Andrew and zoe sat there mouth agape at the news broadcast. Depicting that earth was on it's last leg; crumbling before the weight of mars. Screams and panic could be heard throughout the world as news of evacuation hit the ears of everyone.
"Oh my god" Zoe just whispered and her legs crumpled beneath her as she started to tear up.
Andrew stood there horrified at the news, his goals and his whole reason for life was thrown out the window. Forced along another path. Survival.
*bzzt*
"Will every student please report to the auditorium immediately. This is your only chance at survival."
An old creaking voice pierced through the atmosphere as if the devil whispered the key to heaven.
The panicked students ran towards the auditorium at full doors, as to get there first. Their lives were dependent on his words after all.
Andrew helped Zoe up and walked her slowly towards the auditorium. Everything was being slammed at them without a break between each news to help them understand. It started with happy uproar as they were able to contact outer life.
Then to be shattered with the news of their impending death.
Andrew looked around the crowded room of faces, all covered in terror of the future. An old man stood in front of them with a blank face, devoid of any emotion.
"Everyone at grimwolf will be given permission from the government to be transported over to the other world. A small plate will be distributed to verify that you will have permission to board teleportation. Do not lose this." He said with utmost seriousness as small metal plates flew across the room to be distributed to each student.
Plates were taken with shaking hands with glee and sorrow. They got to live, but what about everyone else outside of themselves.
"Do not worry about your family too much. Development of a way to generate energy for personal teleportation is being made. However I can not guarantee that it will be made. Or even work properly." He said with a small nod
"I expect everyone to be here tomorrow at 9 AM flat, while our world no longer rotates, there's does. Making our landing point a moving target. Tomorrow is the only day where we have a guarantee that we will land in a civilized area. I will see you all tomorrow morning if you wish to live." He proceeded to rush back off the stage as if his back was on fire.
Andrew stayed in his seat in thought of the situation and watched as people fled out once more to probably meet with their family for what could be the last time. Zoe sat next to him with a less worried expression on.
"Are you going to call your mother?" She turned to look at him with wonder.
He was thinking about calling his family to see how they were handling the situation. Dialing the number to contact his mother and watched it ring for a couple of seconds
"Andrew? How are you? Are you watching the news? Did you get a ticket? Are you safe?" Questions started to gush out of the phone like a broken dam.
"Yes mom, I'm fine, yes I have a ticket. Does anyone else in our family have one?"
"Yes, one of your sisters got one, thank god you have one. Don't worry about mommy dear, go ahead and live your life. Ill see you there when they create the thingamabob that makes it possible for personal travel."
"You mean the thing that may not happen?"
"Oh shh, they have every person in the world working on it right now. After all, no point in working on something that won't work in three years." she responded hopefully.
"Mom, who has the ticket?"
"Vee does, she got it because of her test scores. Thank you for teaching her." she responded happily.
"Alright mom, Tell evelynn to meet me at my highschool soon. I want to give her my ticket." He told mom before hanging up abruptly.
"Why would you do that? You heard them say that the probability that they will successfully make the personal transport is almost zero." Zoe panicked after hearing what Andrew told his mother.
Andrew didn't say much and smiled as he patted her head twice and began to walk back to the nurses office.
"Oi, ANSWER ME." She began to increase her volume and gripped the back of his shirt and held him in place to catch up to him.
"Well, I don't doubt that they will succeed in making the energy converter. In fact I can probably make it myself given enough time. So I'm not worried about any of that, but my sisters are twins and have done everything together. I wouldn't want to separate them and have them be warped in later in a completely random spot on an unfamiliar planet. If I could choose, I would be the one to take those odds." He said as he waddled towards the nurses building. Which was basically another hotel, but for staff.
"Besides, I'm the shit. I can do whatever I put my mind to." he added with a laugh as Zoe swatted the back of his head as he opened the door to the building.
"But still, what about your mother? Or your brother? How do you think they feel about this matter? It must be hard to pick only one." She said after thinking about it, for as long as she knew him he wasn't on to change his mind easily. So doing so will only tire her out.
"Well, that's simple. One, my mom wouldn't accept it no matter how much i try to give it to her, even if she did accept it she would give it to one of my siblings. Two, my brother, as much as I love him. Wouldn't survive a goblin, traveling to another world is a complete other issue and lastly. Evelynn is a lot stronger than Vee, who has her smarts. So they are more of a power duo? Whatever you call it." he trailed off as he opened the door to the nurse.
"I'm just getting a blood transplant, so I won't be long. But you should go and say your goodbyes, don't wait here for me." Andrew said as he entered the room.
"Alright." Zoe said meekly before looking down at the floor and the chairs around her.
Entering the white room Andrew looked around to see the nurse packing a small package of stuff for tomorrow.
"Ah, you remembered, I think I have enough stuff here for you to be alright. What is your blood type again?" The nurse said as she reorganized her stuff for the treatment.
"A+" he responded, taking a seat on one of the fluffy beds.
"Alright, this won't hurt a bit." She said as she looked down at him and started to pull out multiple bags of blood.
Andrew just payed back and looked up to the ceiling in thought
[Are you really planning on going through with your option? Nothing better for you to do?]
Andrew didn't respond and just nodded his head and he winced a little bit as a small needle pricked the top of his wrist as he felt liquid rush inside.
Andrew shivered.
"Ugh, this feels weird. I don't like this."
"Understandable, I don't like watching this either. I can't imagine having blood poured into me." The nurse said as she peeled the tape off the tube.
The treatment didn't take long at all and Andrew was out again within 20 minutes.
[why did you actually decide to stay?]
The deep voice was back again
'What do you mean by that, if you were listening you should know exactly why i chose to stay.
' Andrew thought of a snarky response.
[well, im a part of you and i could feel that you were leaving something out of the conversation there.]
'Well that doesnt matter now does it?' he thought as he looked around, it seems that Zoe had left to say her goodbyes to her family as well.
'She hasnt talked much about her family now that i think about it.' Walking out of the hotel like building he walked slowly to the gate to wait for his sister. Deciding to skip diner tonight because of the horrid news.
[well I suppose that's understandable. But maybe you should shove a loaf or two down your throat.]
"No, I'll be fine." He responded. It's almost like his system was another person now rather than a part of him. For being part of him, he was rather independent.
[well…. Maybe I am!]
'Are you?'
Andrew could physically feel the the energy of a shrug radiating out of no where as he walked along the path.
'How do you turn physical actions to emotions?' Andrew wondered as no response came as he nearly stumbled on a crack.
