Chapter 18 - Learning about skills

But what if i want that" Andrew replied sarcastically, but in truth. He got the spell he wanted and now he just wants out.

"Really? You only learned the first part. I doubt you'll be able to find the second. After all, as the inventor I know all of it myself. So even if you did find the next steps to evolve the spell. You'll just end up right back here." He said, crossing his arms looking a little disappointed.

Andrew thought about his reasoning, while he could be lying to him. Andrew couldn't find a reason for him either. They only met a little while ago and knew nothing about each other. But it was uncomfortable knowing that the man in front of him was mountains stronger.

'I wonder what would happen if he actually used some of his combat spells. Andrew felt his body shudder at the thought and he looked back at Folen.

"If you put it that way i guess ill stay, is there any way i can increase my attributes while i'm here? I dont really want to be stuck here doing nothing for days on end."

"No, I'm afraid not, this is your spiritual body. Therefore anything you see here will also be spiritual and nothing physical. So they will nod be dead, but you can, however, train your skills." He said in response.

"Well, how do you get skills? I don't have any." Andrew said slowly, he was aware of the presence of skills like blacksmithing and sword techniques but he didn't know how to get them.

Folen looked at him with slight shock, bringing his ears back a little bit and tightening his crossed arms.

"How do you manage to fight other beasts or people then?" He asked, tilting his head a little.

"I use a sword duh?"

"And you've never practiced using a sword outside of fights?" He said blankly.

"No…." Andrew said slowly.

Folen looked at him dumbfounded. Before slowly rubbing his forehead with his fingers.

"Alright, guess we have to start from square one." He muttered before looking at him with a straight face.

"Skills are different from spells, they are not able to help you with external help like mana or elements. They are embedded into your mind, where they will increase your knowledge. Alchemy and blacksmithing are some of these skills, unlocking some skills and improving their level will help you evolve spells to make them stronger." He started a dialogue which went through one ear and out the other as all Andrew heard was that they embed knowledge into your mind.

That was really all Andrew needed to hear before he dozed off into his own world of imagination,

Folen sighed at his own dialogue

"What am I doing, I'm not your father." He said, shaking his head.

"Just go swing a sword until your arms fall off." He flapped his hand as he suddenly disappeared from his spot.

[ I like him]

'Yea? Well i dont' Andrew pointed his nose upwards as he got up from his seated position and opened the large wooden door.

The inside of the small hut felt more like a cozy cabin than a family home. The sofas were covered in a small layer of dust as Andrew walked around the light gray painted walls. The light brown stitched couch lay against it, a small wooden table placed in front of hit with a large pot of yellow flowers. A bookshelf to the right and a set of cards lay on top. A kitchen lay not too far ahead with tile pattern as a floor, a long rectangular island stood tall in the middle with a run down rusty sink.

Andrew took a seat on the brown stitched sofa and let out a long sigh of relief, using one of the piles of pillows as a headrest.

"Ooohhh" Andrew wowed at the new mission, he was getting rather excited with the new ways of getting stronger.

He looked around the small cabin rooms, the cabin had three bedrooms, two on the main floor and one in the basement. It was a two story house with a couple of rooms, all of which were relatively small. But Andrew was restless after learning so many different things about the new world opened up to him.

Andrew walked outside to see the endless blue grass colliding with the purple midnight sky, it seems that in this domain day and night wasn't a concept. He just walked around the small cabin and studied its surroundings. There were piles upon piles of training gear seemingly left behind by the last residents.

'I wonder how many people were here before me?' Andrew asked himself as he picked up a rusted crooked medal sword. It seems that there was a smithing table as well, But Andrew wasn't interested in blacksmithing for now. He had to focus on other aspects before indulging into something different.

He turned towards a large rack of well made swords before picking one up and giving it a couple of swings. It was smooth and a little light for his taste but he could live with it, he hoisted it over his shoulder before turning around and swinging repeatedly.

'He said if I do this something nice will happen.' He reminded himself of the words Folen had said to him not too long ago.

He repeatedly swung the sword downwards with force, causing his arms to shake a little after a while. But he ignored this and kept pushing through the awkwardness of every swing, He felt no tiredness with each swing he took, in fact even after a couple of minutes of swinging full force he felt nothing at all.

'Hey this is kind of nice, I wonder if this is how the top fighters train?' He thought of his world's elite fighters and how they seemed to be so far ahead in techniques compared to the rest of the world, evolution or not. They seemed to be the best of the best and there was no middle, was it a skill that separated them?

Andrew couldn't help but wonder as he continued to swing the longsword up and down repeatedly as he felt no tiredness at all.

-

Andrew was swinging his sword consistently, he doesn't know how long he has been doing this but he still wasn't tired. He felt his mind go numb from all of the repeating actions, up, down, up, down.

"I see you're still going at it" A familiar rang out from his left.

Andrew turned left towards the source of the voice to see Folen looking at him without any motion.

Andrew looked at the blade in his hand with resentment as he threw it down onto the ground. Turning back to the man in front of him, Andrew glared at him.

"I've been swinging that sword since you left and nothing has come from it. You said something along a skill would come from it." Andrew confronted him.

"Relax, it was a test. Of course skills aren't materialized out of thin air, Skills and spells are basically the same thing after all. One must find them or take hundreds of years to create one. Even longer to learn one since it has to be passed down. You just happened to learn one in a couple of minutes so I thought provoking you into a small test might provide some interesting results." He said with a little bit of disappointment.

"Honestly, i'm glad you didnt learn one out of thin air, that would be kind of heaven defying. " He said shaking his head as he walked over to Andrew who was clearly a little pissed off.

"Anyway, moving on. I'm going to show you the next part of the spell." He continued on as if nothing was wrong.

Andrew felt a little disappointed but that was quickly dissolved when he learned that he was now going to learn the second part of the spell.

"Would you mind checking your requirements for me first? The last guy who learned it had a different requirement than I did so I want to make sure that it's somewhat similar. You know how to find the requirements for your spells right? The ones that will allow it to do a little more stuff " Folem let out a small sigh of hope that this part wasn't too insane.
