Raven's pov
He is here. Lucan stood protectively in front of me. Only the deep rumbling sounds of his growl filled the streets, sending fear into the eyes of the hunters. Some retreated weary of the wolf before them. He was larger than an average man, his black fur coated with dust, rose on ends. He didn't move from my side.
An evil grin pulled on the hunter's face, "That must be the mate, proceed with caution. We must capture the woman and her child" he said to the rest of his gang. They spread out to his sides, stalking him. He barked, snapping his jaws at anyone who attempted to get closer.
It was because of me he couldn't move an inch. But why? Not waiting a second more I used the opportunity to run through the little gap free from most of the hunters. The child was still clutched tightly in my arm. Lucan understood and went for their heads, throwing them off the ground. Blood stained his jaws as he ripped their heads off their body, crushing their skull under his fangs.
They released their bullets in mass and I let out a loud shriek falling to the ground. Blood oozed from my leg and I couldn't move anymore. A stray bullet had gotten to me. shit.
"Get up and run away" I shouted to the little one. She got on her feet looking between the quiet streets and me crawling on the ground in pain.
She was a little hesitant to go away on her own. Her cheeks were red and her eyes were puffy from tears. Behind us, you could hear the agonising scream of the hunters being attacked by the alpha. We had to leave.
A man appeared out of nowhere grabbing the girl's arm tightly, she yelped, tugging away from him.
"I've got you now and you can't go anywhere" he grinned, chuckling at us.
The little girl kept screaming with his arm gripping tightly around her wrist. In a split second, I was filled with defeat when suddenly he was knocked to the ground by a wolf. Then torn apart to pieces. She ran into my arms shaking with fear. I hugged her tightly, seeing more wolves appear from all around. A sigh of relief escaped my lips when I saw the guards trooping in one by one attacking any hunter they saw still standing.
A shadow came over me picking me up from the floor. I shook only to see Lucan, in his human form. Behind him most of the hunters had been dealt with.
"Follow me closely" he ordered the little girl before he broke off into a run, away from the hunters.
He took us to a small house which had been abandoned in disarray. After dropping me calmly on the sofa he went straight to look at my wounds.
"I'm sure it will heal in a minute," I joked, earning a glare from him. I guess this was a bad time to make a joke then. I didn't know how to properly respond since he just saved my life.
The emotions swirled in my gut making me nervous next to him. He saved me. The last time we saw him, he had his dark long hair down to his shoulder now they were tied up. I could see his full lashes, then he looked at me. His silver eyes, "Thank you for saving me" I spoke in a small voice.
Lucan's pov
He knelt with conflicted thoughts, his heart hadn't stopped racing since he felt the pain stab through his body when she got shot. She was injured. He held her little foot in his arm massaging his arms around it. Feeling a little static energy coursed through him and ignited something that he had been trying to bury deep in me. Then he heard her voice so soft the massive headache that troubled him seemed to have vanished in an instant. It was all the cause of the mate bond. He told himself.
"I thought the last time I told you if we met I would kill you," he said in a callous tone. He noticed her smile faltered and she frowned at me.
"It seems you were the one who broke that on your own. I didn't ask to be saved" he retreated away from her. He best to keep his distance. She stood up by herself.
"Where do you think you are going?" I growled seeing as she was limping on her injured foot. She ignored me going straight for the door.
"Anywhere that doesn't have you in it" she hissed at me. He blocked her, giving her a stern look,
"Go back and sit down,'' he ordered. There was a little silence while he waited for her to comply and go sit down. Instead, she flipped her middle finger at him going around him to the door. A little stunned by her action, he picked her up bridal style, not listening to her screams in his arms.
"Let me go you fucking bastard. I swear to god…" her constant flailing around made them trip over but he caught himself landing on my back thanks to his reflex. She sat on his lap, her hair in a crazy mess as she stared daggers into his face.
The door burst open and he pulled her in close to his chest. Ready to attack anything that walked in through the door. Noticing it was just some of the guards and his aide. Nich narrowed his eyes between both of us. She sat on his lap with his hands wrapped around her waist. She jumped off him.
"We were able to wipe out most of them and everyone was taken to the shelter" nich reported deciding to ignore what he witnessed before him.
She got up away from me, arranging herself properly. A tint of red plastered on her face as she looked away.
With everything in order they made their way out of the house. She walked ahead with the child sticking close to her.
There had been a struggle on who would hold onto her for support since he detested the thought of another man holding onto her hand and she was still annoyed with him. Thus she walked alone.
Nich walked close to the alpha. " I didn't expect it to escalate that soon." He whispered to the alpha.
"I don't want to hear another word from your mouth," he warned.
Lucan halted, the sudden change in the air. It made him cautious, a swift arrow to his head but he caught it mid-air.
"We are being attacked." He announced loudly putting everyone on alert. Then he said to nich, "Just how many of them crossed the entrance"
They rushed to attack the hunters that appeared from different corners. Shooting bullets and arrows at the guards. Raven crouched on the ground. When Lucan approached her. Her foot was swollen due to silver poisoning. It needed to be treated.
The leader of the hunters stepped forward with a wicked grin on his lips. He wasn't going to leave until the alpha was dead and he captured as many wolves to kill before the village. No one had to fear the damned creatures of the night.
He raised his machete into the air.
"Kill every last one of them" he raged out to the hunters. It was lucky that he had sent one person back to alert more hunters of their discovery. Most of his men that came were gone but now the rest of them were here he could smell the bloody stench of victory.
Lucan had someone carry both Raven and the child on their back to the safe house. He ran changing midair onto an unsuspecting hunter. The massacre continued.
