Upon hearing the word mother, she gave Renjun a death stare. Normally, she was an easygoing person but where her personal life came, she was the most cold-hearted person anyone could imagine.
"Step-mom"
She corrected with a stern voice.
"Yeah, sorry… Stepmom, also you were abruptly brought under my supervision to catch the ace of spades…weird! Isn't it?".
He asked, trying to read her expression, but the only thing he saw was anger. Eyes darken instantly. He would be lying if he said he wasn't intimidated by her looking down at him.
"You're the genius, figure it out"
She shrugged. Her voice sounded foreign, yet a hint of sadness could easily be noticed.
"I don't think you're the killer"
he said making her laugh at his audacity
"You think!?"
She joked, making him fake laugh along with the girl, followed by another stare.
"Haha not funny… I have placed half of these you see here, criminals behind bars, and I'm going to put the ace in too".
He was confident enough because never once he doubted that he'll fail. Failure was never an option for him.
"Good luck doing that, Sherlock".
She muttered, rolling her eyes. She knew he was capable enough.
"Let's make a deal" he suddenly said, making her look at him.
"I get you out of here, and you tell me everything you know about your father"
He tapped his fingers on the table, which greatly annoyed her. He was a bit anxious, cause if she denied his plan can hit a dead end, yet again, she would be out of there, regardless of what happened. Furthermore, he was never going to leave her in prison, to begin with.
It was a strategy, to trick everyone and make her trustable to others.
"You have wandered to the wrong place if you want information about my father"
She scoffed. She despised him, loathed him to the point she didn't want any relation to him.
Renjun cursed in Chinese, loosening up his tie. It was going to be a long time to convince her.
"Your relations with him aren't good, huh?"
He asked in an obvious tone. Almost as if he knew what was wrong, how he treated his daughter.
"What makes you say that cap?"
She inquired curious, leaning her head on her cuffed hands. She wanted to know if she was going to trust him with valuable information, was he worthy enough to be of help, or was he just another person who was going to fade away with the passage of time?
"I checked your call details…message history, the only messages you received from your father were money transactions, and even if he called you never picked up"
He told, making her press her lips in annoyance. He pulled up pieces of evidence and tracked her info…. All of it. And that she was damn sure how things were going to get messy.
"Why do you hate your dad?"
He inquired curiously. Seohyun took a deep breath.
Maybe it was time for everyone to know the truth. That's what she told herself before opening up about her biggest trauma.
"He is a killer… Renjun…my mother died because of that man".
She replied, her eyes burning with hate. Huang's eyes widened at the word killer.
"He what?"
Renjun asked shocked, making her chuckle at his response.
"Not literally…mom committed suicide when I was 18. I never knew why. One day, I just came home from school my parents had a fight and the next thing I know is that I find myself in a pool of blood which belong to the one who gave me birth".
Renjun quietly listened to her, focusing on her voice. He was at a loss for words. Emotions weren't his thing and he never knew how to emphasize with anyone, so he wasn't sure what to say.
"I'm sorry to hear that"
"After her death, I stopped talking to him. Then he married this new woman and left me alone, and like you said, the only message I ever got was money being deposited in my account. So if you want to know anything about him, I'm sorry".
She said her eyes glossy afraid that she will cry, He took out a tissue from his pocket offering to her.
"I'm not going to cry stupid"
She pushed away his hand, rolling her eyes for the nth time.
"You look like you're gonna"
"You are terrible at comforting people, aren't you?"
She chuckled As his pupils shifted in confusion not sure what to say or do. He was indeed terrible at this.
"I'm kidding, I apologize for ranting, but you asked for it"
"no it's fine thanks to you have an idea, we're getting you out"
He said as he got up, fixed his tie and ready to leave the place.
"Excuse me"
she said holding her wrists up which had been handcuffed. He had forgotten about the cuffs. Apologizing, he took out the key to open the cuffs.

"Now, Mr. Huang, you don't trust me right"
She inquired as they were leaving the station
Renjun had already signed the papers for her to leave the custody and escorted her to the car.
"What makes you say that?"
He asked as the two sat in the car. Renjun glanced at the girl who looked straight ahead with a gloomy face, she looked upset.
"You suspected me of murder…ignoring the fact I helped you in your case"
She gave him a side eye as a way to show that she was indeed disappointed. He simply chuckled at her words, knowing it was all a show put up for others, and never once did he suspect the girl.
"It's my work, ms park… It's how I live".
"Oh! So, are you alert right now? I could kill you".
She said, inching closer to him with a smile on her face. Clearing his throat, he turned towards the girl, leaning down to meet her eyes.
The two being awfully close.
"I'm more dangerous than you think…seohyun"
His voice dropping a few octaves.
In an instant, she moved back with a nervous laugh.
Butterflies…
That's what she got, hearing her name from his mouth. Her stomach churned seeing him at a Proximity. He was damn hot, seeing him up close gave her even more tingles.
"Drive… I have to go home"
she hid her flushed face behind her hair.
"Who said I'm taking you home?"
