Chapter 69 - A Stubborn Daughter

El's eyes twinkled at the sight of the bewitching necklace.

'I have to get it for her.' Alec thought with sheer determination.

"The bidding starts with twenty million." The host announced.

"Twenty one million" Alec raised the bid directly by a million. Shocking everyone around him.

"I'll get it for you, love." Alec looked at El as he said his words firmly.

El's smile was slightly brighter before it faded again.

"This is going to be fun." Ricky exclaimed excitedly.

"Twenty one million, five hundred thousand." Kaitlyn raised the bid.

"I want that necklace dad." She said loud enough for Alec to hear.

"Twenty two billion." Alec was determined.

"Twenty three billion." Kyle raised the bid.

Even the other guests were interested in purchasing the exorbitant necklace.

"Twenty three million five hundred thousand"

"twenty four million"

"twenty five million." The other debutantes raised the bid.

"Thirty million." Alec said as few of the guests gasped with shock.

However the bidding continued with a fewer number of debuntes.

"Thirty five million" Kyle bid.

"Fifty million" Alec raised the bid much higher again.

The price of the necklace had doubled.

"Fifty million! Would anyone like to bid any higher?" The host asked, assuming the bidding war would end.

"Sixty Million" Kyle raised the bid again. The bidding war was still raging fiercely.

"Seventy million" Alec raised the bid.

"Seventy million for a necklace! Looks like Mr. Wilson is hell bent on getting the necklace."

"His wife must be really lucky." People gossiped.

Everyone's eyes were now fixed on humbly dressed Alec's wife El, the woman whom he treasured, her happiness was more valuable for him than his hard earned money.

While few others had their eyes fixed on Kaitlyn who was dressed in expensive designer dress along with exorbitant jewellery.

Who would be able to embellish the opulent necklace? A treasured wife or a dotted daughter? Was the question everyone had in their minds.

"Eighty million." Kyle said.

Alec's face was stern, there was no way he'd let Kyle Miller win the bid.

"Alec, stop now." El finally spoke.

"It has become way too expensive."

"Do you like it?" His expression was still stern,

"Yes but it's not worth it." She pleaded with him to stop."

It looked like Kyle Miller was winning the thrilling bid.

"Eighty million going for one, for.." the host was interrupted by Alec.

"One hundred." Everybody around was stunned and a Deafening silence surrounded them. Their eyes were fixed on Kyle Miller to see whether he would bid higher or lose the necklace.

"Ten more million" Kyle began to grow reluctant to raise higher.

"Would you like to raise higher Mr. Wilson?" The host asked.

Alec was staunch to win the necklace for his lady love. He was supposed to raise his bid,

"Stop It, Alec." El said fiercely, ignoring her he raised his paddle but before he could bid higher,

"Three hundred million" everyone heard the deep musculine voice from behind.

His voice was calm and firm.

Everyone turned to look at him, it included Alec and Mr. Miller.

Everyone turned but El, she was very well acquainted with that voice and didn't require to see him for recognition.

It was Daniel Ford.

The host was speechless for a moment.

"Is that Daniel Ford?"

"I wonder for whom he bid so high."

"Could be his wife or his daughter."

"Whoever she is, she must mean a lot to him."

Regaining his composure, the host spoke "Would anybody like to bid higher?" At this point of time the question felt redundant.

A single bid of Daniel Ford had ended the bidding war and it wasn't what anybody had expected.

Kyle Miller was silent and El held Alec's hand firmly not letting him bid higher irrespective if he intended to or not.

Alec was perplexed.

El made him look at her so that they ignored everyone and everything around.

"Three hundred million going once, Three hundred million going twice, Three hundred million going thrice. Sold to Mr Daniel Ford for three hundred million dollars."

The dotted daughter had indeed won the bid but not as everyone expected.

"Congratulations Mr. Ford. It was indeed a great time ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the rest of the evening."

The crowd slowly dispersed as everyone started to enjoy themselves.

Daniel approached El and Alec.

"Please accept this necklace as a gift from me." He offered the necklace to Michelle.

Everyone around them was stunned.

He had bid an exorbitant amount of three hundred million dollars only to offer it as a gift to Mrs. Wilson.

"I don't want it." Her indignant reply further baffled the crowd.

"El, Mr. Ford is offering you a gift, be gracious and accept it." Alec softly said.

"NO"

"I don't want your charity Mr. Ford." Her face turned red with anger.

Alec felt embarrassed and confused with her behaviour towards Daniel.

"I apologise on her behalf."

"No need to." Daniel was exceptionally calm.

"Please take it as a token of gratitude from me for being a good host to my mother."

"For all your troubles."

She smirked bitterly, "So this is how you plan to appease me for all my trouble? I don't want your cheap necklace, it's worthless."

"El stop it." Alec's voice was stern.

"I'll accept it on her behalf."

"No." He wasn't soft towards anyone but El and despised anyone who reprimanded her no matter how stubborn she was being.

"Please." His expression swiftly changed when he looked at her.

"I said I don't want it, I don't want anything from you." She fumed, her nose flared and tears welled up in her eyes. His heart ached at the sight of her tears.

"Please." He requested again.

Everyone around them was baffled to see Mr. Ford being humble in front of Mrs Wilson.

But she wasn't Mrs Wilson, or Miss Ford, at this moment she was only an angry and stubborn little girl in front of her father.

She walked out in anguish while everyone else around her stood still.
