A line of cars parked in front of the Kaiju towers before the car door was opened. Quinn felt like she could breathe again as she stepped out of the car.
But before she could breathe deeply she was met by a familiar face. "Well well well if it ain't miss…," said Lars only for him to shut his mouth after his cousin glared at him coldly.
"… okayyy," he whispered his voice trailing off. His cousin must be in a very terrible mood and if he didn't want to make his life difficult he might have to shut his mouth because that's what always got him into trouble.
Leif walked a few steps while buttoning his suit jacket but the person who was meant to be behind him was not following. He turned back slightly and Quinn met the eyesthat could freeze hell over.
Her steps faltered before she gathered her courage. What was there to be afraid of? If he wanted to kill her he would have done it a long time ago. Whatever Leif dished out she would happily accept it. She had already experienced the worst anyway.
"Keep up," he said his voice not as intimidating as before or maybe it was just Quinn's illusion.
The three of them entered the elevator and Lars who was really having a hard time keeping his mouth shut tugged at his tie uneasily after pressing the button to the top floor.
Leif tried to ignore it but he couldn't help it. He felt slightly irritated. He clenched his jaw trying to suppress his annoyance but in the end, he failed.
"Did you eat crayfish again?" he asked and Lars let out an unintelligible,
"Uh?" with a puzzled expression.
"I am assuming you are reacting that way because you have an allergic reaction," he said and Lars tried to stand still while apologizing,
"I am sorry."
"So did you eat something you shouldn't?" asked Leif while staring at his cousin from the corner of his eye.
Lars who had eaten a different kind of crayfish that isn't exactly crayfish but human widened his eyes and pressed the elevator button nervously. His cousin particularly hated that specific crayfish and it was forbidden so yes he was ready to run for his life.
As soon as the elevator doors opened Lars ran out pleading for mercy but Leif still smacked him upside his head before letting him go.
All this fell into Quinn's eyes and she felt like she shouldn't be here to witness such a scene. She just stood there with her back plastered to the elevator walls hoping they would forget her and she would go down by herself.
Surprisingly, this silly plan actually worked. Leif walked out of there and even forgot that she was there. As soon as the elevator doors closed a beaming smile appeared on her face.
She hurriedly pressed the ground floor button but the smile on her face stiffened when it asked for identity authentication.
"Move damnit," she mumbled while pressing the button frantically like that would change the situation.
Well, it didn't. Instead, the elevator doors opened slowly revealing a face that Quinn didn't really want to see.
She smiled nervously and said, "I got locked in," before walking past him her steps timid.
Leif stepped aside before saying, "I am starting to think you aren't taking this seriously."
Quinn opened her mouth to speak but couldn't utter a word. She just watched the tall figure walk away and pursed her lips frustratedly before following behind.
In ten or so steps they reached a luxurious restaurant with exquisite decorations but such a high-end restaurant was empty like it was reserved for Leif alone.
They reached a table over looking the window and Lars pulled up a chair before gesturing for her to sit. Quinn wasn't certain what Leif really wanted to do but she still sat down and glanced at him nervously.
Lars stepped aside and sat at the furthest table before a waiter came and opened a bottle of wine. The waiter poured a little into Leif's wine glass but when he moved to pour some in her glass Quinn blocked the rim of the wine glass with her hand.
"I am not drinking, thank you," she said and glanced at Leif but he had his head lowered obsessing over his suit jacket that seemed to have a tiny stain from the fight earlier.
He immediately stood up to remove it when Lars rushed over to help him take it off. "Get me another one," he whispered and Lars nodded his head before rushing out of the restaurant.
Leif seemed to have calmed down significantly as he sat down his once tense shoulders relaxed.
"Hungry?" he finally asked without looking at her and Quinn's brows furrowed slightly thinking Leif's cleanliness problem was quite serious. She was curious but this was after all none of her business.
"Why did you bring me here?" she asked directly and Leif finally looked at her. But instead of answering he took out a granola bar and placed it on the table before gently pushing it forward with the tips of his fingers.
"Here, have this first. It's the fruit and nut flavour," he said his expression unreadable.
Quinn saw this and her heart swelled. Why such a reaction for a granola bar? It was because each morning her lackey would bring two to her. Every day before the first class the young man would hand it to her in person as per her insistence.
Quinn raised her head and answered honestly, "I am sorry, I really don't eat these things."
Leif's unreadable expression cracked and he asked, "Really?" as he leaned back into his seat.
"I am assuming you probably did some kind of background check on me but I am afraid your information is incomplete. I never liked this. Each morning I got two and gave one to…," she said before her words abruptly stopped swallowing down her emotions.
"… and the other I gave to whoever wanted it in class. I never liked these things."
Leif who seemed calm was very agitated inside. So what was the use of him passing by the corner store every day? If he was a minute, no not even a minute but a second late she would show him an expression like he had committed the greatest sin.
He decided to deliver them before class started and place them on top of her desk but who would have thought she would come to the junior class and make trouble?
Leif would never forget that day. She appeared in between classes and stood at the back door. The entire class curiously stared at her and whispered words like 'he is dead' or 'she is going to kill him and feed his ground flesh to the pigs'.
