker. Who cares if one more light goes out?' and how true they are.

I don't want to admit it but it's true I am invisible everywhere I go. Who would care if my light went out in the world of millions of people or even on my team who would care if one measly little 9 year old's light goes out in the team of amazing supers who don't need me.

Those were my thoughts as silent tears rolled down my cheeks, in the window seat, in the back corner of the quinjet...
