Chereads / LEGACY OF THE FALLEN FAMILY / Chapter 18 - ONE-SIDED

Chapter 18 - ONE-SIDED

The match begun with Ralph jumping at Ragnar as soon as the matched began. This was because he knew that if he allowed him to adjust to the flow of battle, he would be the one at disadvantage. Also, in the confrontation, the one who strikes first usually has the upper hand while decided the flow of battle and the most probable result.

Ralph was from a primary elves bloodline which combined with human and gave brith to half-elves. Needless to say, they inherited the elf's bloodline and with it came the ability to be master of magic.

Magic as it could be known by now is a branch of mana usage where the user manipulates the mana in his body to affect the surrounding energy. It can be better understood in the form of a system, and the magician being a catalyst which affects the system itself and morphs it's behaviour in a specific way.

The way through which they do it is called spell. There can be numerous kind of spells and depending on the extent of effect they were categorised into various levels and stages. There were also various gradation system based on the spell's properties. It was too broad a subject to cover in one chapter. So, we will learn about them as time passes and we reach deeper into the stories. Believe me, we will.

Ragnar looked at the incoming attack and was surprised. He was a proficient magician in the past and hence knew a lot of spell-theory. The way Ralph used the spells were different, characterized by a much faster incantation, but in response he just raised his hands and bashed it aside in front of the shocked eyes of everyone.

"So weak."

Although the method Ralph was using amde the incantation faster, it lost its power in the process. Ralph has used a fire spell to attack Ragnar while he drew closer, but when he saw his attack being defected with nothing but a bare handed swipe, his foots stopped at their location.

Ragnar looked at Ralph before raising his hands and signalling him to come. Ralph was brought back to reality and this provocation seemed to have angered him. The anger he felt, managed to overpower the nervousness and awe he felt before thus allowing him to attack without hesitation.

Ralph rushed at Ragnar with his weapon, a mace. Ragnar looked at him and saw his figure before comparing it with the mace he used. A expression of dissapointemnt flashed through his face as he simply dosed the attack and kicked the handle before slapping Ralph on the face, forcing him to release the grip on his mace. He then grabbed the handle, rotated his body through an entire circular rotation, and hit Ralph in the chest. Ralph was shot back, almost outside the stage's boundary.

Ragnar held the mace in air and checked it's weight. He then played it while, Ralph was busy getting up. He felt like Ragnar wasn't even taking this fight seriously. It was just a casual event for him. Little did he know about how much Ralph had put on the line for this bet. He was about to rush out when he heard Ragnar's voice.

"Who made you choose this mace?" Ragnar asked.

"What?" Ralph asked.

"I am asking you tell me who forced you to choose this mace. Looking at your fighting style, and your build I am pretty sure you haven't chosen this as your weapon. I am guessing that someone else forced you to wield this as your weapon." Ragnar played with the mace. "It is a good mace, with some enchantments, but you are not fit to use it. More likely to say that your body is not built for using this. I pity tour position, given how much time you must have wasted on learning it."

"How dare you question my efforts and my choice?" Ralph was angered by his comments.

"I am questioning the instance which led you being in possession of this. There is no way someone like you would choose this no matter it's allure. Your body would work much better with a sword or a spear, but this mace is useless in your hands. You are just not built right for it."

Ralph did not answer and rushed at Ragnar who nodded his head in disappointment. Ralph's ego was preventing him from realising truth. Mace was a weapon built for those whose strength was superior than the rest of their stats. It required a huge amount of strength to weild and use in battle. It was a heavy weapon and hence it was more effective when dealing area damage or breaking through things. It meant that the user must be able to weild it and use it to extend their strength and apply it.

Ralph on the other hand had a slender body, which showed just how much he was unsuitable for the mace. Ragnar would have accepted the choice given Ralph had extra ordinary strength for his build, since body composition by itself was a huge factor in determining the strength of someone. He himself was a prime example of that. Even though his built was a little smaller than Ralph, his strength was far superior.

He deflected Ralph's fist, which was followed by a spell he managed to conjure while running. Ragnar could have dodged it, but h chose to remain static and raised his hands to bear burnt of the spell. As expected, it was too weak to affect his body strengthening talent at E-rank combined with his Troll's breathing method and enhanced mana.

Ragnar grabbed Ralph by the collar and raised him into the sky, while he was struggling to break free.

"Why don't I show you how to use a mace properly? Hopefully this will help you make better decision in the future." Ragnar threw him in the air and the next moment bent his body while holding the mace at its hilt's end. The next moment a spring type action occured in his body as he shot with the mace, hitting Ralph right on the stomach and sending him flying out of the stage, into the wall.

Martin jumped behind him to catch his body and prevent excessive damge, but he too was pushed back by ten steps. Thankfully he had managed to catch Ralph. He was unconscious due to the last impact and the match had been decided.

"The winner is Ragnar Avalon."

The match was one-sided and anyone who saw it felt that Ragnar was playing around with Ralph before embaressing him by inflicting defeat with his own weapon. That was the biggest embarrassment Ralph must have felt in top of Ragnar's remark.

Ragnar was unfazed by the events and walked down the stairs. He was looking at his tab.

"That was a splendid performance." Ragnar heard a voice behind him. He turned to face the voice and found a girl dressed in academy clothes, wearing the alpha class badge.
